National award for Hagley car club

Hagley Car Club has received a prestigious national award for the second year running.

The Norrie Galbraith Memorial Trophy is awarded by the sport’s national body, the Hillclimb & Sprint Association, to the club which hosts the ‘best organised round’ of the British Hill Climb Championship.

The event which gained the award was the June 2008 meeting held at Loton Park, near Shrewsbury, and this is the second year in succession that hosts Hagley & District Light Car Club have taken the trophy.

Club president Tony Millard, himself a keen competitor in his OMS racing car, said: “I am delighted that the hard work and dedication required to stage this event has been rewarded yet again by the national organisers.

“It is true recognition indeed for all the voluntary efforts put in by our club members and officials.

“We are hoping to make 2009 our hat-trick,” he added.

Loton Park hosts the first round of this year’s British Hill Climb Championship -Êwhich covers 34 events throughout England, Scotland, Ireland and the Channel Islands – over the Easter holiday.

This prestigious national event attracts an entry of more than 140 competitors from throughout the UK competing in a wide variety of cars, ranging from modified saloons and Caterham sportscars to V8 powered single seater racing cars.

The event will take place on Sunday and Monday April 12/13.
