Shoot down the Gunners – Bednar
Saturday 28th February 2009, 11:08AM GMT.
Albion striker Roman Bednar has targeted a Hawthorns shock against Arsenal on Tuesday and admitted: “We owe our fans a show.”
Bednar reckons the Baggies must repay supporters’ faith by testing the Gunners, after letting down the Hawthorns faithful in their last home game against Newcastle.
Tony Mowbray’s side also turned in a dismal display in their next match, last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Fulham, and Bednar believes they have some making up to do.
The Czech Republic international said: “We need to put on a performance on Tuesday for both ourselves and the fans.
“We didn’t play well against Newcastle in our last match at home and the fans haven’t seen us for a while since then, so we need to show them what we can do.
“Arsenal will be a tough game because they are a good team. But our home games are really important and we need to compete with them and try to get a result.”
Bednar is eyeing a return to the starting line-up as manager Mowbray looks to replace ineligible loanee Jay Simpson.
Premier League rules prevent Simpson from figuring against the Gunners – who lent him to Albion.
That leaves a likely vacancy alongside Marc-Antoine Fortune in attack and Bednar is keen to fill it.
He said: “I hope I get picked but you never know. The last time we played 4-4-2 at home the gaffer went with James Morrison up front, so I’m not taking anything for granted.
“I am disappointed I haven’t played more lately.”

This from a player who thinks he’s better than Ronaldo, never mind trying to beat them, just try to keep a clean sheet first.
