Albion urged to chase Mulumbu
Thursday 29th January 2009, 11:34AM GMT.
Albion have been encouraged to step up their pursuit of Congo star Youssuf Mulumbu after Paris Saint Germain confirmed they would consider loaning the midfielder.
PSG manager Paul Le Guen would be willing to loan the 22-year-old, but he has played down Baggies’ hopes of a double swoop involving France international striker Peguy Luyindula.
Albion are keeping tabs on both players, as they weigh up their options for the crucial final days of the transfer window.
Le Guen has moved to clarify his position over Mulumbu, who has expressed his desire to try his luck in England.
The PSG boss had refused Mulumbu permission to travel to England for trials with Premier League clubs, but he is now willing to let the defensive midfielder leave on loan until his contract expires in the summer.
But he played down the prospect of former Lyon and Marseille striker Luyindula leaving the Parc des Princes this month.
The 29-year-old has 18 months remaining on his contract and Le Guen is reluctant to sell him before the end of the season, or loan him for the remainder of this campaign.
Albion boss Tony Mowbray is keen to add at least one more new face to his squad before Monday’s transfer deadline. A defensive midfielder is now his main priority, with captain Jonathan Greening ruled out for around another month with a knee injury.
The Baggies are also waiting for news of their appeal against referee Rob Styles’ decision to send off Paul Robinson for his challenge on Park Ji-sung against Manchester United on Tuesday.
An FA panel was due to hear Robinson’s case after an appeal was submitted.
Secretary Darren Eales said: “From Mr Styles’ viewpoint, the incident may have seemed worthy of a red card, but we believe the video evidence we have compiled proves otherwise.
“We feel it was no more than a 50-50 challenge between two very committed players.”
The left-back could miss the Premier League meetings with Hull and Newcastle, as well as the FA Cup replay at Burnley.

If the red card is recinded, I think action should also be taken against Rob Styles, but not relegate him to the lower divisions, why make them suffer for the poor job he does in the Prem.
I think he should, like players he gets banned, suffer the same fate and serve a three match ban.
I also think his conduct should in future be monitered, especially when refereeing matches involving the bigger clubs.

It wouldn’t be the end of the world if Robo was out for 3 games, I think Cech would do a great job and it is the only way he is going to get a chance to prove himself.
Nothing against Robo, I just feel so much for Cech. I also feel for Dean K, who as to keep watching the mistakes Carson keeps making.
While I’m at it I also feel for Dorrans, he could of been given a chance in the 2 fa cup matches, you never know unless they are tried what they can do.
God who’d want to be a manager!

perth baggie i echo your comments, i would love to see cech given a chance, dont understand why zuiverloon played wide right against united when their were more than adequate players on the bench whose actual position is wide right. maybe it was for extra support against ronaldo but it was his running in behind defenders not running at that was the problem.
As for kiely, carson is prone to quite fequent mistakes but he is also prone to quite frequent moments of brilliance.

Dont get me wrong here guys, but I think if TM could convince MON to part with Marlon Harewood on loan for the rest of the season, with a view to buying him if he finds some success with the deal, it would be good for both clubs and the player.
Harewood is out of favour at Villa anyway (though I cant understand why) and if he does click, I think 3 mill or even less would buy him, if he flops then send him back.

Rob Styles – What doen’t help Mr Styles is when he makes incorrect decisions (we all do at some stage – just he seems to make more than others and therefore becomes more controversial)he has a arrogant and smarmy approach to players and situations, he winds so many people up. The Refs organisation must get inundated with comments/complaints about him. I feel he should either quit and try refereeing in the Hampshire league (get back to Waterlooville Rob) or be pushed by his superiors, the sooner the better. Message to Rob – Your performance in the West Brom/Man Utd game was awful and embarrasing, hang your whistle up mate.

AND – What about the goals difference?
Would we have lost by 5 goals if Robbo had not been sent off??

I hope he’s an impact player as we haven’t had anything decent up front apart from Jay Simpson all season.
