Believe we are going up – McCarthy
Friday 27th February 2009, 10:38AM GMT.
Mick McCarthy has ordered the Molineux masses to embrace Wolves’ promotion chances tomorrow after telling them: “Believe we’re going up.”
The Wolves boss is concerned that anxiety in the stands could affect his Championship leaders and has implored fans at Molineux for the game against Plymouth to create an “electric” atmosphere – and believe the team is going up.
McCarthy said: “We’re still in the best position and every single punter at every single game would swop for our position.
“I’m just saying to everyone – players and fans – let’s be positive about it.
“Let’s be on the front foot, everybody. Let’s have the attitude of we’re going to do it, we’re going to get promoted, we’re not worrying about what’s going to happen because it affects everybody.
“There should be an electric atmosphere at Molineux tomorrow – a real buzz – we should all be flying every game.
“The players deserve it for what they’ve done, but no one’s going to give it them – they’ve got to earn it.”
McCarthy has happily trampled over the pre-season ‘P’ word ban imposed by the hierarchy, to bullishly talk up his side’s chances in the last week by declaring Wolves can win the title.
He continues to speak confidently of their chances.
He said: “We’ve got 12 games to go and if I didn’t talk about it now, I’m going to be off my head!
“We’ve been the best team all season, but have been pure rubbish for two months in terms of results and yet we’re still top.
“I was being asked about it (promotion) at the start of the season when there was still nine or 10 months to go. We’re top so why would I now say we want to finish in the play-offs?
“We’re in the business of trying to trying to get promoted and are in the best position to get promoted.”
McCarthy believes Wolves are showing signs of returning to their best with Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Cardiff.
He said: “We’re in the position to grab the opportunity, and, having had a real tough time, the players came out of it on Sunday with a really good performance.”

Still think your body language at the games is negative.
I’ve been believing for an eternity but having been let down so many times not until it’s in the bag will i be a true believer.
But i will always support Wolves do or die.

I agree with mick , i have tooooooo many moaners sitting by me especially the bloke behind me lets get behind the team and get promotion. UP THE WOLVES.

comments 1&2…….I just hope your not going to the game on Saturday because its people like you who build a negative atmosphere around the club. Surely you must realise that your not helping in the slightest.
Were top of the league and against Plymouth so for once actually get behind the boys. You neve know it might just work
Report abuse
get behind mick & the lads, were top of the league ffs!!!!
1 & 2 stay away saturday in fact go & support man utd we dont need supporters like you.
* 1 and 3 i honestly don’t know why you bother. I have never come across another team where there are people screaming to have the manager sacked whilst top of the league. i’d rather have 15,000-18,000 genuine fans who believe they can raise the team than 22,000-24,000 who are going to moan. no wonder why the rest of the country calls a bunch of fickle idiots
I agree with 5 – you never know, it might just work!! otherwise, there’s no point in getting up in the morning.. you might be disappointed. stand up and be part of it.

Talk is cheap!!!
Do the talking on the pitch!
Nothing else matters…..if the team performs the supporters get behind the team, if Wolves play well and lose the supporters get behind the team – example Wolves v southampton. Wolves lost at home and still got applauded off the pitch.
All of this is immaterial, perform o the pitch and the support will always be there. Us fans will be there long after MM and this team of his have gone!
Up the Wolves

On the slim chance that you’re not a Tesco (in which case, toddle off and stir something else) – where exactly were you hoping to be in the League at this stage of the season ?
And if Mick should be sacked, kindly tell us which Manager in the Championship should keep his job – and why ?

All the let-downs and disappointments over the years. Different players, managers, owners – what’s the common factor throughout?
It doesn’t take a sports psychologist to understand the enormously positive effect encouragement has and the even bigger negative effect constant criticism has.
Get behind the team and get behind each other!

BUSINESS WOLF Spot on m8 if for once they all whent and supported THE CLUB they could find that they enjoyrd themselves and it will rub off onto the pitch.

this time last year we were 8th with kevin kyle and graham stack in our squad. Being top with the second youngest side in the division and no parachute payments is great! when we get there I would like to see us add:
Larsson
Carsley
De Santos (spurs)
Huddlestone (spurs)
Joe Hart (man city)

Once again moans and groans from negative divs! Your sort are not required within 5 miles of the ground.
We will get about 7 points from the next 3 games to put us that nearer the Premiership. Blues have to play Sheff Utd on Sunday and the best that they can hope for is a point.
UP THE WOLVES!
i do believe we might just get there, but does mm really believe because the way he spouts his rubbish at the loyal fans, can anyone believe the muppet.
If we dont beat a poor plymouth side then forget promotion. But I think we will give them a tonking. 6-0!
come on people this is one of the best wolves teams we have had for a long time and mm aint done that bad considering just wave to the baggies as the pass going the other way rhyl wolves
Report abuse
Quit talking about promotion before the end of the season, Mick, and just focus on the next game. All we ever need to do is aim to win our next game. Too much talk about promotion only serves to motivate the opposition even more, as they will think we are arrogant and will want to ram it down our throats.

7 Business Wolf.
Where can you see that i’ve asked for the sacking of the manager. maybe your inability to understand is the same when watching the game, that is if you go at all. As for getting behind the boys i’ve been getting behind the boys since the early 70′s. seen it all and supported the boys throughout everything, AND ALWAYS WILL DO OR DIE.
So get your facts right and read the article properly before you criticise.
13 Brett.
How about encouragement, how aboout communication, how about just being plain excited at the play that’s going on.
talking to the players throughout the game is being positive, standing there for the majority of the game with hands in pockets is negative.
yes i do expect the manager to kick the ball, swing his arms get excited at various plays and also dissapointed at negative plays, but most of all constant encouragement throughout the game is VITAL.
Maybe your to blind to see that his nervousness in his body language is plainly evident.

dross shut the hell up mm is a great manager and has done well for the club so shut the hell up mm has signed and develepd one of the best teams we have had for years! if you dont support the manager dont bother turning up tomorrow go to the game and give support to the WHOLE club you idiot! call your self a fan! ye 1 win in 10 is not ideal but would you sack alex fergson from man u if he had a slump no you wouldnt you fool shut up and sit down you idiot!

Please, everyone, get behind the team. Look at the facts – running away with the league up until December and then relegation form from then until the end of February. All this time while Blues & Reading could both have caught & gone above us – yet we are still top of the table.
Start believing – EVERYTHING is going our way and will continue to do so against Plymouth.

29 Agree wholeheartedly we must start winning games before we start crowing and lets start with a win against Plynouth.
MM should shut his trap about promotion till its mathematically certain.

MM looked very annoyed in his interview on Sky; We hoofed the ball up to AK and SEB and when we get a big target man on – we play the ball on the ground?
40/50 secs and then we conceed??? Have we got any clue how to defend???
The fans were right BEHIND the team throughout the game – and booed when the final whistle went – It would come as no surprise that the booing gets highlighted as usual
NB* Arsenal fans booed their team against Fulham – and they got a draw – BUT I would bet that Arsenal – Wenger or their players wont be in the press feeling sorry for themselves and having a pop at thier own fans?
Maybe MM, staff, JM and players should be looking at that and realising that other clubs get booed for less (small minority) and other clubs dont resort to “tit for tat” knee jerk responses
NB* MM, JM, staff and players STOP hiding behind your own failings and focus on doing your jobs
Believe it or not – Wolves are NOT the only club that has a small element of boo boys
The best way to shut up these people is to do it on the pitch NOT by pointless repetitive “shots in the local rag”
Players putting in a “shift” isnt the answer either – Better tactics – leadership and organisation is the key
NB* All us fans can do is back the team – NOW its totally up to MM staff and players to sort themselves out – MM try being a man for once and stop your constant moaning back at the small minority of fans
Plymouth took 3 points off us yesterday – Yes Plymouth not Man U – and our lot couldnt fight their way out of a paper bag!
The games are running out fast!
It is down to the players, staff and manager to do their bit and using the fans as an excuse is way beyond a joke!
Well MM, in the cold light of day what do you think now?
Your latest comment is we were Hopeless
Your team – your tactics – your results
It is you MM that is not good enough

Mick havent a clue. But please, persist with these dire players maybe something will change, or perhaps no one in the top half will win another game…
