We won’t slip up – Sylvan

Saturday 21st February 2009, 11:17AM GMT.

COVENTRY V WOLVES 31 GD 07Striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has vowed Wolves will be fearless during the season’s run-in and promised fans: “We won’t slip up.”

The 20-goal Championship top scorer believes Wolves are refreshed after their trip to La Manga – and ready to take the Championship by storm again with a return to their early-season form.

He said: “Everyone’s waiting and expecting us to slip up. That’s not the mindset we need. We need the mindset of keeping going until the wheels fall off – but the wheels aren’t going to fall off.

“We’re going to keep grinding away and we’re positive. It’s a fresh start – almost a fresh season for us. It’s the last 13 games and we want to go out there with fearlessness.

“We want to play the way we have been for much of the season and see where it takes us.”

Ebanks-Blake understands the anxiety that has gripped the Molineux masses after one win in nine games. But he has called on the fans to remain positive in the run-in to provide the right platform for the players to perform.

He said: “I think the key is a positive mindset and that’s not just the players, but the fans and everyone involved. Everyone gets anxious – everyone wants to get over that finishing line.

“Positive influences produce positive results. We’re not being negative and we want the fans to be the same and get behind us.

“We want to put on a show for them, we want to perform, play well, work hard for each other and be talking about positive results, week-in, week-out.”

Ebanks-Blake goes into the lunch-time’s duel with form team Cardiff with four goals in his last two games at Molineux, including his first hat-trick against Norwich.

But he has drawn two blanks on the road after missing the last-gasp spot kick and chance to salvage a point in the 2-1 defeat at Coventry.

What a brilliant article from Dave Jones. Loved the bit “The idiots on the message boards don’t have a clue what goes on inside the club. they sit up there in Mum’s and Dad’s attic, 40 years old and still at home telling you what you should be doing ”
The furore about Mark Davies totally proves that.

We need to ram Dave Jones’ comments back down his throat – he is a bottler and needed £10m to build a team of has-beens to get us promoted. £3m on Kenny Miller anyone? Shocking. He blew it big time in 2002 and the fans rightly never forgave him for.

It seems that people are lining up to have a pop at us, everyone seems to have an opinion, taking delight in the fact that we are ‘wobbling’, ‘stuttering’, ‘choking’ or any other derogatory term you can think of. I think that we need to now adopt a siege mentality over the last 13 games, and show everyone that we are united in our quest for a common goal. Part-time fans like Southbank Barmy Army need not apply, unless of course he wants to direct his agression towards cheering and supporting us rather than criticising at every opportunity. It is attitudes like his that threaten to derail our chances, and fans like him are the main reason why supporters of a lot of other teams dislike us. So join in or naff off!

People are entitled to an opinion that is contrary to your own you know?

Since getting into the Championship and apart from our one solitary success you tell me when we haven’t bottled it when it has come to the crunch? Giving up a massive lead to the Baggies? Losing in the playoffs…is it three times? No end of half cocked efforts of cup runs? Losing to Reading (twice) this year?

I could get the history books out and find the last twentyish years littered with bottle outs! I’ll always give the lads 1000% support but as a Wolves fan I never let myself get carried away with premature thoughts of success because it seems almost every year at least two or three teams we bottle it just when it seems we have a real chance within our grasp!

Now that you are in your 40s you should be well beyond that sort of thing – why not spend your time more productively by doing things like supporting your football club or perhaps redecorating your attic (put in some velux windows or something, let a little light into your life ;) )…

Best thing I have seen written on this page in about two months. I have been trying to encourage the same but E & S chooses not to print more than half.
Maybe they think is more entertaining to let the idiots keep having a dig at the team, players, and now. mainly, each other.
Sorry, but I don’t believe 90 per cent of Wolves fans are in such a negative frame of mind. I don’t think this message board reflects the support of the masses, which gives me confidence we will unite on Sunday and bring the house down getting behind our team.
If the team is going to throw away the best chance they have had in god knows how long, lets not be part of it.
I would rather look back at the end of the season, knowing whatever happens, that I supported the team through the good and the bad.
If it goes pear shaped the manager will be out.
I still can’t believe people are calling for his head at this point in the season. The only manager I know who has been sacked for being successful is Capello, and as things stand, however precarious, we remain top.

25 and 26, it’s not the “happy clappers” that have cost Wolves over the years. (By the way 26, self praise is no praise.) It is the folks like you who boo our players, and get them to the point where they dare not try the unusual. They realise very early in their Wolves careers that there are folks down there who will vilify them if they try something different that doesn’t work out.

Players play better with confidence. Don’t believe me? Why do you think Keogh snatches at chances and misses? He gets booed if he tries and fails. Why does Collins make occasional bloopers? He gets vilified by you lot, and so his mind is half on fear of failure, and half on what he needs to do. Conversely, why did Eastwood stroll around as though he owned Molineux? He knew you idiots would still sing, “Freddy, Freddy…” no mater if he tried or not. You lot used to say he would score 20+ goals per season, given the starts. How many has he scored this season? Is he still starting? He came on after 89 minutes today. Maybe Mick was right about him after all, and you lot were wrong. You sang at Mick last season, “You don’t know what you’re doing…” He has us top of the league,…. without Freddy. Amazingly enough, you still feel he is a muppet. TOP OF THE LEAGUE shows me that he does know what he is doing. Your innane cries let me know YOU don’t.

Sure, we have had a bad run. Sure, it’s upseting. Sure, we should be worried. We will start winning again though, and we will go on a winning run again. We still have the players that took us on those runs earlier in the season. Keogh and Collins were part of those runs, but don’t let that stop you lot needing to have a go at someone. You can have a go at me all you like. I have been around long enough to be thick skinned. I also have a life. Have your opinions, and disagree with mine all you like. That’s what makes football such a great game. Don’t get down on the players and manager though. That is self defeating.

Being supporters of Wolves, it is good to be able to have a banter and having opinions from both ends.

The main aim of our support is not to lower the morale of the team but to be able to provide a platform where different thoughts are given and to provide a positive response and push from the team, irregardless of the opinions. The team should be take the opinions in good faith and response positively to the loyal supporters who I think care for the team or they won’t be bother making a comment.

If we called ourselves fans then the end product of our cause and support is to see Wolves gained pormotion and continued to progress for the greater glory of the club and for the faithful support of the fans.

When I go out and do my job; I dont carry any baggage from my personal life/ outside influences – I just get on with my job!

Are these players so spineless and weak minded that they take notice of internet board comments, small sections of the crowd and the local rag/ media?

Or is it a convenience that they have these issues to blame rather than examining themselves and their own lack of effort/ talent? (yes SEB has scored most of the goals)

SEB like many other of the team seem to have too much time on their hands to make regular contributions in the E & S/ Or is it a case of the club allowing them to do so?

We dont want these regular similar/ same comments – what we want is action on the field of play – chances put in the back of the net – the team defending properly etc etc

Comment 58 – Dave Jones also said that it is the same at Cardiff and most clubs – as he talks to other managers – so Wolves are not “exclusive” to the “message board” phenomena

Looking back at the Dave Jones Manager end of his reign at the Mol – every home game I never witnessed much/ if any verbally aimed at DJ or the players – even in the Prem from the stands or the various message boards?

This leads me to wonder if this was the “spin” that DJ was told just before he was given the boot? Something along these lines from Mr Moxey:

Moxey: Dave look mate, the peasants are revolting (shows him one or two comments from a Wolves message board – printed copy) & these comments are just a couple from many others! (Throws in a good measure of overacting for effect)

DJ: Really, I thought I got on ok with the fans?

Moxey: Well thats not what we have heard (Looks at DJ with very concerned expression)

DJ: Well I never – What can we do to change their minds?

Moxey: Sorry, Dave, Look mate, I dont want to eh – rain on your parade but; I’ve had a word with our owners and we’ve come to the conclusion that the fans are very important

DJ: Oh I see; So what are you saying Jez?

Moxey: If it were up to me personally Dave, I would put you first of course; But, I have no choice in the matter and we’re letting you go
Sorry Dave, Can you clear out your desk; and close the door on your way out

DJ: (Is speechless and bemused by the whole thing – walks off heading for his office)

NB* IF the manager, staff and players are as spineless to listen to a small minority on message boards, a small minority at games with ironic cheers and some booing – What does that say about these people?

    Are they MEN or MICE?

Using the fans as a reason for poor performance and results is the oldest excuse in the book and very easy to do – Personally, If the players were busy doing the business – Would they care about isolated comments?

My advice to you my friend is dont be so gullable – MOST Wolves fans (the large majority that is) do the right thing by the club and have done so for years!

PS* Is your command of the English language limited to abusive words only?

    UP THE WOLVES!
