The home side were in real command after Kevin Amankwaah, Simon Cox and Billy Paynter found the net inside 49 minutes.
It was only then that the Saddlers started to make a game of it and Jabo Ibehre pounced on Town defender Jerel Ifil’s slip to give them hope with 15 minutes left.
Troy Denney got another two minutes later but it was too little, too late for Saddlers.
