Walsall want to keep Palmer

chris-palmer.jpegWalsall have confirmed they want to keep Chris Palmer by offering him a contract extension but rumours still persist about his future.

The 25-year-old’s deal runs out on Saturday and reports have emerged Palmer had been placed on the transfer list, after talks with footballing director Paul Taylor.

But he has yet to sign an extension to his deal and could walk away from the club for free at the end of the month.

Palmer, who has been in contract talks for several weeks, will travel with the Saddlers to Swindon.

The club will look to take up the option they have on Palmer’s current deal and keep him until the end of the season.

A club spokesman said: “We will be looking to exercise the option to extend his current contract.”

The former Derby County man has made 28 appearances for the Saddlers, scoring once, since signing on a free transfer last summer.

Palmer is one of three first team players who’s deals are almost up with Marco Reich and Paul Boertien still expected to leave, giving manager Chris Hutchings a huge selection problem.

It is now no surprise we can’t attract good players to the club when who read who is in charge of the players negotiating contracts. I read with some surprise that Paul Taylor is Director of football at Walsall, just look at the state of the player/club relationships when he was last with the club. He lacks any personality or any conviction for the club and it is little wonder we can’t get good lads to join the club if they do come along, like Gerard they soon have the urge to get away asp. I despair of the club now RIP Walsall FC
