That blunder could be the key – Reid
Monday 23rd February 2009, 11:22AM GMT.
Kyel Reid believes Wolves’ freak equaliser against Cardiff could be the turning point that brings promotion.
Substitute Reid’s 81st-minute deflected cross was fumbled over the line by keeper Dimi Konstantopoulos for the leveller, in a game that seemed to be slipping away from Wolves.
The winger said: “I know we can do it, so hopefully we’ve turned things around now and we can kick on from here. We know what we need to do.
“The way things have been going for us, sometimes you need that bit of luck to turn it around.
“Hopefully it’s a turning point. We’re going to spend the week working hard in training and take it from there. Come the weekend, we’ll see.”
The wide man believes Wolves’ other scorer Sylvan Ebanks-Blake will be the key to the team going up, after netting his 21st Championship goal of the season.
The 22-year-old has become the first Wolves player since Dean Sturridge to hit 20 League goals in a season, while he’s only two away from matching his 23-goal haul that made him the league’s Golden Boot winner last season.
Reid said: “You need strikers like that who are going to put themselves about, work hard for the team and play with you when you’ve got the ball – and not run away.
“At the moment he’s on fire – he’s the top goalscorer in the Championship, so hopefully the chances keep coming for him and he can keep putting them away for us.”
With Reading and Blues both losing, a draw meant Wolves stretched their lead at the top and Reid was satisfied with the outcome.
He said: “The results went well for us on Saturday, so we knew we had to win, but a point is better than nothing.”

It’s all turned into a bit of a joke. Mick McCarthy needs to go and the team needs a complete overhaul.
As for Karl Henry…..

team played alot better than of late, not much of a keogh supporter but i thought he had a good game and as for this chance he was said to have skyed it was a great save.wish we had a second plan when its not going for us but with mick i dont think that will ever happen

oh Keogh what can i say dont get me on my soap box again because of him.

A good performance in the first half. The break seemed to have refreshed the players. However, you could see the confidence drain away when Cardiff took the lead. I think the atmosphere at the start of the match lifted the team and I truly believe that us supporters have a big part to play in the run in. Whatever reservations some may have about the manager or certain individuals put them aside until the end of the season. I for one think Mick has done a great job to get us where we are now. Just cast your mind back to the apathy that Glen Hoddle brought to the club. At least the dissenters can be bothered to make themselves heard again! Stick together and we can get there.

if we were still playing today we would’nt score against cardiff. pure luck was the goal and pure nothingness all of the second half.
same old body language from MM hands in pocket without a clue how to change things. but somehow we stay top and extend our lead, just shows that the rest of the teams are just as bad as us. if we go up and i would love it if we did MM needs to add dimension to our team, starting with the midfield and followed closely by two central defenders, fast and pacey. a bright spark in attack to compliment SEB would also go well.
Keep the faith i am and do mhope we don’t let ourselves down.

we absoulutley paled cardif in the first half and if it wasnt for the post and a great save from the keeper then blake would have had his 22 goals of te season and keogh his 5th, so hopefully we can capatilise on tht.
also great support yeasterday from THE ONLY STAND oh no theres also 3 others, i gotta admit when we scored we went nuts in the southbank. so bringo n plymouth and ebanks 2nd hat trick and keoghs next goal.

Lee just because someone runs around all day, and misses open goals again and again, does not make them good, if thats what you want go and watch a marathon. Som of you should really go to the games, just because MM tells you Ward and Keogh are good players, does not make them any good. They are very poor and will cost us, can you see any of them in the Prem, laughing stock.

We are not playing well but it has been a good week for us, as Blues, Reading, Preston and Bristol City have all lost.
We have enough winnable games. Blues are at Palace tomorrow, which will be tough and they are Sheff Utd on Saturday. I reckon they will be lucky to come away with 2 points. We will beat Plymouth.

He had a good game on Saturday and was only denied by a post and a great save from there keeper.
Mind you with your blinkers on you prob never saw it.
As for Karl Henry…..Got to agree….The crab mark II

Though Keogh was great on Sunday. Chased everything down and was unlucky to hit the post and then a fine save stopped a sure goal. He may not have scored but didn’t stop working for the team. Unlike Jarvis who just did not seam interested in chasing back or bothering to try and take people on 90% of the time just playing back to Ward.
Lets just hope the luck we got so Sunday kicks us off to another run.
Come on the Wolves!!

Sunday was a turning point and we shall go on to win the league..
Everyone was expecting Cardiff to turn us over..
infact with a bit of luck the game should have been won for us after 30 minutes…
Moan at the end of the season if things go T..s up but now is not the time..
Remember we could be bottom of the league like some teams…That’s the time to moan..

A very good 1st half which we dominated. We must have had 70/30 posession and created all the chances.
We should have had the game beyond reach at half time. We looked a bit tired, jaded, clueless in the 2nd half as our confidence sapped away.
Exactly the same players, but playing half as well.
Fans were great in the 1st half and the team responded to that. 2nd half it was a feeling of ‘here we go again’ as the heads dropped and we stopped playing football.
It proves to me that if the fans don’t bottle it (i.e. they get behind the team) then nor will the team.
So it’s in our hands. Did you all sing your hearts out for the lads on Sunday? Or were you a moaner waiting to get on the team’s back?
what the hell is wrong with everyone asking for mick’s job? the atmosphere for the first 40 minutes was fantastic and we’re 4 points clear at the top of the league. never has anyone sailed through this league without a blip. 1 win and it’ll be back to super mick mccarthy.. kightly was right, the team will be broken up and the interest gone if we don’t go up. we’ve never had such a good chance so get behind the team and make it happen.. dave jones took a pop at us saying the atmosphere made them more nervous and he was right..

I honestly dont think most of the people who contribute opinions on here dont go to the games, they cant do.
Anyone who was there could see the desperate efforts being made by our players but also the awful lack of quality and composure
If we get promoted it will be by limping across the line after our great start gave us such a big lead
All we needed this season to get automatic promotion was a settled and solid back 4 to support the efforts of our great attacking players..12 games left and we still have no idea who is going to be the other 3 clowns alongside Foley

The problem for the doom merchants is that despite the results we are still moving towards promotion. You’ve predicted MM being gone by christmas 2007, then by August 2008 then christmas 2008. He is still here and top of the league, but you have criticised him for so long you cannot enjoy the feeling of being top. You know that if we get promoted it was in spite of you and that you were just another obstacle. Never mind if we go up we probably will do an albion then you can come on here smugly and say told you so. Get a life or at least some therapy.

People either can’t afford to go or would rather stay in then end up in the middle of a riot. ie violence in football is offputting to many people.
And some of us have other things to do. I did catch the last half of the match on the beeb’s website…they stated Wolves started brightly…but….Cardiff scored. I would like to listen to the Wolves on Wolf FM not Beacon Baggies FM.
Anyways, Wolves are very fortunate to be on top. From what I have heard, it was an improvement. Bu the defence is still a problem even with Berra…and to be honest if we could get Mancienne back on loan so much the better as Wolves lost fewer games when he was in the team.

There were two blokes sat behind me in the North Bank yesterday and when we went 2.1 down I just couldn’t believe the next 20 minutes of constant whingeing and moaning that was coming from them. These are the ‘supporters’ we could well do without. Yes, we lost our way badly and were lucky with the equaliser, but you have to look at the bigger picture and think that after half an hour we could have been 3 or 4 goals up with a bit of luck. It seems that our confidence is fragile at the moment and we need a couple of experienced heads to help us through. Fair play to Dave Edwards who kept trying to get things going again and had a fine game. Win against plymouth and that suddenly becomes 4 points from 2 games and it doesn’t seem all that bad. Apart from Blues away, our run-in now comprises teams in the lower half of the table, so there is still room for optimism. Keep the Faith. We are Wolves !

It can also be used as a description of someone naive or easy to please.

Got to say I sit next to a right moaner and he does my head in, but the first half on Saturday was vintage stuff and we should have been comfortably ahead. yes Keogh should have scored, he scuffed one against the post, and I was right behind the other which he thumped and it hit the keeper on the arm. Yes – either side of the keeper and it was a goal, but to be honest had that been Iwelumo or Vokes we would all be raving on about the save and not the miss.
Get off their backs, we are top of the league, nobody in the top half apart from Bristol won that are important – and yes we should have capitalised. To be honest thought if 12 draws won us the league from here on in I wouldn’t give a toss. I know its not likely, but neither is Cardiff winning their 4 games in hand that likely IMHO.
Get behind them, I’d rather we only had 12000 crouds if we supported the team rather than 12000 supporters and 12000 moaning idiots.

This is inane. The so-called moaners need to recognise that we ae top and must have played well at some point, under MM’s management to achieve this and the so-called happy clappers need to recognise that the quality has dropped. Presunably we all want Wolvers promoted. If that is the case we need to play our part in assisting this and support the team. There will be plenty of time for moaning at the end of the season if we are not promoted. Until then if I am forced to be in one of these two stupid camps then I am a happy clapper. Those of you who want to moan that is your right but you can see the effect it has on the players, and frankly you are part of the problem.
We are a young team with potential. If we are promoted I think there will be big problems but I would never air those feelings at the ground. If I couldn’t enjoy it I wouldnt go.

I am a keogh fan. I think the bloke is a great example to all players.
Even if the fans are booing him or knocking him, still runs his socks off an gives 110%.
We knew Keogh wasnt a goal machine when we bought him in, and it was Billy Sharp, so therefore, why dog the lad because he doesnt score as much.
Although he doesnt score, his passing and movement on and off the ball is still very good.
You lot need to take another look at what Keogh does best, and that is:
Holds the ball up well
Passing, making good short sharp flick ons and through balls
Movement on and off the ball
And last of all, running his feet into the ground to win the ball.
And yes I DO think he is a favourite, but giving 110% every week and showing the right attitude and doing what he does best, I WOULD GIVE HIM THAT STARTING SHIRT EVERY WEEK!
UP THE WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems a nlot of our so called supporters werm’t at the same game as me. Firstly Ward must have been man of the match folled by Keogh. Collins could not be blamed either. Berra said it was him for the second goal and Ward had a very good tacle spin back to the Cardiff player. Chopra was not being marked in the box. This is why we made a draw. We should have been 3 goals up after 10 mins. SEB was trying to get Keogh a gpal instead of burying it and a great save from their keeper from Keogh. Our luck just changed with our goal and lets hope it carries pn like it for the rest of the season.

That game is one we would have gone on to lose in the past – maybe our luck has just turned again. Weve had our wobble – now lets roll !!!

So not only are we relying on the chasing teams having poor form, injuries and suspensions. We now also rely on gifted goals to gain 1 point against mighty Cardiff.Pathetic.McCarthy out!!

79 – True enough Reading have 2 games in hand,
1.)we have the points
2.)they have to win them
3.)they haven’t scored in how many games?
4.)they’re on a similar run to us
Who SHOULD be worried?

EVERY thread on the E & S message board no matter how different has the same theme running through it!
SO called Happy Clappers Vs Non Happy Clappers
NB* The only thing this achieves is the fans fighting amongst themselves with pathetic name calling the common outcome
NB* IF the manager, staff and players are as spineless to listen to a small minority on message boards, a small minority at games with ironic cheers and some booing – What does that say about these people?
Are they MEN or MICE?
Using the fans as a reason for poor performance and results is the oldest excuse in the book and very easy to do – Personally, If the players were busy doing the business – Would they care about isolated comments?
My advice to you my friends is dont be so gullable – MOST Wolves fans (the large majority that is) do the right thing by the club and have done so for years!
NB* The manager, staff, players and club OWE it to us fans to do and give their very best EVERY game/ time they put on a shirt
I would ask them to stop hiding behind excuses/ spin that causes this rift between loyal fans and start to act in a manner that is fitting for the shirt they represent!
Yes We are Top at the moment BUT – IF we play the same way for another 9 games it may well be too late by then!
Here’s hoping a “change” is soon gonna come!
UP THE WOLVES!

91. Get a life you moaning Idiot, I read the drivel you write in ALOB and you’ve never had a good word to say about Wolves, so do yourself a favour and support sandwell town then you would have something to moan about.

CHEERS RON NO.81. Bottom line is I am a fan of wolves always have been always will be, I travel 62 miles there and 62 miles home, but would I ever swap them for another perhaps more appealing side?! no, to me there isn’t a more appealing side. I love the wolves. We have the players just need some tweaking. Reading do have 2 games in hand,

cont… but who says they will win them? They are as inconsistant as we have been. Lets put thingsa into perspective we have the 2nd youngest squad in the division and we have been top all season and the team to beat, to be here is an incredible achievement and I am backing us to win this league now.
