Kidderminster manager Mark Yates believes reaching the FA Trophy final would be just reward for his players as York come to Aggborough.

Harriers’ take on their Blue Square rivals in the third round of ‘the non-league FA Cup,’ for a place in the quarter-finals and £7,000 prize money.

They must do so without cup-tied defender Craig Armstrong, with Lee Baker set to reclaim his place at left-back after being dropped for the last two games.

York have bigger problems than that, with three out of their four first choice midfielders cup-tied, meaning former Aggborough mainstay Simon Russell is in contention to start.

Yates is confident his side can get past Martin Foyle’s outfit, so much so that he is daring to dream of reaching the showpiece Wembley final for the second time as boss.

He said: “What is at the end of the competition is massive for any player, especially at our level. York is a tough one, but we are at home and we have beaten them already this season. We know we can beat them, on our day we can beat anybody.

“The players here have worked extremely hard this season. We haven’t got the biggest budget in the world, we haven’t got the biggest playing squad in the world, but we have done ever so well, so to reach the final would be a fantastic reward for them.

“I am desperate for them to taste that and experience that – but there is a hell of a long way to go.”
