Yates challenge ahead of Histon visit

yates.jpegKidderminster manager Mark Yates has urged his side to “get going again” in the promotion clash with second-placed Histon at Aggborough.

Harriers have suffered a mini-blip with back-to-back Blue Square Premier defeats in the last two games, after just one loss over five league games in December.

But Yates’ men are still well in the play-off shake up – only goal difference is keeping them out of fifth and fourth place – and, with another promotion candidate in town, a meeting on a ground where they have lost just twice all season is a chance to bounce back.

The two sides have yet to met this term but Harriers failed to register a win over the then-promoted side in 2007/08, defeat at Bridge Road followed by a 1-1 draw at Aggborough.

For Yates, it is just about responding to Saturday’s disappointing 1-0 defeat at struggling Barrow.

He said: “We didn’t play badly at Barrow. We just didn’t put the ball in the back of the net, which is what it is all about ultimately. We didn’t get what we deserved on the day, which sometimes happens.

“Histon is a chance to make amends. When you have suffered a defeat, it’s nice to be able to do something about it on a Tuesday night. We have had a couple of bad results, so we are glad to be playing at home, where we have one of the best records in the country.

“We have just got to get going again – there is no point dwelling on Saturday.”
