Willenhall 1 Glapwell 4
Monday 23rd February 2009, 6:32AM GMT.
Willenhall fell to a 4-1 home defeat as Glapwell strengthened their hopes of a play.
After-off position four minutes Lee Chilton’s 20-yard effort dipped just over the bar.
The visitors took the lead after 17 minutes. A ball into the area found its way through to Aaron Shelley who turned and hit a low first time shot past Tim Clarke from six yards.
On the half hour mark Glapwell almost doubled their lead after a long range effort needed two attempts before Clarke saved.
After 32 minutes Glapwell were reduced to 10 men when Steve Kennedy was sent off for two bookable offences, one after the other. But three minutes later it was the 10 men who came close to adding to their tally.
Scott Lycett’s back pass was under-hit and was intercepted by Ian Brown who fired just wide.
Two minutes after the break substitute Ashley Kitchen went close for Glapwell when his shot from the edge of the area went just wide. On 51 minutes, Willenhall’s Naveed Arshad hit the side netting from 15 yards.
On 57 minutes Glapwell went 2-0 ahead, when Clarke was caught too far off his line and Brown was able to loop a header over him from the edge of the area.
A minute later Willenhall substitute Justin Nisbett went on a good run but his eventual shot was saved at the near post by Laurence Matthewson.
Two minutes after Glapwell went 2-0 ahead they found themselves 3-0 up – Gavin Saunders was responsible for losing the ball in midfield and a quick counter-attack saw Brown lob Clarke from 25 yards.
On 71 minutes the home side managed to pull a goal back. Some neat footwork from Rory May saw the striker create enough room to deftly slide the ball into the bottom left hand corner.
On 75 minutes a good cross by Brown was met with a firm header by Neil Grayson and this time Clarke did well to save.
Two minutes later Scott Stevenson’s cross into the area was well controlled by May. The striker was able to turn and shoot at goal but the shot was straight at the keeper.
That’s as good as things got for Willenhall as Glapwell sealed the win on 79 minutes. Some sloppy play at the back allowed theee Glapwell players to queue up for an effort on goal.
Kitchen took advantage by lashing the ball in from 12 yards.
Willenhall: Clarke, Saunders, Milligan, Kelly, Lycett, Findlay (Wills), Hawkins (Nisbett), Stevenson, May, Arshad (Edwards), Chilton.
