4465270Birmingham have signed former Newcastle and Tottenham right-back Stephen Carr on a short-term contract.

The 32-year-old Dubliner has put pen to paper on a one-month deal and is available for the Championship clash at Crystal Palace, subject to confirmation from the Football League.

Carr, who has 44 caps for the Republic of Ireland, has not played this season after taking the decision to retire in December.

But, after being on trial with Blues for the last couple of weeks and working on his fitness levels, Carr is aiming to resurrect his career at St. Andrew’s.

Boss Alex McLeish said: “We’ve been looking to strengthen the full-back position and are pleased to bring in Stephen, as he brings with him great experience.

“He has not played for a while but there’s no doubt he is a quality player, who can definitely bring something to the side once he is fully match fit.”
