Edwards ready for the nod

Wolves midfielder Dave Edwards is ready to step in if boss Mick McCarthy is considering changes for the clash against Cardiff.
McCarthy admits he could have taken all 11 players off in last week’s 1-0 defeat at Burnley, in what he acknowledged as a seasonal low.
Since then, the squad have embarked on a morale-boosting four days in the sun at the five-star La Manga complex in southern Spain, determined to treat the run-in like a fresh 13-game campaign after one win in nine.
Versatile Edwards would appear to be high in his plans for any changes, having twice played at right-back and once at wide right this season, as well as playing as a support striker.
In the three-way battle to who partner captain Karl Henry in the middle of the park out of Nigel Quashie, Dave Jones and Edwards, the latter believes he can make the difference after being one of the few bright performers as a sub at Turf Moor.
Edwards said: “I want to be a Premier League player and I want to be starting for us this season, to help us get promoted and then kick on next season.
“It’s been disappointing from a personal point of view. I had a little run in the team and felt I did OK in most of the games.
“I always pride myself on working hard and hopefully that pays off and I can get back in the team. If the gaffer wants me, I’d be delighted to slot back in because I feel I can do a job.”
Wolves haven’t kept a clean sheet for nine games, during which they have only won one.
But Edwards remains confident Wolves, as the country’s top scorers with 64 goals, can outscore teams.
He said: “We haven’t had many clean sheets in a long time and that’s the one thing the gaffer is most disappointed about, because we do score goals.
“We haven’t scored heavily in the last two, but we got three against Norwich, three against Watford so we’ve got goals in the team.”
