Baggies duo out of Everton trip
Tuesday 24th February 2009, 10:28AM GMT.
Albion have ruled Jonathan Greening and Jonas Olsson out of Saturday’s trip to Everton as the Baggies suffered a quadruple injury blow.
The key duo are also doubtful for the clash with Arsenal next Tuesday, while Youssuf Mulumbu and the unlucky Filipe Teixeira have both joined the injury list.
Mulumbu has suffered a thigh injury, while Teixeira’s stop-start season has taken another disappointing turn thanks to a fractured toe.
Greening and Olsson had both targeted the trip to Goodison Park for comebacks from their respective knee injuries, but boss Tony Mowbray is not expecting the duo to be available on Merseyside.
He said: “I don’t think Jonno and Jonas have any chance for the weekend, but they are both coming on extremely well and they are both out on the training pitch with the physios.
“The physios say there’s a chance Jonno could join in with some light stuff with the group on Thursday, but there won’t be any chance of me throwing him in.
“He probably needs to have a week’s training and see how he comes through it. I wouldn’t rule him out for Arsenal but I think it’s probably unlikely he will play.
“It’s important we don’t rush him back a few days early and then have him missing for six weeks, because then the season would be nearly over.”
Teixeira’s injury-plagued campaign has now seen him fracture a toe, although he has not been ruled out yet for the clash with the Toffees.
New loan signing Mulumbu, who was primed for a possible debut at Fulham on Sunday, has joined the casualty list.
Mowbray added: “It’s frustrating for Mulumbu, because he trained very well. You have to be very careful with thigh injuries.”

ok this is what i would do for saturday .. kiely in goal cech in for robbo pele in for either of the chuckle brothers at centre half , zuiverloon playing in the holding role in midfield to protect the back four, midfield of mesenguez morrison and koren with fortune and bednar up front , i am afraid its called damage limitation !!!

1. While I think there needs to be some changes playing Zuiverloon out of position in midlfiled won’t work. Who plays at right back then? Hoefkens is not good enough at this level! I’d drop Valero and beef up midfield with Pele alongside Koren and put Morrison wide right where he’s at his best. Also not sure why Donk was axed to bring back Barnett. Donk was doing fine, but maybe he’s injured!

Greening or no Greening, for gods sake NO MORE VALERO please Mr. Mowbray!
What on earth must Pele be thinking, he does ok at the back then gets replaced by the shower that is Barnett & Meitie!
Barnett may very well go on to make a decent career for himself in the game, i’m sure he’ll prove to be a very good centre back at Championship level but he ain’t never gonna cut it in the prem. He has the excuse of being young and inexperienced but what about Meitie and Robbo? All 3 are totally out of their depth. Back 4 for Everton – Zubby – Pele -???? -Cech…er…thats only 3!! Okay then back 3!! Who else is there? Has the tealady got any boots?

Im all for change because it aint bin workin the
best tackler we have is Robinson so move him to
midfield Cech to replace. Many dont rate Brunt but
he can deliver searching balls to our hungry
strikers, the glimpse we saw of Mensenguez looked
promising however TM will adopt his usual cautious
approach 4 5 1 dont expect suprises it must be
before the war we last won at Everton.

There are lots of things wrong with our team at present, and I think one of them is the tendency to play players out of position. We can see it in some of the postings above – Robbo and/or Loon to midfield- but it happens “in reality” on the pitch. Correct me if I’m wrong, but on Sunday it seemed we had Koren (whose best position seems to be central midfield) playing wide right, and Morrison (whose best position seems to be wide right) playing anywhere but. I know players can interchange during a game, but surely managers should pick specialist players where they can perform best. You never see goalkeepers played out of position – and they are only an extreme example of a specialist player. ToMo has a tendency to put square pegs in round holes. Whatever position our players are in , though, they need to have a game plan….and that’s another topic for discussion.

It seemed obvious from the body language of the players on Sunday that they were being asked to play in a way that they were not happy with, consequently the effort and morale spoke for itself. Mowbury has to look at himself and the coaching staff, in particular Mr Grant.
