Elokobi target after new deal

Saturday 21st February 2009, 12:00PM GMT.

STOCK 1 GD 23Forgotten Wolves defender George Elokobi insists the prospect of returning as a Premier League player is an incentive.

The 23-year-old left-back has signed his 12-month extension, which ties him to Molineux to 2011.

Elokobi joins Andy Keogh and Matt Jarvis to have committed his future in recent weeks, while Stephen Ward, Michael Kightly, Neill Collins and Carl Ikeme have all signed long term deals since the end of last season.

Cameroon-born Elokobi is well down the road to recovering from cruciate ligament damage, after being out since August 23.

He would relish the chance to test himself against the world’s best if Wolves clinch promotion.

He said: “At the moment, I’m not tempting fate, but if we’re in the Premier League, that’s an incentive for me to come back.

“It’s been a brilliant season and there’s no doubt in my mind they can carry on doing what they’ve been doing.”

Elokobi wants to reward the club for their loyalty and patience.

He said: “I said I’d love to sign last pre-season, because I feel happy here.

“I’ve got an exceptional manager behind me and his coaching staff. From the chairman to the tea lady to especially the fans, everyone likes me.

“Now I want to repay the club for the loyalty they have shown me.

“If I could do it now, I would. I’ll always give 100 per cent for this club whenever I cross that white line, that’s what I look forward to doing.”

Elokobi was hoping to get the nod to step up his rehabilitation from leading specialist Andy Williams in London this week.

But he had to shelve plans for the visit after trains were cancelled following the death of a man on the track at Marston Green, between Birmingham and Coventry.

George, your wide grin when you ‘bounce a winger’ would be for most fans at the moment the greatest tonic imaginable.
Get fit big fella you’ll be playing in the greed league with The Wolves next term.
I for one will be very happy to see you in the left back position. Solid!!!

Half the reason we are top of the league is because he has not been playing ! He is not much better than our other resident clown “Collins”.

Would prefer Ward any day & invest in a Decent LB once in the promised land.

Today’s results increase your chances of being a premier league player George. Here’s hoping we can capitalise with a good performance tomorrow.

Okay, so judging by the results today the clouds have partially lifted. Despite our own performances I think a large slice of fear was brought on when everyone realized Reading could catch us with their games in hand.
Considering their result today, it seems impossible to call any theirs just the same as it seems impossible to guess ours. As for Blues, they have lost at Coventry just as we did, which tells me they are doing no better.
None of the top three are showing any form at the minute.
If we can beat Cardiff tomorrow which I still think, sadly, is gonna be a huge mental task for our players considering their confidence levels, it could well swing the momentum back in our favour. And with a second home game coming up against Plymouth?
I don’t think any of us would have expected both Reading and Blues to lose today.
It’s all gone our way, so lets jump on this chance and whoever plays tomorrow, lets let Cardiff know who they are playing, and show the division this club is united by getting behind the manager, players, the club, one hundred percent.

Who says he’s “forgotten”? Clear he’s not forgotten by the club and I don’t think he’s forgotten by the fans either. What rubbish!

Can the E&S please explain how George Elokobi has been ‘forgotten’? No one has forgotten him. Sloppy journalism.

I am no boo boy, despite the recent form (which clearly i am very concerned about) but Neil Collins on a long term contact?? i.e possibly a premiership defender next year – no offense Neil, but just how do you propose to stop the likes of Agbonlahor skinning you at 100 miles an hour and leaving you for dead????

Great to have you on board George. I think we’d be running away with the league like Leicester if you had played all term. Let’s hope we can finally win a game or keep a clean sheet in this damn league then none of us will be disappointed!!!
