Ikeme plagued by back troubles
Thursday 26th February 2009, 11:38AM GMT.
Wolves goalkeeper Carl Ikeme admits he doesn’t know when he’ll play again as he continues to suffer back problems.
The 22-year-old has been feeling sharp pains in his lower back, after kicking the ball during the 3-1 defeat to Preston on January 10.
But the shot stopper, who is confined to rest at the moment, admits the problem is nowhere nearer being solved.
He said: “It’s still bothering me and I can’t really put a timescale on it, but I still think it’s going to be a few weeks.
“I’ve had three or four scans on it – a few problems have shown up and I need to rest. They (the physios) are still trying to find out exactly what’s wrong.
“It’s my lower back – around my spine – but it’s still hurting.”
Ikeme insists he has to take things on a daily basis at the moment.
He said: “We’ll probably rest again and try it again in a couple of weeks, or maybe rest again and have it re-scanned. Then hopefully the hot spots we’re talking about will have settled down.
“But I’ve got to wait until the scans are clear and the symptoms completely go before I start training again.
“It’s a weird one – if you break your leg, you know you’ll be out for x-amount of time. But with this injury, it’s a case of how long’s a piece of string.”

In think we could do with Ikeme back quick, to be honest when he was in the team he was looking more solid than Hennessy has recently, hopefully he will be back soon and provide some stiff competetion for Wayne

Sad and frustrating, Ikeme.
I think they should try som alternative treatment?
Acupuncture or maybe a barefooted lady walking over his back. If nothing else it would cheer him up a bit ;.)

Its the curse of the molineux goalkeepers mate!!! thats what it is. Just ask Matt Murray.
anyway hope the injury clears up soon and COME ON THE WOLVES !!!
shame! seems like some players are cursed at the wolves, murray, ikeme, lescott geoff thomas tony daily all played regluar before or after they played for wolves, wonder why?
Great!….Just what we need another “sicknote” keeper!!
Unlucky Carl.

If he’d have been playing we would’nt have dropped so many point over recent weeks. He commands his box, just like Matt Murray except Ikeme can kick a ball. Get him back quick for the final few games.

All the best Carl… We need the 2nd best keepr in the Championship back in the squad ASAP !!!
COME ON YOU WOLVES!

Matt Murray II
What is it with wolves keepers. Not had a fit one since Mick Stowell.

It’s a pity as I think Hennessey’s confidence is shot and Ikeme’s presence off the line is similar to Murray.
Get yourself ready for next season in the Premiership, is my message!
UP THE WOLVES!

take your time come back better than before but not to long that welsh flapper looks like he wants to chuck it away if he could hold on to it for long enough.

I sympathise with Ikeme, who is a good prospect, but better than Hennessey? WAKE UP!! Hennessey is streets better than Ikeme. Lay off Wayne – the lad is quality. Yes, he needs to command his area better and come and collect a few more balls in to the box, but remember he is a young lad learning his trade, not the finished article yet. However, still a great keeper and easily our (and the division’s) best.

Carl, I said this some time ago and say it again.
Forget these scans and physios. Go to the experts. The Chiropractic Clinic at 84 Tettenhall Road.
I had a major lower back problem years ago. The pain was excrutiating and there were times I was unable to stand up.
I tried all sorts without success and finally went there on recommendation.
They sorted it out. I am now fully mobile and pain free.
GET YOURSELF DOWN THERE QUICK

No. 13 We’ll give you that one…..Hopefully we will be going up and you will be going back down!!

15) You can’t have been to too many this season as he is nowhere near the level of last season and Ikeme would definitely saved us a few times over the last dozen games.
Has the transfer talk gone to his head. I reckon a goalie like Kasper Schmeicel would far outperform him on current form.
Hennessey and Henry… the biggest liabilities!

no17;;
Tont went there with his bad back because it was local ,they found he had a big knot in his bracers digging in his back.

Id rather have hennessey in goal, did you lot not see Ikeme in the preston game?? he was lost!!!

Although its frustrating to see 2 of our 3 keepers injured…
… I have to say Tony Daley and the phisio’s need a pat on the back as we’ve been mainly injury free all season.
we have decent back room staff, but miss

Chris Evans Youth Coach.

Comment 5 , you complete half wit !! The lad is having back spasms, believe me, they hurt!! you and your sort of commenters hell bent on slagging off all to do with wolves really do my head in. I hop you never get them pal, lets see who is sicknote then. you pillock !!

Agree with Fraze 22) he did take his chance when he got it, we looked more solid when Ikeme was in goal, defence looked much more solid on Sunday too, hate seeing us concede goals from set pieces but least Berra held his hands up to it, was a way better performance and i’m glad Keogh had a good game, even so he still gets slated from so called supporters who don’t know who to point the finger at when we don’t win so they just choose AK, get behind the lads, if you haven’t noticed slagging a player off doesn’t get him kicked out the team so get behind em! 3-1 on saturday against plymouth my prediction, UTW!

Why are there no comment boxes with the two most recent stories?
Just who exactly will be the rabbit on Saturday ? ? ?

21 – If you read the report again, it looks like he was struggling with injury during the Preston game.
I think anyone who watches Wolves often will agree Ikeme is much more solid than Hennessey this season. Hennessey was a joke in the Reading away game. If he had left his line 30 secs before the Collins OG, and caught a high ball lobbed in, it would never have happened.
In fact its not just our fans that see it, I was sat with the Reading fans and they were laughing their socks of at his stop/start approach to goalkeeping. The guy had zero confidence and can’t work out when to stay on his line and when to come and collect the ball. I have lost count of how many goals he has cost us this season. He certainly played a big part in losing 6 points to Reading.
If Ikeme was fit he would be in the team, end of.

MM has woken up to our situation, the only way to ensure other clubs dont gatecrash the top 3 is to win games !he now seems to realise that playing clubs in the bottom third of the table at the end of the season is not a good thing to do.
I hope we go up, and I also hope that our previous tactics, team selections, favourites etc… dont come back and haunt us !
MM you have had a fair crack this year !

31) Totally agree mate. On what I have seen this season, Murray would be our best keeper but is never fit, Ikeme definitely second and Wayne would be third choice.
We would be lucky to get a million for him based on current form. It may be time to give Higgs a run out.
A goalkeeper lacking confidence is a definite weak link. Likewise a holding midfielder that does not tackle.
COME ON WOLVES DO NOT LET THIS SEASON GO TO WASTE. I BELIEVE WE WILL DO THIS BASED ON OUR CHALLENGERS SIMILAR INEPT PERFORMANCES!

He’s actually got a small fracture to a bone in the base of his back felt it before the PNE game and played in pain through game. Was told 6 weeks ,2 weeks ago he’s just come back of holiday(Cuba). That’s all ive got for now will ring his dad for an update,ok?
We are Wolves.

Lol Terry, I think that’s the whole point most people are trying to make.. He lets in less goals .. considering Wolves have scored more goals this season than any other team in the country I don’t think it’s top or bottom ends we need worry that much about, just the middle bit :D Then again West Brom may aswell not even have a keeper the way teams such as Fulham and Newcastle, not to mention Man u etc etc etc are blasting em in the back of yer net.. ‘Gewin down the mowbury way’ boing boing goallll Fulham
Report abuse
I think what MM was trying to say regarding that rabbit is that Wolves is the greyhound chasing for ‘fun’ and Plymouth are the Rabbit fighting for its ‘life’ at the bottom end of the table.. So basically insinuating it will be no easy ride or guaranteed win cos’ they will put up a fight.. Which we knew anyway. I actually think the ‘rabbit’ concept could resemble either team.
No wonder hennessey has no confidence when you all jump in his back.fact, if at work all people do is be negati e about you in the work place, you would have a lack of confidence. Get behind the mad instead of crushing his confidence.

Sorry I meant lad not mad, I’ll save that one for mick

Well said 25 ) Nige, but you’re technically incorrect. That comment by 5)wolwan79 about sicknote goalie. Your ‘half wit’ description is far to good for him, almost makes the fool sound intelligent.

11-The Welsh flapper wants Cardiff and Swansea to go up, so he let in 2 on sunday and is trying evrything he can to make us fail. Ikeme is the next Murray me thinks, quality. But injury prone and cursed

34 I have womdered for some weeks now, whether Carl’s injury was more serious than is shown on the clubs website.
I have also wondered whether the problem started in the Sheffield United away game and the ‘tackle’ by Sharp ? Carl certainly didn’t seem to happy with him at the time.
