Time to map out a plan for Villa's future

Wolves blog: Lay off Keogh
Friday 6th February 2009, 9:08AM GMT.
Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd warns his fellow fans that booing does not do any good – especially when Andy Keogh is involved.
I have always been proud to be a Wolves fan and proud to have the opportunity to write a weekly blog that hopefully stirs up a bit of debate on this site.
What doesn’t make me proud – and actually really saddens me – is the cacophony of booing and abuse that greeted Andy Keogh’s substitution on Tuesday night when he trudged off the field.
I’m not an Keogh fan, I don’t think he has what it takes for this level of football. He doesn’t tackle enough, he is too lightweight and he always looks for a pass when shooting is the obvious option.
To treat one of our own players in the way that some fans did on Tuesday night was disgraceful and they should hang their heads.
Booing at Molineux seems to have increased massively in the last decade or so. If certain players are having a bad game or even if it’s goalless at half time, then certain morons in the crowd believe that the team should be made aware that they are unhappy in the form of an idiotic boo. It’s completely counterproductive.
As fans, we have a responsibility to lift the players and they in turn have a responsibility to lift us. But supporting them should be unconditional.
At times on Tuesday night the atmosphere and noise generated by fans inside Molineux was fantastic. But when Norwich pulled it back to 3-3 was when the players needed that lift, so the fans didn’t deliver.
Instead, the nerves got the better of some fans and with every pass that went astray the groans grew. At times you could hear a pin drop.
With the final third of the season upon us, now is the time that we need to pull together and stay positive. Booing your own is just cowin saft!
Keogh shouldn’t have started on Tuesday, I think most Wolves fans would agree with that. Mick needs to stop being so pig headed and realise his obstinate blind loyalty towards poor quality players that ‘put a shift in’ needs to stop, or it could seriously railroad our promotion charge.
After the game he was quite right to criticize the lamebrains who gave Keogh a roasting, but he should have also admitted that he shouldn’t have put him in the firing line in the first place.
In the Express & Star, Martin Swain referred to this saga as “Keoghgate” and asked if Mick McCarthy should continue to play a player whose confidence is obviously at an all time low?
My own view is that Keogh needs to be taken out of the starting line-up for his own sanity with Sam Vokes or Chris Iwelumo given a decent run with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake up front.
I watched Ebanks-Blake’s body language as that third goal was bundled in for Norwich. With his hands on his hips, his posture screamed out, “What more can I do?”
He scores his first senior hat-trick and was probably sitting in the dressing room after the game absolutely gutted!
Too many players had off-nights against Norwich, including the ever-dependable duo of Kevin Foley and Richard Stearman.
Michael Kightly’s early exit really upset the balance of the team and goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey seems to command his box less and less with every game he plays.
Hennessey also needs to grow a pair of kahuna’s and learn to let the defenders in front of him know in no uncertain terms when to leave the ball – and when they should be hoofing the thing into row Z.
David Jones and Karl Henry, who had a really poor game, were also playing far too deep on Tuesday night, with neither really venturing forward to support the front men.
Tuesday night of course was tinged with sadness, as news came in on Monday that out former midfielder Paul Birch had lost his fight against cancer.
Birchy was a tenacious and talented player who gave his everything to the cause in his five year spell with the club in the early Nineties. He will be sadly missed and our thoughts as always are with his friends and family.
Four points that should have been six from our last two home games has left us remarkably still five points clear of Reading and seven clear of Birmingham, albeit having played a game more.
With Christophe Berra, Kyel Reid and Nigel Quashie coming in, I’m happy with Mick’s transactions in the window and probably more relieved that none of our better players have jumped ship.
Apart that is from Mark Davies, whose impressive Bolton debut had Alan Hansen, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on Match of the Day lamenting about a player with a bright future in the top flight.
Apparently what hasn’t got a bright future, according to some online forums, is the Wolves fanzine “A Load of Bull”. Stories of the publications demise are complete and utter twoddle.
I spoke to fanzine editor Charles Ross before the Norwich game and he was slightly annoyed, to put it mildly, that rumours of the fanzine ending after this season had been doing the rounds.
The fanzine isn’t ending – if Wolves fans continue to support it and buy it in their numbers.
One way to show your support would be to give ALOB a vote at this year’s football fanzines awards http://www.footballfanzineawards.com/awards.php. Whilst there, you can also vote for your favourite online blog, although I’m not mentioning any names!
Nominations have to be in by the end of today and the most popularly nominated fanzines will get a mention on Monday, so show your support and get voting! Apologies if I sound like I’m running for council!
So it’s on mass to the Ricoh Arena to lock horns with an inconsistent Coventry Side and an ex-player that seems to have proved Mick McCarthy’s decision to off-load him almost incontestable.
The Sky Blues have also lost Jay Tabb to Reading, a player who I felt was their chief threat when the teams met at Molineux.
On the day that Mick McCarthy celebrates his 50th birthday, the team can hopefully deliver him the biggest present of all – three points and a step closer to promotion.
Enjoy the game and isn’t it amazing that I managed to make reference to Coventry City without mentioning Freddy Eastwood once? Well nearly anyway!
Happy birthday Mick and have a great weekend.

Totally agree Nathan. The morons who boo Keogh are clearly not Wolves fans. They of course always resort to the age old excuse “I pay to watch them so I’m entitled to my opinion!” Yes you are, but what positive outcome can ever be achieved by mindless booing of your own team?? The opposition must love coming to Molineux to listen to these idiots deride their own team. The run in will be tense enough and is a time to stick together. There is never a time when it’s acceptable to behave in this way. If you want to give players some stick, save it for the opposition or get yourselves off down the Poorthornes instead. You’re made for each other.

NO ONE BOOED! Where is this make belive booing coming from :S Must be far sides of the billy wright or steve bull cuz i heard nothing from the northbank, and sitting in the southbank all i herd were a few ironic cheers for mick McCarthy and then us cheering his name :S
Surely after a 1/10 performance like his tuesday night, the fans singin his name as his substituted cudnt dent his confidence? Ridiculous.

As fans who pay our money we are entitled to say what we want.
As for the booing… was you at the game? Nobody has “booed” one of our own players for years.
Fans were right to cheer when Mick finally took him off against Norwich, not because the fans are laying into Keogh, because the fans had had enough of him jumping out of tackles and not competing for headers. He is useless, and you can’t just play him for workrate because any of us could put on the shirt n run around all game. It doesn’t mean we’re any good does it? At the end of the day he’s just not good enough. 99% of fans who understand the game know that Vokes or Iwelumo should be upfront. It isn’t that hard to work out.

Hi Nathan
Great blog – I agree with everything.
Don’t boo the players, but MM STOP playing those that aren’t up to it. Keogh is an impact player, if we are leading by a goal or 2 with half an hour to go, there is no better player in our ranks to bring on to protect that lead than Keogh! He runs, he harries the oppposition’s defence, and with no pressure on him to get a goal you never know he might just score, but if we need a goal to get something from the game then i’m afraid he aint your man!
Great blog again nathan, But here’s how it is. i too am not a keogh fan and never have been, but the only way us wolves fans can make our feelings known is by booing, we do not have the previlage to sit in front of MM and express our opinions and we never will. Myself and a vast percent of wolves supporters know that he’s only playing because he’s irish? and we all know MM loves his irish. BIG Chris is a far better player who like all strikers go through a bit of a goal drought, but he can’t get back to scoring ways if he aint in the starting 11… Simple soultion MM stop playing Keogh, We stop booing. We’ve payed our money…….
You are correct on two fronts; 1 – booing your own player is always wrong. It’s a players job to try and to do his best when picked, which I think Keogh has done. It’s a managers job to pick players who can deliver, which lead me to…
2 – Players must stay in the team based on performance, not effort. Big Chris found himself on the bench when he stopped producing, and the same must be true for all players, regardless of how hard they try.
You are however wrong on one front. You write “So it’s on mass to the Ricoh Arena…”
Surely you mean “en masse”?
I agree with your comments on booing, and would never boo a Wolves player, but at the time I could well understand why fans expressed their frustration with Keogh. A striker who misses so many chances is never going to be popular anywhere.

Good blog and spot on the team need us fans more than ever if we are to go up so get behind every player while they are on the pitch, we all know Keogh should not be in but that is not his fault but Mick’s

Well done Nathan , another good blog . We , the genuine and long standing ( suffering ) wolves supporters should NEVER boo our own players . Yes we have a right of debate over whether or not we feel a player is good enough to keep his place in the side but that debate should take place before and after the game when our opinions could have been vindicated or blown away by an outstanding performance from the individual concerned .
However , with regard to the manager my own opinion has never changed and I find his tactics and team selection to be totally confusing . I am old enough to remember when we bought Waggy to the club on boxing day in 1964 and he went straight into the team that same afternoon . Similarly with Chris Crowe and Peter McParland plus many many more . Having paid in excess of £2million for Christophe Berra he should have gone straight in and that would have prevented Stearman and Craddock from wondering who was going to be the fall guy for the next match ( if not both with Collins available again ) .
Also , with regard to Mark Davies , it was always obvious that he and MM did not get on and , although of course I have no proof of what actually happened , I can imagine that he came back to the mol at the end of december only to be told that he would not get in the first team and that he could go back to leicester and even become cup tied . That has , in my opinion , ost us the services of a player who was the best to come out of the academy since Robbie Keane and Joleon Lescott . I just hope that other academy players do not feel that their best chance of a future lies elsewhere under the present regime .
Let’s all get together for the final lap and cheer ALL the boys on to the premier .

its a disgrace the way wolves fans boo players and even the manager gets lots of stick,if it all starts to go wrong this season the boo boys will have a birthday, they are disgrace.

For all those saying that there was no booing. I was unable to travel to the game – mid week ones are almost impossible for me to get to – so I had Sky Sports on. I forget who was watching our game but he said that there was booing and how unbelievable it was. He then went on to say how fickle the Wolves fans can be and that they can affect the team with their attitude. You know what ?… I had to agree with almost every word he said and that is shocking.

How can you defend Keogh? The lad is useless and we pay our money and should be allowed to voice our opinion?
I have to agree with the comments about laying off Andy Keogh. It seems to me that these fans are blind to the real problem with the team – namely the defence. Hennessey does not command his box like Matt Murray used to and, for me, Stearman flatters to deceive – he often gets himself into to trouble by either not reading the bounce of the ball correctly, or by slipping at the wrong time. Lets hope that Berra can be as commanding as his reputation and that we can get Mancienne back. If we do get promoted (as I hope) the defence as it is, will get slaughtered in the top flight – and that by teams like Bolton let alone Chelsea etc.

This whole debacle is Micks fault. WHY when you have a fast tricky winger on the bench who could fill in for kightly perfectly WOULD YOU BRING ON A STRIKER AND PLAY ANOTHER STRIKER WIDE RIGHT! Absolutely stupid. Its this stupid loyalty to his favorites that frustrates the crowd.
Hel play Keogh on sat, no doubt about it, Collins will probably be back in as well.
Unless Mick starts playing players in there positions, and does away with his buddy system, were going to bottle it big time.
I believe that fans that go to the games and pay micks and keoghs wages are entitled to voice there opinions. There professional football players not kids,

I must admit I will scream at Keogh from the stands, but hes not the only one. I cannot agree morethat he does not seem to put his foot in where it might hurt. I have seen some good performances where he runs down the ball and some of his layoffs have been great, he moves the defence around so others get space and whos to say that isnt his role.
But all in all if he he shot when in a good position, and even if some went into row Z he would be appreciated more.
As for BOOING individuals its not on.
Still top of the league

You’re not the solution to stop the boo-boys, Nathan. You are part of the problem. Like many supporters you can’t see the quality of players like Neill Collins and Andy Keogh. They do make mistakes, every player does, but they also do a lot of nice things out there.
Keogh is a player that links the play between midfield and the striker (often SEB) very good. He doesn’t score many goals but he is in there providing all the time he is on. A very useful player for a team to have. Wolves are lucky!
Collins have made some fatal mistakes (like Stearman last) but when he is on Wolves does not concede three goals (like tuesday). He is terrific in the air and he makes it very hard for a striker to come through and aim at goal.
Supporters and writers alike thinks that the manager’s got favorites among the players if he holds on to certain players that has made mistakes. That is spreading myths, Nathan, instead of educating. In a multidimensional view of it you can see the benefits of a player for the game even if he makes some mistakes.
The one dimensional view of the media – among them many of your articles Nathan – then spreads to some of the low brow supporters and it makes it O.K. for them to boo at certain players.
If you do have a multidimensional image of the players and the game you should spread that and educate the readers, not going on the way you do. But sadly I don’t think you’ve got it in you Nathan.
But I’m very pleased that Wolves got a manager who can see past single mistakes and look at the positives that a player brings to the team and how to use it to the benefit of it. Despite boo boys and one dimensional writers.

Nice Blog. I didn’t hear any booing on Tuesday just the ironic cheer, which I feel was aimed at MM.
I disagree Foley had a bad game, I don’t remember him having anything to do – but football is all about opinions! I do however agree about Henry. 2nd half he was breaking down the left with a 3 on 4 and I said to my brother watch him stop and pass it back. Low and Behold he did!
No mention of the 9.5% increase in early bird price in the NB and SB? Was this blog written before these were out? I wish the club would of just said it as it was for the price increase and said “its been 4 years since an increase and potential of Premiership football” That’s fine. Not to say “We have thought of economic climate and financial issues for supporters” – to me and any non football supporter I would read that as a hold or decrease not for Moxey. No doubt the economic climate wont effect his bonus for the Premier league!
Finally Keogh. He is not great but Mick made the mistake Tuesday night and frustration towards Keogh. Square pegs and round holes!!! Reid would been best swap. I heard a comment from Mick after the game when asked did he take Keogh off cus the fans frustrations he responded with “did I eck, I was tempted to keep him on.” – Yes Mick be stubborn and cost us promotion. If you have so much faith in Keogh as a striker you wouldn’t of moved him to the wing and left him up front. That tactical mistake cost us the game! Mick knocked his confidence not the fans though they didn’t help. His body language on the wing was all wrong!
Anyway I’m betting on Reading and Blues to win this weekend again! (It worked well last week! :-D) See you all in Cov!

Keogh has had enough chances, he simply isn’t good enough.

As reguards Molineux games… keep up the good work , If any player lacks any conifidence at any time . CRUCIFY him , that way we can drop loads of points .. not win the championship .. get rid of that IDIOT Mcarthy and these half a dozen premiership quality players .GET US BACK SEVENTH SPOT WHERE WE BELONG . I do think Keogh is a fantastic player-remeber his first season, I thought he was a clever player like Sheringham.
He needs time on the training ground with a real finisher and the lad isnt small he is fairly tall with a muscular physique but tony daley needs to give him something to make him more aggresive in the challenge and we need to back him and hopefully get him back to the player of two years ago, come on andy lad direct and aggresive have those traits your coming to the prem with us!

I’m getting a bit sick of this booing nonsense. Precisely WHO booed? I was in the South Bank (where else?) on Tuesday night and all I heard was justified, loud applause for Keogh’s long overdue substitution. That’s right, NO BOOING. Nor did I hear any booing aimed at Keogh during his time on the pitch, either! Plenty of groans at his awful play, yes, but NO BOOING. Just where did this ridiculous accusation originate from?
Keogh’s not up to the job in my view. He’s lightweight, weak, cannot tackle, cannot head a ball with purpose, cannot take on defenders, refuses to shoot and misses absolute sitters. He’s got plenty of energy, enthusiasm and always “puts a shift in” (I’m sick of that phrase!), but that can’t hide the simple fact that he’s not up to the job. I don’t think so, anyway.
However, we should not boo him or any other player (not that we have!!!). Back the lads to the absolute hilt during the run-in and save your complaints for the message boards.
Message to Mick: less of the sarcastic hand claps, please. It’s up to the fans to decide whether any particular player has earned the right to receive applause, not you. Mick expects the fans to behave decently, yet he treats us with contempt with gestures like that.
We were here long before you arrived, Mick, and we’ll be here long after you’ve gone, old pal.
DON’T EVER FORGET IT.

Keogh is just not good enough but its MM that keeps playing him same as Collins.
When a manager keeps a player on the pitch who is not having a good game just because the fans want a change is stubborn and not doing what a manager is for.
I am not a fan of Keogh or Collins only because they are not good enough for a starting place, BUT I never boo a player I just get sick of the manager playing them.

As stated on tuesday I was not at the game this week, but spoke to my Dad after the game who was fuming with the performance Keogh put up on the night.
He did state how ever it was ironic cheers at Mick for finally bringing him off than anything aimed at Keogh himself.
Also I can’t comment on the performance this week, I thought we were great in parts against Watford last week and sound like a real threat going forward again (scoring 6 in 2 games).
I was a little bemused to hear when Kightly went off injured that he put Vokes on to replace him instead of Reid. Surely this shuffling is what dis-joints a team, we have a winger on the bench so when your winger gets injured just swap like for like.
On the Keogh thing, I think for Wolves sake and Keogh’s own sake he should this summer seek a move away from Wolves. I think the fans have lost patience with him and too easily get on his back.
Here is how i will prove that point. If Blake has 2 shots and blazes them over the bar, what is the response? Most would be, he’s getting the chances or he’ll hit the net with the next 1. Now put the same situation on Keogh, and how do people react when its him??
I know alot of people were annoyed at his lack of guts infront of goal on Tuesday, from what i hear he just wouldn’t shoot.
What annoys me here is, it would be like me in work doing my reports and then keeping them to myself instead of mailing the bosses what they want. In the end, if I keep this up I will be out of the company as I am not delivering, which is what Keogh has not done for over a year now.
Good Blog Nathan, I will get my vote in, we dont always see eye to eye but your blogs do stir the debate and for that its definatly worth the vote.

Would you prefer I softened my thoughts so as not to stir up any fans?

Just wanted to square something away here because it really does miss the point entirely.
There is no debate as to whether paying ‘fans’ can do what they want, we are all agreed on this and you have the right to voice your opinion.
The question in point is whether using this right to boo your own players is productive? To which the answer has to be no, has to be.
Put in laymans terms, if you own your own home and are unhappy with the state of your carpets you have every right to defocate upon them to your hearts content…..it’s your house and you paid for it. The question is, would this improve or worsen the situation?
Get behind the team. None of the players purposefully wastes chances or plays bad passes or gets caught out of position, it’s football…..it happens. We have a responsibility to demonstrate mature restraint to the benefit of the team and not allow our disspointment to overspill onto the team.

Decent BLOG Nath,
I must agree with the negativity levelled towards AK however I believe the frustrations are with the pig headedness of MM a typical Yorkshire trait, unfortunately…. As a true WW supporter, and football lover one has to wonder what young Sam Vokes has to do to get a start. I think the majority of our loyal following would concur as the lad has been outstanding, each and every time he pulls the shirt on. Yes AK did well at Blues, but who played along side him – Doh!!! Sam Vokes, no coincidence me thinks.
Another two players who in my and other Southbankers are not inspiring confidence are S Ward and W Hennessey. Ward has been excellent for the most this season, fair play, but I think that he has now been found out. Wayne is struggling big time he does not command his six yard box let along anywhere else, the defenders in front of him have no confidence in him. We all know our best keepers are injured – We should have cashed in!

I totally agree that no fan should ever boo any player in a Wolves shirt. However, MM needs to stop picking players like Collins and Keogh, when there are obviously better players on the bench.
I will say this again, Keogh is not a rubbish player. He is highly thought of by the Ireland manager. The problem is he is not a centre forward or a wide midfielder. His best position is behind a front 2, like Scholes – not in his class but who is? This is not a position at present that we could cater for.
Please MM keep Keogh and Collins on the bench. They are useful to employ for the last 10 minutes in certain games!

Remember when Steve Bull was boo’d against Bolton in the Cup?? that made me sick to the stomach….
As for Tuesday i didnt think there where boo’s as such just sarcastic cheers/jeers which does not help anyone. its counterproductive to say the least!

I think we are slipping back to last year with Mick having a go at the fans and the divide opening up in the club. yes we have got to stick together and support players. I thought the crowd lifted the team for the 2 quick goals on Tues and at times the atmosphere was fantastic, but even I shouted for god’s sake take Keough off. Mick has a stubborn streak which could cost us dear and he has to be responsible for utterly incomprehensible tactics like not putting Reid on for Kites.
This is why we are frustrated and we don’t want to lose out because of this.
Q What has happened to Shackell? Another £1 down the drain?
Q What really happened with mark Davies?
Q How come Bothroyd is banging them in at Cardiff?
I rest my case about Mick’s managerial style and bloody mindedness.

LET ME STATE SOME FACTS!!!
Ebanks blake-30aps 20goals
Iwelumo-18aps 13goals
kightly-29aps 7goals
Vokes-20aps 4goals
Collins-20aps 4goals
ANDREW KEOGH-15aps 3goals
IN 3 SEASONS KEOGH HAS SCORED 16 LEAGUE GOALS.
—-In my opinion the fans get frustrated with keogh simply because he has never been good enough to where the shirt,,we have been patient and got behind him now for 3 seasons!!
I believe that when youve got a striker like KEOGH thats only scored 3 goals isnt a player you need when you want promotion!, that wouldnt even be acceptable for a team in the bottom three!.

16 John Coop, report this moron to the stewards. You do not have to confront him, simply note his seat number and contact the club. If everyone did this the Mol would be a much more pleasant place to visit.

Everyone should vote for Nathan and his blog and a load of bull on this site: http://www.footballfanzineawards.com/awards.php
Love him or hate him, the blog stirs up a bit of a debate among the fans, which is what a blog should do. Good Luck Nathan, I’ve voted!!!
Get voting wolves fans! Could be the only thing we win this year!!!!

So ultimately the problem is McCarthy the guy you wanted sacked last year because he is not utilising his resources correctly. Playing Keogh out of position has I believe contributed to Keoghs confidence problem and in turn the constant playing of Keogh despite his failing confidence has illustrated McCarthys arrogance and stubbornness.
Some of the haters on here are obviously very very young wolves fans. When I see Keogh miss a sitter I think of John Paskin, Paul Mcloughlin, Bob Taylor, Steve Claridge. Some people just dont want to see his good sides, and i cant be bothered to go in to them again.
When I see Collins make a gaff I think back to Lawrie Madden, Paul Stancliffe, Rob Hindmarch, Derek Mountfield….Collins has scored more goals this season than that lot put together in their entire Wolves careers, and that lot all made more errors than Neil.
Who saw Stearman against Norwich (like against Blues at home) attempt and awful header back to his keeper ? Who saw Hennessey fail to command his area like he did against Reading at home again ? Why are we not starting up hate petitions against these players ?

I think the ironic cheers on Tuesday night did drown out the boos when Keogh went off. But is there any difference?

Excellent blog.
Keogh does not pick the team, and if MM selects him he will always go out and do his best. Whether his performance is up to what the disgraceful moaners/booers want is completely irrelevant. What is relevant is the way he is being treated by some idiots (they cannot be called supporters or fans!)badly affects his performance on the pitch and this can only be detrimental to the match result. It can never benefit Wolves.
To put it another way, because of the way he is being treated at present he will pass rather than shoot for fear of missing, whereas if he had the full backing of ALL fans he would have the confidence to shoot and probably score.
Regardless of what you think of him as a player, if he is picked to play then give him the 100% backing he deserves. You obviously make your own choices, but this could well make the difference between reaching the Promised Land or spending many more seasons in the wilderness. In other words, if you really support the old gold and black, THERE IS ONLY ONE CHOICE!!!

21 – with regards to the early birds, I’m a little annoyed as well. First, there’s the 2.5% reduction in VAT which should have seen my Billy Quiet ticket down by more than a tenner. Second, how come if we don’t get promoted, individual ticket prices will be reduced but season tickets won’t be?
Don’t get me wrong – I think the early bird is a good scheme, but once again I’m a little narked by the comments that you can watch a game for as little as sixpence, or whatever Moxey said, when in reality, they’ve taken the opportunity to put prices up by an average of 10% (including the fact that they’ve not passed on the 2.5% VAT reduction to us).

Find it strange this Keogh discussion comes at this stage of the season. He actually scored twice in five games before the Norwich game and it was nothing wrong in letting him start again. Last season was about the same – he seems to not score before christmas but start to score after christmas. But football is not about who is scoring the goals – very often the team plays better with Keogh on the pitch than with Keogh off the pitch. Football is not about playing the “best individual 11 players” – its about playing the best team, and Keogh is always in contention to start.
Sadly to many “homegrown experts” dont know football enough to understand that players like Collins and Keogh really are decent/good, and trying to convince McCarthy and others which team should be playing. We are top of the league and who can blame the manager for doing everything wrong? – only idiots!

Although I have never booed the players I think the fans have every right to show their displeasure at players/manager/owners of the club. How else does the ordinary fan tell the powers that be that they aint happy? The fans parliament is a waste of time and Mr Morgan is virtually a recluse.I know Moxey does pop his head out from time to time ,but if you actually listen to what he says,he never actually answers the question(he would make a very good politician). As for Wolves fans being fickle,if the majority of clubs had performed as we have done over the last 20 years they would have less than 10,000 there every week. The fact of the matter is the majority of Wolves fans know something about football and they arent going to be easily hoodwinked by the spin that is produced by the club on a regular basis.

I didn’t agree with the booing, but from where I was in the South Bank, there wasn’t much, and chants of Keogh Keogh were heard afterwards. I didn’t boo but I groaned and probably shouted in frustration when Keogh should have shot and passed instead, its the heat of the moment, its football. I don’t subscribe to this blind support either, players earn enough and fans are entitled to give them stick if they deserve it.

Senseless abuse of Keogh, Collins, whoever, is totally uncalled for, even on a board like this. It’s far better than doing at a game, though, because at least fans are getting it off their chest.
By the same token, the blind optimists on here (the “Mick Can’t Do Any Wrong” type) are just as bad as the whingers. You lot seem to think that no player -not even the manager- should be subject to scrutiny. WHY???? In every walk of life; in every job; we’re all accountable to somebody.
Yes, we’re top of the league. Yes, the lads have excelled themselves at certain times this season. Yes, there’s everything to play for. Yes, we’re going to have stutters like every team. We all know that. The problem is, current form (RESULTS)are so poor that only a fool would close his eyes to the situation. That’s what good management is all about: rectifying those mistakes as they appear. No wonder so many fans are getting nervous: it’s because they feel these issues are not being addressed. The anger is probably more directed at McCarthy than Keogh or anyone else. After all, he’s Boss and he never misses the chance to let us know.
Mick’s done a great job overall, we all surely agree on that? It doesn’t mean we have to be sheep and not form our own opinions, though. They’d have loved that during the Bhatti era. Trouble is, we’d be long dead by now.
Everyone agrees we need unity at this time, so why does Mick persist in gesticulating to the fans? Does this fellah go out of his way to rub-up certain sections of the fabase? Some may call it passion for the job, but I call it stupidity. He’s a good bloke at heart, I know that, but fatally flawed when it comes to PR.
It aint just the Wolves fans who need to look at themselves; Mick does, too. Pity some of you lot don’t tell HIM that as fast as you are to criticise your own supporters. If you hadn’t worked it out, Mick’s divided the fans over the past 3 years, or am I the only one to see that?

I didn’t hear any booing Tuesday & I agree in fact I was one of those who gave a sarcastic clap & cheer when Keogh went off, but that was aimed at McCarthy for playing him in the first place!!!!
But what you will never, ever see or hear is McCarthy coming out & admitting he was wrong to start with him, which is a real poor quality in a manager.
The fact is Nathan is that Keogh missed 3 sitters, ABSOLUTE SITTERS!!!
Along with the nes he has missed lately against Bristol City & Reading (admittedly the flag went up to save his blushes) you have to admit that he is starting to cost us points & he frustrates the fans who pay good money & the sooner people realise that the better, especially McCarthy & the blind faith shown in him has to stop.
Big Chris HAS to return to the starting line up for at least the next 5 games to get him back scoring goals, it would take Keogh til the end of next season to score the amount big Chris has got already!!!!!
I still fancy us to turn Cov over tomorrow, no matter what surprises McCarthy decides to spring
Keep the faith

Well now, a few points, most of which have already been made:
Nathan, it is counterproductive to boo players but as pointed out here, and I AM in the South bank, there was NO booing on Tuesday.
When we see a player who can’t challenge, seemingly can’t shoot and basically bottles it inside the area it is frustrating when we can see a game slipping away, all it does is give the opposing team faith and confidnece.
Keogh would be better played in Midfield, he is quick and does pull defenders away and there pressure of scoring wouldn’t affect him. Either that or put him out on loan to get him lots of experience whilst not jeopardising each Wolves match.
MM, why do you: 1. start him and 2. leave him on for too long when he’s clearly worn out? This then frustrates the fans and the jeers start? Counter productive for all.
Don’t get me wrong, it ain’t just Keogh, and I was at St Andrews three weeks ago and he had a blinder, maybe it was becuase we were away and not infront of 20000 wolves fans?
MM has done a great job with no real money and I admire and thank him for that but lets face it, we’re only league leaders through some very lucky results for Wolves and some unlucky results for others.
And MM, don’t forget, the crowd, although not the club’s only income, is the bread and butter money that’s regular so don’t p**s us off with patronising, condescending insults.

Theyv lost 8,000 average just over the kevin keegan ordeal.
Wolves are fortunate to still get a 23,000 average.
Like i said erlia….. Why is it not being mentioned that even after his dreadful performance… as he went off the pitch the wolves faithfull cheered ”Keoghh Keoghh”

Keogh’s cause is not helped by the persistence of some team mates in hitting long balls up for him to head, when heading is not his forte. They need to play it to his feet.
However, he does not seem to chase ‘lost causes’ like he did when he first came to Wolves. I would love to see him return to harassing the opposition by winning loose balls that he shouldn’t get anywhere near.
As for his shooting, his goal against Watford suggests that he is quite capable of scoring when he has time to control the ball before shooting, so I am not totally convinced that lack of confidence causes him to sometimes pass when he should shoot. I wonder if he needs coaching and advice about his decision making in front of goal (when to pass/shoot), if such things can be coached or taught?
I thought MM was very pro-active with his substitutions in the first half of the season, often giving substitutes a quarter or half an hour to make an impact. Since Christmas, he seems to be slower to make substitutions, not always leaving players enough time to make a difference. This is my impression, but I don’t know whether it is supported by the statistics about times of substitutions.

While I think Keogh isn’t good enough, he just has not progessed since joining us, my problem is with the bloke who continues to start matches with him, then chooses to play the lad out of position, when we had a winger on the bench.
I have tried to defend the pair of them over the season in many pubs & posts on here, but, I have to say I think the manager is starting to feel the pressure & is overcomplicating things.
Unfortunately I know what colour shirt they both wear, but I don’t have to be happy about it.

By diminishing a great player like Keogh in saying that “the odd nice flick here and there” is the only contribution he brings to the team, you are only showing to everybody the low level of your knowledge in the game of football.
Do you really think that a celebrated manager like Mick McCarthy would insist to play a footballer who has so little to contribute or is it perhaps you who have something to learn about the game?

I do wonder at times is there anything that will please certain sections of the Wolves fan-base. I suspect that there is not a manager in Britain good enough for them, who they would not try to tear to pieces if results turned against them. The anti-Mccarthy brigade have been waiting for this all season-even when we were flying high! I am conscious of an anti-Irish feeling too-see poster 7 above. You hear it in the crowd ,too,in relation to both McCarthy and Keogh at games from time to time. The comments and shouts would be construed as racist if they related to colour!I noted Ward being attacked in a few posts lately also. Odd,since I think he has been a remarkable success this season and Jarvis plays so much better with Ward behind him than anyone else. But there again he is Irish!

Were missing the point here. The real area of concern is the goalkeeping issue.A shotstopper we have, but the inability to judge crosses and his complete lack of confidence in this department should be of real concern to us all.A change needed please mick.

104 – i know he’s not scoring, but there’s no need to shoot keogh !!

With regards to “keoghgate” or “collinsgate” the simplest answear to the problem is that when they are not doing the job properly they should be removed from the team-simple.If MM picks them when he should not have we must support them while the game is in progress but we have the right to let MM know where not happy hence the reaction on tuesday when Keogh was replaced.
Whatever ever the team tommorow we need to raise the roof at the Ricoh!!!!!
WE ARE WOLVES!!!!!

103.)BULLY BULLY, ok continue to see the worst in one of our young wolves players who is only trying to do his best for the club and is lacking alot of confidence infront of goal…
… im sure your support will help him lots.
Yes he has missed a few sitters but he’s not a natural goal scorer and never will be when theres supporters like you who go “home and away” proberly just to get on his case.
I hope he starts now and bags a hattrick then you can come on here, lie, and tell everyone how you supported him through this.

All Keogh contributed to the Norwich game was the a nice flick here and there. He was useless.
And as for Mick McCarthy being a ‘celebrated manager’ as you put it. Celebrated for what exactly? Mick is a stubborn as a mule and will not admit that playing Keogh is a big mistake.
I don’t claim to be the guru of football but when it comes to Keogh.. I have eyes. Perhaps you need to open yours?

My 2 bobs worth…………..
We are TOP of the table with 15 to play so what on earth has MM got wrong on the field?? Im a proud Wolves fan of 40 years, former season ticket holder going back to the bad old days of Chorley.
Fickle fans is what we have and they are not needed at the molineux. If they want to jeer and boo they should sit in their arm chairs at home and complain to the tv. When you have a go at a lad who has pulled on the teams colours you are having a go at the whole team and in turn having a negative impact on that team.Fans have a job to do, motivate the team, if you want to boo and complain stay at home because the club does not need or want SUPPORTERS like you.

Running about putting in a shift are not enough Keough is and always will be a lower league player
He does not have the skill or the basic football brain to deserve a wolves shirt.
Yet alone the number 9 he sullied last year.
All you have to do s match up goal to game ratios if thats enough match up Iwelumos and Vokes off the bench.I rest my case.

This is for Andy Keogh;
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;
If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build ‘em up with wornout tools;
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on”;
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings – nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run –
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man my son!

Put your self in Hennessy’s boots. Would you feel confident with a defence that fails to pick up players. He has to keep is one eye on the ball and one eye on his own players. M.M tinkers from one week to another, familiarity with each others’ play is essential.Players are left with no confidence and tyhat shows on the field of play
I will repeat from previous blogs that most of the Wolves team cannot control and pass the ball. The midfield players, who ever they are, demonstrate week in and week out, that they very poor at passing to their colleagues and when they do think about it, the opposition are back marking players. This has been going on for two seasons or more and it has yet to be rectified. So, what are the coaches doing, and, more to the point can you see Wolves competing in the Premier league?
Andy Keogh’s problem is not his abilty, it is because he has a mop of blonde hair. My suggestion is have a brown couling and you will not be noticed. Beckham will always be noticed, just as our own Billy Wright or Ron Flowers were in the past. At West Ham, Collins is noticed due to his hair colour. Perhaps those who boo take note that most of the Wolves team only come to watch and if the ball comes to them where they are standing, then they may or may not participate. At least the likes of Keogh, Blake and Kightly run about.
So, stop booing the players, boo those responsible if you must boo.

Our problems are not related to goal scoring. Its the goals against that is the problem. Wether anyone is good enough to play for the first team or not is not our decision but I do want to see every player that pulls on the old gold give 110% for the cause.
Are the boo boys helping the team get promoted? NO. If you not happy with the teams performance stay at home, not happy with the manager organise a protest. But keep your frustrations at bay during the game. The supporters job is to lift the players during the game not destroy them. The rest of the team must be wondering when will it be their turn. They have enough pressure to deal with during those 90mins without their own supporters turning against them.Lets see Molineux turned into a place where the opposition dreads us. Our support is worth a goal start if we raise the roof. Lets do it for the team instead of bagging them! They will be judged and rightly so if we do not earn promotion.

it’s about time somebody stood up for the fans. A mass of 25000 fans have a very limited vocabulary; essentially they can boo or cheer and those two options have to cover everthing from they think of managers decisions, selections, strategies and player performances. if there was any booing it was probably directed as much at Mick as keogh for 1. choosing a player who should not be first choice given the players available and 2. then putting him out of position on the wing when the substitution was made. Keogh simply cannot play there and it only serves to drag his confidence down. this is just another example of many bad decisions that mick has made this year. We have not used the transfer window well and if the manager persists in his behaviour i fear it will cost us our promotion. last time we were in this position too many people were in denial and in the end we finsihed 3rd and did not go up. perhaps this time we should listen to those voices sounding a warning rather than putting our heads in the sand and living in denial, those people who don’t go and just look at a table, please keep your opinions to yourselfs as your uniformed and to be honest don’t know what you’re talking about.

GOOD GRIEF, HOW MANY OF YOU LOT WERE ACTUALLY AT THE NORWICH GAME? NOT MANY JUDGING BY THE RIDICULOUS POSTS!!!!
READ THIS:
1. There was NO booing.
2. There was NO booing.
3. There was NO booing.
Penny dropped, yet? That’s right, NO BOOING.
Now read this:
1. The fans applauded Keogh’s subbing because they were cheesed off with MICK McCARTHY!
2. The fans applauded Keogh’s subbing because they were cheesed off with MICK McCARTHY!
3. The fans applauded Keogh’s subbing because they were cheesed off with MICK McCARTHY!
Now, hands up those that keep talking about booing when it never happened. Admit it, you WERE NOT AT THE GAME, were you? Next time, try attending the game instead of reading papers, listening to radio phone-ins AND JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON.
