Heskey’s Villa silverware dream
Saturday 31st January 2009, 10:20AM GMT.
New striker Emile Heskey has revealed his Villa silverware dream – but first he plans to help Martin O’Neill’s men seal a Champions League spot.
Heskey, who was part of the Liverpool side which won a UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup treble in 2001, joined from Wigan on a three-and-a-half year contract last week.
The England hitman hopes he can add to his trophy cabinet at Villa Park – but top of his agenda now is helping Martin O’Neill’s men finish the job of finishing in the top four.
Heskey said: “The top four usually looks the same. But at Villa we want to finish as high as possible and just keep the pressure on everyone. Up to now I have achieved quite a bit and you always want to carry on winning trophies.
“Finishing in the top four would be up there with a lot of my achievements and then hopefully in the next three years we can actually win something.”
The England striker sees little change in the O’Neill who mentored him at Leicester but believes he is a better player than the one the Foxes sold to Liverpool for £11million.
Heskey said: “I am a different player to when the gaffer had me before and he sees that. I see the game differently.”
