Coseley’s Richard Ghent has waited months to get fight number two under his belt – now he wants five more for the year.

The light-welterweight has been left to kick his heels since overcoming Kristian Laight in his pro debut on November 9, now his next fight will finally happen at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Friday night.

Test number two should have been over and done with before the first month was out, as part of the planned show at Dudley’s ‘the Venue’ which was scrapped just days in advance.

Ghent missed his 21st birthday to train for that show, but now he insists the disappointment is over.

He said: “It’s been a nightmare since my first fight, to be honest. I trained very hard for the show in Dudley, missed my birthday celebrations and everything, so for it not to happen days before was a real choker. I wasn’t the only one though, every fighter on the show suffered the same.

“But that’s done now and I just want to concentrate on my second fight.”

The young fighter has big plans for the new year, with five bouts planned for 2009 after his Civic test.

Thats two more than his good friend and fellow Coseley hope Jamie Ball managed last year.

Ghent said: “I am looking to get six bouts under my belt this year. I know that is a fair amount for a new fighter, but I want to be nice and busy this year. I feel fit enough to do it, so I have no qualms about it at all.

“To keep my fitness levels up, I have just brought in a nutritionist called Cain Leathem – I am leaving nothing to chance.”

When his Civic battle is done and dusted, Ghent will join up with Ball for training at Anthony Farnell’s gym in Manchester, where World Amateur Lightweight Champion and the pair’s childhood friend Frankie Gavin is training for his professional debut.

Ghent said: “Jamie spoke very highly of his experience there and Anthony has been in touch with a view to me coming down to train. I have known Frankie for years and he is a good mate, so would look forward to sparring with him.

“But I am totally focussed on this fight – when that is out of the way consider me there.”
