Stourbridge’s Rob Norton has warned David Dolan to expect a long night when the two do battle for the British cruiserweight title.

The champion makes his first defence of the title against the former heavyweight from Sunderland, a formidable foe with just one blemish on his record after 12 fights – and that was to Martin Rogan in the ‘Prizefighter’ final.

Dolan has had Norton in his sights ever since the 36-year-old won the vacant title after a 10-month absence from the ring, beating Micky Steeds over 12 gruelling rounds in October.

The fight,  at the Aston Villa Events Centre next Friday night, promises to be a war – one that Norton is confident of winning.

He said: “I am feeling good ahead of the fight and am very confident, although I know David will be a tough opponent. It is up to me to out box him and if the knockout comes naturally, then it comes.

“But I wouldn’t have thought this fight will be over quickly. I will certainly be in the right condition to go the 12 rounds if I have to, as I proved when I won the title from Steeds.

“Every fight I have got in front of me is the biggest fight of my career. This fight is very important to me and I want to have a long stint as the British champion.”
