Duo set to miss Argyle clash

Friday 27th February 2009, 11:45AM GMT.

BURNLEY V WOLVES 21 GD 14Matt Jarvis is a major doubt for Wolves while Nigel Quashie has been ruled out of the clash with Plymouth.

Winger Jarvis has an infected blister in his foot from Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Cardiff, while midfielder Quashie is definitely out with a chest infection.

Stephen Ward, who limped off towards the end of the game, has recovered from the slight groin strain he sustained, while one of his would-be replacements Matt Hill has recovered from a slight knock on the knee, picked up in the reserves’ 4-3 win at Derby on Tuesday.

Boss Mick McCarthy said: “Matt has a blister which had a reaction and he has got an infection so he is certainly a doubt.

“Nigel had no chance. He is poorly. It developed since Sunday and the doctor was checking him out in the physio’s room at the game.”

Kyel Reid, who replaced Jarvis against the Bluebirds, is expected to replace Jarvis if the 22-year-old isn’t fit.

McCarthy confirmed Dave Edwards will retain his place in central midfield after his man-of-the-match display against Cardiff.

Jarvis would be missed – as for Quashie well nuff said

Hope Kites gets his mind back on the job in hand and has a great last 12 games and as for SEB not celebrating when he scores against Plymouth – dont worry, we promise to do it for you!

Cov_wolf if we play that team we’ll get beaten on Saturday. Stearman has been awful recently, cost us at least five goals since Christmas, and Craddock played really well last Sunday. And where’s Ward?? Friend isn’t ready for a match as big as this. Plus who’s going to win the ball in midfield?! Good job you’re not a manager. Here’s the team that’ll win us the game:
Hennessey; Foley, Craddock, Berra, Ward; Kightly, Henry, Jones, Reid; Keogh, Ebanks-Blake.
Henry hasn’t played well recently but at least he’s a ball winner. If Jones is fit, just give the ball to him.

I do agree Henry needs to be dropped or maybe play him, hope he gets 4 more bookings and gets a 2 match suspension!

Burnley, wade elliot conceded cross 1st goal
    Cardiff, paul parry conceded cross

as for kightly bein captain, when he was given the armband earlier on, he played with his heart on his sleave and was brilliant. berra for captain, yes he has played in europe and internationals, but he has been at the club 5 mins, and reiterated he was rlieved of his captaincy from hearts when he moved to here, so no not really.
craddock had a good game at cardiff, and gives you the expereince, so it is a tough call between him and stearman

We all now know that because McCarthy has confirmed that Edwards will play, then Jones won’t. There is no way he will drop Henry. I don’t want to get on an individual players back but Henry has been poor for numerous games now, yet Mick persists with him. I’m not saying he’s a bad player but he’s not performing and consequently should be rested/dropped. The last time we won a game was the last time Dave Jones played. His reward was to be dropped and not even on the bench. Allegedly he was injured but there was no mention of this at the time. I suspect Jones isn’t one of McCarthy’s ‘yes’ men and has now found himself frozen out, irrespective of his (or Henry’s) performances.

Of course this is only my opinion and I could be completely wrong – time will tell but I do think his exclusion is to the detriment of the team.

and Friend is growing all the time when i have seen him for the reserves (even go as far to say he has sometimes looked better LW than LB).
When they have played together they worked well.

If ward is dropped it might well be to avoid aggravating that injury and also the final yellow before suspension hanging over his head.

Prediction: In our current form, any sort of win will do!

PS With Ikeme (Unknown back problem could be out for weeks), Murray (out until next season) and only untested at this level Higgs available. I seriously think we should try and get someone like Ben Foster on loan to put pressure on Hennessey, who has been less than convincing recently!

Please can someone tell the M&Ms (Mick and his Merry Men)that there is no law to say you have to wait ’til 60 minutes are on the clock before you make a substitution. If it ain’t working – Change it, before it’s too late! That Mourinho guy has made all three subs within twenty minutes before. Of course someone may have got injured afterwards, but his theory was that the players he took off were playing crap anyway, so he would be better off with ten in such an event anyway – Fair Point. I think the rest got the messasge that they had 25 minutes left to do something before facing Jose in the changing rooms! Thinking outside the box? – We don’t think outside the packet!!

10, cov_wolf. Yes I attend away games, I was at Coventry and it was a combination of bad defending from Berra, Ward and Hennessey. As for the Cardiff goal, that was ridiculously unlucky. Absolutely no way is Friend ready for this promotion run-in. Even the likes of Kightly and Hennessey are starting to look nervous, let alone a 21-year-old from Exeter. As bad as Henry has been, you need a tackling midfield player in any team, and with Quashie injured he has to play. Personally I don’t think Edwards does enough going forward to deserve a place at the moment – Jones is the best passer in the squad and can release Reid and Kightly.

No.26 – Yes I have seen Jones put a tackle in on many occasions. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that he’s the answer to all our problems be he is better than anything else we have in that position. He can take free kicks and is a decent passer of the ball so can utilise our 2 wingers to better effect. It’s no coincidence that when he has been in the side we have won more games and scored more goals.

I accept that he doesn’t tackle as much as Henry but how many times lately has Henry won the ball then proceeded to give it away immediately?

I’m not sure how the Edwards / Jones combination would pan out – it could mean that we have fewer attacks to break up because we’ll have more of the ball……but either way could it be any worse than Quashie / Henry?

I was in my third year as manager of Doncaster Rovers having been fired from my first job at Fulham. My Fulham team were only relegated on the last day of the season, on goal difference, so I thought I deserved a chance at shuffling the pack and taking them straight back up, but the fans had seen enough and the board buckled under their pressure.
I won the First Division title in my first season at Doncaster, then went up in the play offs. We were losing one nil to Manchester United on the last day of the season with a Champions League spot up for grabs. With ten minutes left I throw Pavel Nedved on and we stun em’ with two goals in injury time. Europe here we come.
