Zuiverloon eyes Baggies upsets

Tuesday 24th February 2009, 12:17PM GMT.

zuiverloon.jpgAlbion defender Gianni Zuiverloon insists the Baggies can pull off shock wins to aid their survival fight – starting at Everton on Saturday.

The young Dutchman has demanded ‘no more excuses’ as Tony Mowbray’s side look to claw their way off the foot of the table.

Zuiverloon insists Albion can pick up some surprise results, to go with the home fixtures they have targeted as ‘must-win’ affairs.

He said: “We need to start winning. It doesn’t matter how. We just need the points. We need to try to win all our home games and some away games too.

“We feel we can cause an upset at Everton. We have enough quality to win some games against teams people wouldn’t expect us to beat.

“We have to focus on away points too, but it needs belief from everyone.”

The Baggies take on the Toffees on Saturday in the first of three remaining clashes, with the Premier League’s top-six clubs with Arsenal and Liverpool still to visit The Hawthorns.

But the team must pick themselves up after the dismal defeat at Fulham, that followed a week’s training camp in Spain.

Zuiverloon added: “We trained hard in Marbella, so we know Sunday’s performance wasn’t acceptable. We lost to a better team. They had better chances. We had a couple too, but we lost.

“But if you don’t believe you shouldn’t be playing football. We still have a chance and we know we can do it.”

I bet the Toffees are suckers (get it?) for a side rooted at the bottom of the league.
I believe the Albion will finally gel as a team and go on to beat Everton, Arsenal and Liverpool comprehensively with never-say-die defending, intelligent midfield play and sparkling, attacking football.
I also believe in Father Christmas!

I’d like to enter this page by stating that I anm not one of these boo boys following on from some scathing attacks on Jarrods blog.
You will clearly see me stating how TM would have given more effort than any of the tarts on the field on Sunday, I have to say though I am hardly even paying attention to these rally cries, Keily has a psychology degree why don;t we eployee him to do a psych analysis of our players.
Just PLEASE PLEASE put up the effort boys. I’m growing sick of it and I fear losing TM.

It’s about time the players were banned from spouting this drivel, every week after we lose. We wan’t action not words! What a kick in the teeth to supporters, many of whom have lost or are about to lose their jobs, to turn up from a jolly and put in such a gutless performance.

No 8 what do you expext the players to say? – How about ‘We can’t do it’ ‘We will get beaten’ then what would the fans think?

We need to stay positive – yes it was poor on Sunday but we can still do it.

Dear StourB. I think you are on the same stuff they smoke in those cafes!
Dear Gianni. We the fans want you to win any way you can, BUT your boss will only let you play and lose the supposed total football way which translates for our team as NOT closing down opposition players when they have the ball. Passing the ball sideways for ever until we just maybe reach the edge of the opposition penalty area and then stop with players getting nosebleeds at having reached so far up the pitch. Give ball away because of nosebleed and not knowing what to do next. Opposition breaks and scores a goal within 10 seconds!
Mowbray comes on TV after the game and tells everyone that its not proper football to score on the break and the opposition is wrong to play that way. Albion have lost 4-0
If you win at Everton I will Honestly donate 50.00 pounds to charity!!
I, like others have said before – don’t talk about it – DO IT!!!!!!!!!

In one of the Sunday papers, Mowbray was having a go at the pundits on Match of the Day. If anyone watched MOTD2 with Lee Dixon, anyone will know that what he said was 100% true. Not one baggie player within 5/6 yards of the opposition whenever they had the ball. No one closed them down and they were free to pass the ball. Fans are spending their had earned cash following the baggies, thats our choice of course. But its now at the stage where you cannot see us getting anything from matches, especially if they played like they did on Sunday. 5 days in Spain, should have been 5 days at an army training camp.

We were playing NICE football and getting nothing, now we are playing 5hit and getting nothing.= disaster=relagetion. Mowbray looks to have run out of ideas, regardless of all the injuries,he only seems to want to play in this disastrous cavalier way.Great if it works but isn,t at the moment.Time for changes.

Talk is cheap!!! I don’t think i’m alone when I say I’m sick of listening to words from within the Albion camp. I don’t mind us loosing as long as we show a little backbone and actually try. After witnessing the last 2 performances though I’m worried. Joke defending, comedy goalkeeping, lightweight midger midfield the only plus point is we have 2 useful strikers. Anyway why doesn’t own midfield tackle?

been going up the albion for 36years and the performance on sunday was 1 of the worst i have ever seen.you can’t blame T.M for the players not showing any bottle, thats down to themselves.they should be ashamed and discusted with themselves,Fortune besides.if they get T.M the sack they can shove my season ticket where the sun does’nt shine.now Zuvvi and the other so-called premiership players at our beloved club, shut your gobs and do your talking on the pitch.because if you think other premier clubs will be waiting in the wings to sign you if we go down your wrong.now grow a pair and start playing football instead of walking round the pitch like a bunch of fairies.
