Wolves blog: The Bright Side
Friday 30th January 2009, 8:57AM GMT.
Wolves blogger Nathan Lloyd reiterates what is needed for the team to press on and stresses the need for a win ahead of the visit of Watford.
I’ve just double checked the Championship league table and no, Wolves are not in a relegation dog fight, we are still leading the pack.
You wouldn’t think so though, if you listen to some of the gloom and negativity that seems to be gripping a lot of Wolves fans at present.
You may point out that in recent weeks that I have perhaps come across a little bit melancholy in my blogs.
Well my biggest concerns have been – and still are – that manager Mick McCarthy hasn’t yet addressed the right areas in the transfer window and that our leaky defence (or defender) is costing us dear.
But I have every faith that Mick will understand the urgency to get it right and bring in a centre back that really could be the difference, between a title challenge and Wolves fading back into the play-off pack.
Neill Collins’ performance against Reading doesn’t need raking over again. He made a couple of vital errors and has paid the price.
If Mick can sign someone of the quality of Hearts Christophe Berra or Chelsea’s Michael Mancienne before February 2, then Collins will hopefully get back to bench warming duties for the rest of the season.
We took the game to Reading in the second half and they certainly didn’t look as good as they did at Molineux, when they gave us a right thumping. Back then I said that if we finish a place behind Reading we would be promoted, although I probably didn’t need to be Mystic Meg to work that one out!
It seems we had almost lost the game before we kicked off at the Madejski Stadium. Mick had come out and foolishly lauded over the current Reading team, saying they were better than the Brazil side of 1970 – or words to that effect.
Add that to starting the game with both Karl Henry and Nigel Quashie in midfield and I think it was obvious that Wolves were perhaps giving too much respect to Steve Coppell’s team.
We did deserve a point but we didn’t get it, so we have to forget the Reading game and focus on the next two home games – a wonderful opportunity to re-establish a lead at the top of the table.
Although we have had a recent stutter, Birmingham by all accounts have been pitiful and their home attendances have reflected their current boring style of play.
Blues could well find themselves slipping back into the pack and their place taken by someone on the rails coming into form, as so often happens towards the end of the Championship season. Fingers crossed eh?
We all know that from now until the end of the season that it’s probably not going to pretty. We might well have to grind out wins and draws.
I feel we need a fit Chris Iwelumo to come back in and lead the line. Andy Keogh is just too powder-puff for me. Yes he offers something a bit different, but he doesn’t score enough and we can’t afford passengers at this crucial time of the season.
Why doesn’t Mick go back to playing David Jones and Henry in the middle, a system that served us so well earlier in the season, when we were putting numerous wins together at ease?
I’d been saying for a while that we should also bring Mark Davies back from Leicester and stick him straight in the team.
We haven’t seen disloyalty in a Wolves player like that since Henri Camara. Loyalty in football is a rare commodity these days and Mark obviously didn’t have the patience or the will to come back to Wolves and fight for his place.
I have it on good authority that he has tripled his wages at Bolton, compared to the contract that was on the table at Molineux.
So although he has bottled it, I wish him good luck and like Liverpool’s Robbie Keane and Everton’s Joleon Lescott, I will track his career past Molineux with interest as I’m sure most Wolves fans will, although some may not admit it.
I also don’t think Mick did anything wrong with the transfer. What could he do? At the end of the day, we are top of the league and Mark Davies has had no influence on that position.
Anyway, Watford and Norwich are the priority now. Two massive home games against teams who have amassed 60 points between them this season, compared to the 59 of Wolves. Their fans really do have something to worry about!
There were glimpses against Reading that Wolves are starting to find some form again.
Jody Craddock will probably be back in the heart of defence and who knows, he could be that good that Mick might not need to shell out £3m on Berra or grovel with Phil Scolari to bring Mancienne back in.
I would like to see Iwelumo back in and Jones in the middle, don’t think either will happen though.
With Birmingham facing a couple of tricky away fixtures and Reading away at in-form QPR, a couple of back-to-back home wins could really see the Wolves promotion train back on track.
We still need to believe. We might be all biting our finger nails as we get nearer the finish line, but being a Wolves fan would be boring if we had the league sewn up by now.
The opening day of last season and the Hornets scored two late goals, which got our league campaign off to a whimper. Fast forward to this Saturday and even though Watford are having a bit of a mini-revival with seven goals in two wins, I still fully expect Wolves to give them a 3-0 pounding.
By the time we play Norwich on Tuesday night, our squad will be completed for the rest of the season, except maybe for an unforeseen emergency loan player before May.
Perhaps I’m being over optimistic, but I can see us scoring another bagful against the Canaries, as news rolls in that Preston have beaten Reading and Palace have turned over Birmingham.
Enjoy the two games and cheer up. We are after all, top of the league!

Just a comment on Mark Davies– You mention disloyalty. I don’t believe he’s been disloayal at all. Fair enough he was a first team regular, but he wasn’t and under this manager, no one gets a chance. The fact that Mad Mick was going to play Potter ahead of recalling Mark Davies says it all. The fact that Mad Mick, when he knew that wolves had major midfield problems didn’t bother going to watch a player winning rave reviews, again says it all.
No, sorry, the blame lies firmly at the door at Mad Mick. He does it all the tine. Apparantly, wolves have a reserve team so I believe, but of course, no wolves fans will ever see any of the players because Mad Mick only plays the players he has ‘seen’ playing.

I am amazed how we havn’t signed anybody so far this month other than the two loanees.
You’d of thought with the resources we have along with Moxey, who in my opinion is really good at his job and handling transfers, we would of had transfer targets come the start of December and quickly pushed them through as soon as the transfer window opened.
This stat says it all tho n Mick needs to see it…
Doncaster have conceeded fewer than us.

Good Blog Mr Lloyd. The Watford game will be very pivotal as if we lose the panic will set in, but if we win and Blues or Reading slip up it will be all cheer again. Even with our shaky run of form I have to say we still look bigger contenders than Blues for Promotion. Collins in my opinion isn’t good enough and I think even if we pay over the top for Berra or Mancienne it could end up being our saviour.

Totally agree with the Keogh issue. He is not physically strong enough for this league. He would probably do better in the Prem. All we as Wolves fans can do is keep the faith and hope we get back on track asap before this mini slump turns into a crisis. The powers of positive thinking are now required and this is where we find our whether MM has what it takes. After all we are by far the greatest team….

I think Coventry will have big influence on the promotion race! They play the top 3 all at home!

1. Seriously?
Davies had been out injured for 2 years. He went out on loan to get fitness back. With all due respect to league 1, the pace is completely different and so is the quality. Potter has proven championship quality as has been seen in previous seasons even when played out of position on the right or next to olofinjana. He’s not world class but for the championship he’s alright.
Were you at every leicester game watching to see if McCarthy showed up? Hate to break it to you but Wolves have players called scouts that do that for him.
I don’t have a clue what you even mean by that point. I’m fairly sure the last reserve fixture had this squad:
Higgs, Woolley, D. Ward, Craddock, Shackell, Friend, Gleeson, Salmon, Melbourne, Reid, Vokes, Iwelumo, Bennett, D. Davis, Hemmings, Bailey, Dunleavy, Batth, Winnall.
Out of that squad I count 11 academy players, 1 reserve keeper, 2 players coming back from injury and 5 fringe players. Please tell me how that is not giving anyone a chance?

Sign Berra, sign Davenport, then we dont need Mancienne. Yes Mancienne is a very good defender, but looked average against birmingham at home and avergae against QPR away, Stearman was class against the Blues and QPR so why waste 3million on Mancienne when clearly a premiership proven defender like Davenport, and by far Hearts’ best player Berra, would be better.
Kightly needs a few games on the bench to regain his desire and hunger on the pitch.
He needs to play Kyle Reid, because he too is pacey, and works hard and played really well against Middlesborough a Premiership opposition.
I think Neil gets a lot of stick but does make school boy errors. Yes I hold my head in my hands when it happens, but can only feel sorry for him. Because he plays well when he plays, and every so often, he makes a silly little mistake, nobody is perfect, even in the premiership it happens, but for me the mistakes that the other team mates make, doesnt end up costing us games. I like Collins, he is a hardworker, and puts in his shift, if it was me, I’d send him loan if we get Davenport and Berra, get him constant football week in week out, and we might just see an improvement.
And for all the Albion fans out there, next season is our turn in the Premier League. But this time we will show you how its done.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!

Nathan- I am with you except for you comments on MK-A young player who has never been given a chance under MM-He is not disloyal true supporters would not give that aspect a thourght.
I wish him well.
You could comment on our YA and the players who have been sent packing by MM. At least under previouse managers out “Young Local ” were given a chance.
MM seems to ignore the “A” players. He may see then has cash in the attic to deal on the tranfer market.
Once more in the Tranfer Window Wolves are showing their real colours-Lets see a bit of commitment in the closing days that see a K. Miller like signings that will get us up.
You are postive in your closing para’s thats the way to go I expect us to brush aside Watford and we move again into a positive drive to keep the top spot.

The worrying thing about the Reading game is
1) Collins and the desperate need to shore up the defence 2) Midfield surely Quashie is too similar to Henry so tactically MM got it wrong 3) Upfront Keogh and Iwelumo couldn’t hit a barn door from 2 yards and they are both preferred choices to Vokes. Can’t see iwelumo scoring again this season and can never see Keogh scoring

Nathan, regarding your comment about the ‘gloom and negativity that seems to be gripping a lot of Wolves fans at present’, some of us have long memories and the mood reflects the numerous times we have looked liked making the ‘promised land’ only to fail dismally at the season’s end!
We are, for once, in pole position to win the Championship and failure to do so will bring out the ‘you’ve let us down again’ banner, which surely no one wants to see ever again?
The latest news has us ‘buying’ Davenport from West Ham, our 3rd signing from them in less than a month should it actually happen. Not my idea of the player we need but time is getting short and we need somebody to shore up that dodgy defence.
As for Davies, well classy he may be but if he didn’t want to repay Wolves for the time & trouble taken and for paying his salary while he was injured, then good riddance, Bolton should be just the perfect club for him!!!
Anyway, heres hoping we now go on a good winning run starting tomorrow and to finally put to bed any lingering doubts about promotion!

Perhaps nr 5 is not aware that Davies played for 20 minutes in PL the other day?
As rumors go MM was not going to give a chance to Davies to brake into the team this season and Davies wanted to get a chance to play. The wages had nothing to do with it. End of.
Watford are scoring for fun for the moment. They have two central european players in good form and a new CB who seem to be a very good signing. Why didn’t Wolves scouts spot Mike Williamsson?
We can and should win these next 2 games no doubt. As for the Quashie/Henry situation. Drop Henry as Quashie played well enough to keep his place. As for Berra and Davenport possible transfers. Neither are worth £3 million and we will not go that high!
Anyway with Blues playing Sheff Weds and Palace and Reading playing QPR and Preston, they will be dropping points and it is up to us to roll up our sleeves and go on another run!

Good blog, I agree about Davies too. Loyalty?? Whats that these days………..
I have to agree with you also that there is a lot of doom and gloom at the moment when we are in fact top of the bunch. I have to admit though it hasnt felt like we are anywhere near the top for quite a while but the fact is promotion is still there for the taking. I do believe though that if we sign a decent centre back, or 2!!, we will go up, if we dont I honestly feel we will not make it……… Watford and Norwich have to be beaten. After the last 5 games these 2 are vital!!!
Anyway, up the Wolves, I hate the fact we are struggling with 3 days left to sign a defender when we all knew this ages ago, but ill be there cheering them on regardless of the doom merchants intentions.

Loyalty ???
Our client wanted to play for Wolves this season but was told by a certain manager that he would remain on loan for the rest of the season ?
He then played a very poor reserve player instead of our client and then signed a never has been on loan ?
Loyalty starts at the top !
Our client quickly realising he wasn’t in the managers plans took the only course of action available to him and he would like it noted that he would walk back to Wolves if the said manager should leave.

AK I agree is light weight and never convinces me in front of goal, if he played behind the front 2 then that I think is his preferred position which would mean sacfricing a winger.
Collins, no need to start me off again apart from saying if Wolves do not sign a solid quick centre half then the board have NO AMBITION!
Mark Davies…. MM went on record to say he has a talent and is someone who would like in his side, then sends him on loan to get fit and then wolves sell him. Sorry but if Potter and Quashie is better then him whilst he is only 20! well Wolves are mugs for letting him go. I would like to say he will be picked in the england squad is a few years time!
Apart from 2 loan signing there has not been a money buy from Wolves,,,, WHY NOT??? Last years we bought in players when we were poorer in the division places, now we are top, struggling for results and MM, MOXEY & MORGAN have not shown me any level of ambition and sign players and it always seems to take an age to get players in!
I wait on hope we sign this Berra bloke. He must be better than that Clown Collins who belongs to Billy Smart Circus!

I am sick and tired of some of our fans. Collins has made some vital errors but also scored some vital goals. I agree if berra and macienne come in he will be on the bench, but aside from his mistake he didnt let kevin doyle have a sniff. But Collins a great weapon off the bench as nobody attacks set pieces like he does. Stearman and Foley could easily play in the prem. We are top of the league against the odds and our chairman and cheif exec are working hard behind the scenes learning from the costly mistakes of the opast in letting our targets be known so other clubs with more financial clout move in. When commenting or booing at the games take this into consideration or stay away:
.Blues are reading have parachute payments
. Blues and reading have bigger transfer budgets
.Blues and Reading have bigger wage budgets

We ve put our cards on the table through desparation..to be messed about on what could turn out to be an embarrasment . Some fans of the SPL say he s ok . completely unproven at our level at a cost that was looking to spiral to 3 million . i watched charlie mulgrew playing on the tv the other day , i wish him well but he looked ok playing at that level bubutt with all respect he was no where near good enough for us . if mancienne was dead in the water then the news of callum davenport will do for me although i think there could have been an oppertunity missed at bolton with danny shittu seamingly sitting on the bench all the time . a swap for davies maybe . ?any way .. davenport would be an ok signing but wolves should take the same stance that they took when they got messed about by mcclean and pull the plug !

this is the best group of players that we have had in many a year…hungry…willing to sweat blood and tears for the shirt and above all work for each other!
Yes we are all touching cloth but now is a time for unity and togetherness! Players feed off fans positivity and are pulled down by ‘the fear factor’ that can surge round Molineux when we are not thumping teams out of sight!
We are so close to being a championship winning team yes thats right ‘Championship’ winning team! Forget your gripes about the usual suspects and get behind them for the final push……

Ref 15 Swedewolf. Our scouting system. I was a scout for WWFC for 5 years and bought in several good players, one in particluar that i wanted to bring in, I was told we dont need anymore under 15 central midfielders as we already have enough. His name Tom Huddlestone. His parents and himself we’re willing to travel and bring him to WWFC academy for training but Tony Lacey and Bob Bennett didn’t want him because they hadn’t found him. Our scouting system is poor and full of people out of contact with the modern game. So when we let one of our better academy kids go like Mark Davies where does the future of the football club lie. Chris Evans was a great academy director most off his staff then we’re past there sell by date.

I do fear that we will end up signing nobody. To my mind Reid and Quashie are token signings and will have no real impact on us.I hope that I am proven wrong! We would be up the creak without a paddle. Come on McCarthy, Moxey, Morgan less talk and more action now please! I’m glad to see some voices of reason fighting back against the “half empty” brigade.
I’m quite happy with our league position and will be happier still when our squad has been strengthened. Also, I bet supporters from other clubs wish they had a manager as mad as our Mick who has escaped this division once before and looks like he’s about to do it again.
I think with the benefit of hindsight we’re all going to look back and see these as good times.

27) It looks like the Berra deal is off. Once Wolves went in with a £2 million bid they have tried to start a dutch auction. I think other sides are not willing to up the ante as he is unproven and frankly not worth the £3 million they want.
Let’s go elsewhere but let’s be quick. Hopefully Craddock or Shackell have a good couple of games and it leaves Collins on the bench anyway. I have nothing against the player’s commitment and he puts his head in but the pace reminds me of some of our great centre backs of the past – Zelem, Herbert, Eli and Hindmarch!

Nathan, I disagree with your comments about Davies. The lad played in all the pre season friendlies and linked up well with Jones in midfield.Mick never put him on the subs bench at times when he was fit.He was even offered to Notts County on loan. He then had a month on loan at Leicester where he starred for them.Mark then came back and was told as reported by the E and S ,he could go on loan again to Leicester.Mick said at the time that he would only recall Davies if we didn’t sign anyother midfielder in Jan,otherwise he could stay at Leicester until the end of the season,ie until the end of his contract.Would you feel wanted if you were treated like that?

Oh Dear!
Mick is quoted as saying “The difference between this and the last two January windows is that it’s now harder to improve the squad”
By this is Mick admitting that he is finding it hard to find a centre half better than Collins.
I would suggest nipping down to Walsall and signing up a centre half from there. I have never seen Walsall’s centre half’s play but I’m sure it would improve us over Collins.
Bad bad management is this…unless Mick is playing the press again maybe? I hope Mick doesn’t find himself in a hotspot….Alwwwight

UNRESERVED APPOLOGIES, NATHAN, TO YOU AND THE FANS. I admit culpability and take full responsibility for what transpired at Reading.
Commenting on your blog last week, I said we only had 6 ‘throwaway’ games remaining. How could I forsee the Scottish lump would take it literally!
We now need to win 70% of our remaining games and only 5 ‘spares’. But, between the two Reading games our win ratio is less than 55%.
Surely everyone can see we must greatly improve our ability to win games. At its base equation that means conceeding fewer whilst scoring more,
Unfortunately, the goals have dried up. When we signed Iwelumo I warned (on this site) he was an early season striker and we would get nothing from him from December. It’s time to move him on like everyone else has.
What about a replacement?
Well, for me, Vokes looks like the one striker we have who could cut it in the prem..
But there is an alternative.
This time last year (again on here) I suggested that, since Collins is a potent goal threat in both penalty areas, we should eliminate the wrong ‘un and convert him to centre forward. We could do worse than try that … it has worked for us in the past.
Lets face it :
1…If he must head the ball whilst facing a goal I’d rather it was someone else’s.
2…Kightly seems to find his head with unerring and frequent accuracy. He can’t find anyone else right now.
3 Who knows, Calamity Collins might just turn into Cult Hero Collins.

I agree that we should keep things in perspective. When was the last time we led this division for so long? That proves that we have made significant progress under MM … and remember that progress is rarely, if ever, perfectly steady.
However, I have always felt uncomfortable when our managers have set points targets, because that makes it OK to lose games. According to the 92 points target we need 33 points from the remaining 51 on offer, which makes it OK to drop 19 points. I wonder whether that affects players if we are losing 2-0 with 5 minutes to go? Do they bust a gut to pull level or even try to win it or do they consciously or subconsciously write off two or three points, thinking that the target is still achievable? It may be my poor memory, but I can’t remember the last time we achieved any points target set by any of our managers! Incidentally, it is never OK to drop points!
If I remember correctly (!), the managers of the great Liverpool teams of the 70s and 80s banned all talk by player of winning the title until it had actually happened and always insisted that all they were focusing on was the next game. While long-term strategic targets, such as promotion by 2009 and World Club Champions by 2012 (if only!!!!) are important, surely the only target that the manager should ever set when the season is in progress is to win the next game and that applies to the team whether we are top, middle or bottom!

43. I fully agree. It seems that Kightly is only interested in having spats with the opposition, rather than proving himself on the pitch again. You are only as good as your last game and his performances of late have not been good enough. If we could get decent money for him I would definitely sell and buy Jonathan Walters from Ipswich.

On the vexed subject of Mark Davies.
Strange that fans who once were calling for his inclusion, are calling him names now he has gone.
A 20 year old footballer with talent and potential needs to ge given the opportunity to be as good as he could possibly be.
It should be obvious to everyone he was not going to get that opportunity here under The Mick.
I wish him well.
He has gone to join his original mentor Chris Evans ( the first to have been forced out of the club by the aforementioned unmentionable).
Not good enough for Him but good enough for the Prem.! Davies has got to the Prem. before we have.
IF we do make it this time Mark will still be in the Prem. when we come straight back down.

51.Seven goals 14 yes fourteen assists how the hell can you advocate selling star players. The debate is all about Buying extra quality to supplement the Good players we have.Collins Keogh and some of the fringe players need to be offloaded and replaced with better but certainly not Kites,Jarvis.SEB,Vokes etc.

BERRA IS RUBBISH..AND WOULD BE A WASTE OF GOOD MONEY. RANGERS OR CELTIC WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY SIGNED HIM BY NOW IF HE WAS ANY GOOD.
AH! SO MICK’S NOW DECIDED TO RAID WEST HAMS BARGAIN BASEMENT RATHER THAN SUNDERLANDS. CHANGE IS AS GOOD AS A REST I SUPPOSE.
AND AS FOR WATFORD..ON A WINNING RUN AND SCORING GOALS, YEP BEAT THEM NO PROBLEM..LMAO I CAN SEE US LOSING THIS ONE TOO!!

COLLINS IS GREAT = Terry”Changed is Name”Baggie
Just incase you lot were wondering. Just had it confirmed. What an idiot you are Terry. You do need to get a life mate, I know it must be difficult making friends in your stage of life but come on Terry you can do better than that!

Changing the subject for a minute from Collins-it seems to me that when Kightly first came he played as a winger taking people on on the outside like jarvis does. When did we last see him doing that? He likes to cut inside now and plays clever one twos with SEB. He has more assists to his name than anyone.
I thought Reid had a decent game the other day so why not play him on the wing and let Kites play second striker. Or give Vokes a proper run. Uwelumo is a liability at the moment as he gives a foul every time he touches the ball. AK is just not doing it.
I don’t think we are full of doom and gloom but the writing has been on the wall for 6 to 8 weeks that not everything is ok with the team and we need to strengthen and freshen up. Lets hope Monday produces something good for us.

Never ever buy anything or any footballer from Scotland. Kenny Miller is an example.

Had to smile at your reference to the negativity of wolves fans :-You wouldn’t think so though, if you listen to some of the gloom and negativity that seems to be gripping a lot of Wolves fans at present.
seem to remeber a week or so ago the most negative blog ever on here by you!!!!
Having said that, early season , fast flowing football, goals and wins, with jones in the team, we need a passer in the middle , someone to move the ball out wide quickley before the wingers have 3 men marking them, henry, Quashie , and edwards when he came on , couldnt find a man in gold and took so long to get the ball under control that the opportunity had long gone,
i honestly believe that if we had just invested in a quality playmaker this window then we would be home and hosed.

Nathan I agree entirely about Keogh and Collins. Triers they may be, but they lack the class to get us out of this league. Mark Davies, however must, I feel, have crossed MM,and once crossed there is no way back!!How else do you explain the lack of first starts he has had? Especially when he was playing so well at leicester, and has now gone to a premiership club. Give them an extra shout from me during the next two home games.Stu and Dave’s dad.

58. Can’t believe you had to get it confirmed by someone else. Hahahahaha – clown.

I very doubt Davies is on triple money at Bolton to what the lad was offered here at Wolves; just because we hear the term ‘good money’ doesn’t means 20 grand plus. No one at wolves is going to be on that kind money and Bolton aren’t going to be paying that to an unknown player at Premier League level.
And if you were Davies, Nathan would you put up with what was happening to the player. He played well for Leicester, proved his fitness and came back too find Potter leaving only to see another defensive type midfielder arriving. He left for football-reasons that’s my view.
Also, people are holding on to the ‘top of league’ status a bit too much. We are not as good some believe and never have been. We are not exactly playing like Swansea City, Reading or Burnley, would wolves scored 3 goals against Tottenham?
Of course, I do hope we that win promotion but if some fans think we are a prem team in waiting then a culture shock is only around the corner if we do and hopefully get promoted. Onwards and upwards.

62. Spot on. We need a quality playmaker/attacking midfielder aswell as a centre back. Apart from David Jones no other central midfielder at the club can pass a ball forwards or pass full stop!

43 – agree with your comments fully
45 – you’re right . It has worked before. Even back in the 60s when Dougie Woodfield was converted to centre-forward in an injury crisis.
Collins gets blamed when he makes mistakes that other players get away with. As I’ve stated in another thread, averaged out over the season, in their respective positions, Collins is ahead of Kightly in performance terms. That may make uncomfortable reading for some fans but Kightly has let us down on a number of occasions this season and has been directly responsible for a number of goals against us with his wayward and careless passing. Do I still think he’s a good player? Of course he is – but not a great one yet.
Please let’s keep persepective on the individual players’ performances
People criticise Mick for picking Neil Collins and Stephen Ward and are very isnulting of them, calling them – amongst other things ‘Mick’s favourites’ The same people don’t criticise Mick for picking Kightly and Foley but aren’t they therefore ‘Mick’s favourites’ as well? Please be even-handed.
Now is the time to support the team and the club. We are top of the league and have had a bad spell. Show me any club anywhere in any league that doesn’t.
Calls to sack the manager of a team top of the league are making our club a laughing stock. Let’s get nehind the club. PLEASE??????
Best Wishes
David

65. Neil… I know exactly how much Mark Davies is earning per week and it isn’t far off the £20k mark. And to be honest, although we all have wolves running through our blood, would we stay at our current employers if someone came in and offered to triple our wages?

The Mark Davies story has a familiar ring
1. We want to keep a player (or cash in on him) – sign a three or four year contract during the summer but certainly at least 10 months before the contract expires. Make him feel wanted.
2. Not sure whether we want to keep him because he’s been injured a lot, or isn’t scoring, or not a cert for the team. Don’t offer a contract until you discover he’s ok and someone else wants him. ie don’t make him feel wanted. Sound familiar (Keith Andrews, Kenny Miller….). Then announce “Of course we want him and have offered a fantastic contract” but neglect to say when i.e. too late. Player reads the runes and knows he has to go because the club’s loyalty to the player has been clearly stated.
This isn’t Mick – it’s been consistent since Moxey has been at the club.
Good luck Mark, not that you need it.
