Attacked pair stay in hospital
Friday 27th February 2009, 2:15PM GMT.
Two people today remained in Sandwell Hospital undergoing treatment for stab wounds after a bungled robbery.
A boy aged 15 and a 34-year-old man are recovering well and expected to be released from the hospital in the next couple of days, according to police. A 36-year-old man, believed to be from West Bromwich and named locally as Dean Skidmore, died as a result of his wounds. He is thought to be the father of the teenager.
A Greek lorry driver who alleged he was the victim of an attempted robbery in North Warwickshire is being held on suspicion of murder. Police were alerted to the injured 41-year-old driver, parked in his truck, on the Station Road Industrial Estate in Coleshill, Warwickshire, yesterday.
About 10 minutes later, West Midlands Ambulance Service received a report that another man was bleeding badly in a car on the northbound carriageway of the M6 motorway, which led to the sliproad of junction seven for Great Barr being closed off for most of the morning.
Despite the emergency call-out, the car, in fact containing three injured men, was driven directly to Birmingham’s Sandwell Hospital.
Warwickshire Police said they were working with West Midlands Police to investigate both incidents. Detective Chief Inspector Adrian McGee, of Warwickshire Police, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are still gathering information to establish what has happened.
“We are appealing to anyone who has any information from any of the locations to contact the major investigation unit at Warwickshire Police.”
The lorry driver, whose first language is not English, indicated that he was attacked in the early hours of the morning and that a disturbance had taken place at the scene, said police. He was not seriously hurt.
Warwickshire Police spokeswoman Kate Turner said: “The two men are still in hospital. Their injuries are serious but not life threatening.”
