Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Reading 1 Wolves 0 – verdict
Tuesday 27th January 2009, 10:00PM GMT.
Neill Collins endured his worst nightmare to date after an own goal and a red card in Wolves’ defeat at second-placed Reading.
The defender put through his own net after just 61 seconds at the Madjeski Stadium, before he was sent off in stoppage time for swearing at a linesman.
In between, Andy Keogh put Wolves’ best chance wide after Matt Jarvis’ played him in, while Reading striker Noel Hunt was foiled by goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.
Wolves’ lead at the top of the Championship is cut to two points as a result.

Went to game.
Keogh was woeful. He seems to have no confidence, didn’t want to be anywhere near the ball.
Ward looked a bit shaky.
Calamity Collins – another awful goal, really poor distribution, only plus point is wins most headers.
Jarvis was superb, Kightly ok, Ebanks Blakes perked up second half, especially when Iwelumo came on. Quashie was pretty poor I thought.
Mick – you need to stop messing with the team. Lets play Henry and Jones in the midfield, and Ebanks Blake and Iwelumo up front – this was the winning combo earlier in the season. Enough messing with midfield, playing Keogh etc.
And PLEASE INVEST before the window is up, particulary CB.

God help Collins if he looks on these message boards tomorrow morning.
Ah well 17 games left, but more importantly 5 days of the transfer window left.
Tick-tock Morgan.

Why is it we have watched Collins make mistake after mistake all season and MM still fails to see he is terrible? Once again, he’s cost us three points!
Collins you have been on borrowed time for a long time now. Maybe The Muppet Mick will wake up now and sort the defence out !
Needs to go plain and simply not good enough this donkey has cost us another 3 points!! i was actually relieved to hear on the commentary that he got a red cos now we wont have him 4 2 games at least!! Mick surely you cant play him again after this display!!??
This has to change…NOW! yeah collins gets a couple of goals but he makes to many mistakes to lose us games. At begining of the season I was willing to forgive and forget but after tonights display he does not dererve to be in the team! This was our most important game so far and we screwed it up. We do not deserve to be even thinking about premiership football next season!
3 points from 5 matches, sorry boys thats not promotion form, it seems like we’ve seen it all before doesn’t it!!!
I still think Collins is the best player we have :-) maybe now he will be dropped !?!
Offer 3 million for Berra to secure his signature and pay for the loan deal to get mancienne back !
The no winning streak has to stop here if we are going to be playing premiership footy next season !!!
If we are going to persist with rubbish like Quashie, Keogh, Collins, Shackell, Hill, Henry…what’s the point? For God’s sake Morgan – WAKE UP!!!
Sorry but i hope he does read these pages and quits football for good, the bloke is a complete menace to football! im not saying he is a particular bad at football just things happen around hime (usually bad) anyone can see that nearly every goal conceeded is preceeded by this numpty doing something stupid, he is single handidly ruining our promotion challenge! Im not saying its all his fault but when he is costing you 2 points here and there i reckon he has lost us atleast 10 points this season! oh and whilst im on Chris iwelumo! i dont care if i get a slating for this of you lot but just watch him! honestly! he is total tosh! he is like a 12th man for the other side! freekicks given away left right and centre, granted not usually fouls but always given none the less so what the hell is the dam point of him? cos he certainly isnt as lucky as the beginning of season when everything he touched went in!
I CANT REMEMBER A BIG GAME IN RECENT YEARS WHERE WE HAVE ACTUALLY NOT BOTTLED IT!
CAN ANYONE ELSE?
P.S….. NIGEL QUASHIE (SHAKES HEAD) WHAT A COMPLETE JOKE!!
Sounds like the scape goat is going to be hammered again. Feed from the game is Hennesey failed to command his box and should have claimed the ball.
However as stated I think Collins is being found out and coud still play his part but against teams that will not show him up for pace.
Still up there big game against Watford as they seem to have turned a corner.
Its our turn to dig in so lets get behind them Sat, none of this QUIET North and South that weve had lately.
Collins is a joke and a liability he will cost us the league. The sooner MM buys a decent CB the better.
what a joke, Collins just isn’t good enuf for this team mistake after mistake, how come everyone else can see it but the management cant is beggers belief, if your a promotion prospect then you put your best players in and use the money to buy some players to get that extra promotion push. Mr Morgan you need to invest some of that 30 mil that you said you had and MM you need to get the better players and get rid of Donkey Collins, sort it out Wolves otherwise i’m supporting Bournemouth at least they are fighting for something that they want.
What A Complete joke!! Mick you are still a crap manager your where 18 months ago, have not got a clue and its starting to hit you on the back side.
why can you not listen to the fans collins is shocking, another mistake and a sending off sums up how rubbish he is!! Bristol City, two mistakes goals scored, Blackpool two mistakes Goals Scored, Middlesboro, mistake was no where to be see when the popped up to score., Sheffield utd mistake not marking is player!! how many more mick, wolves fans are getting sick ad tired of the mistakes hes making, we have gone to pot and if you do not sort out straight away we will be lucking to get in the playoffs
Report abuse
If they won’t let Berra go for £2 million up it to £3 million. Or better still offer them £1/2 million plus Collins. If Collins is as good as MM thinks he is they will snap off his hand.
3 points from the last 5 games, our 7 point lead whittled away and STILL Moxey Morgan and MM have not bought a player. Watch us drop into panic mode now with 4 days left of transfer market. Too bloody late again JEZ. To bloody late.
MM’S Love affair with Collins Keogh and Ward is now starting to cost us big time,Collins exposed time and again as NOT a CB Keogh missing sitters again Ward working his socks off but not a LB.MM is so stubborn and will not waiver whoever offers advice.Paid 1 million for Shackell panic buy pre transfer deadline wont play him,Vokes given 4 minutes last night.Moxey controlling purse string as though he was Gordon Brown,I really fear for the rest of this season.5 days left to sign the Quality we so desperatly need,2 must win home games coming up.Come on Wolves dont blow this time.
Many of the realists on this board stated that McCarthy would blow it by Christmas, and that is exactly what has happened.
3 POINTS OUT OF 5 GAMES!!
McCarthy has a long track record of failing midway, and it has always ended in tears. No instance in his record of any long-term success. Last season was typical, not an exception!
We are now imploding, as was predicted, and the only way left is to sack McCarthy NOW and try and rescue the season with a new, quality manager.
The very idea that MM could manage us in the Premiership is too stupid for words!
SACK MCCARTHY NOW, NOT WHEN THE DAMAGE IS BEYOND REPAIR!
Sorry lads, but you have been beaten home and away by us this season but having seen almost all the teams in the championship i think you should still be confident of taking second. I dont really understand why you are all slagging off MM, you are top! As for the game itself, i thought it was a really comfortable one nil win which suprised me, you were toothless upfront and your keeper was dodgy. Both teams have been out of form of late and it showed, the second half had no quality. The lad deserved the red, he was giving stick to the lino for a while before that and was lucky, think he was frustrated. Anyhow best of luck for the rest of the season andim sure you will go up second. Birmingham are one of the worst teams i have seen and we have already beaten them easily (as have you) and we have them at home last game of the season.
Collins must be dropped he will cost us promotion just like Keogh did. He was another MM pigheaded decision MM IS sticking far too long with players who are just not up to the task you must admit you have made a mistake
Report abuse
While I cannot defend Collins for the own goal which cost us any points last night or the sending off for stupid behaviour, I have to mention that the other 9 outfield players did not exactly make amends by scoring at the other end! It is ok to blame Collins but football is a team game not just 1 man!
Anyway with our lead now down to 2 points, we have to bring in replacements asap with Berra AND Mancienne, whatever the cost, be bought NOW, THIS WEEK!
This is the best and probably our only chance to reach the Prem and should we throw that chance away because at present we cannot win games for toffee and I hate to think what the future could hold if it continues that way.
Mick McCarthy & co, we are all aware of the financial crisis but football has been around for a long time and will continue to be around for a lot longer, so get the money down, purchase the players we need to assure the club of promotion – OR ELSE we all know what the consequences could be!
I first saw Collins play about a year ago and it was obvious he had no skill, could not read the game and could definately not defend.
He is the reason we let goals in and lose games.
He IS a clown & belongs in the circus, not the football team I have supported for 30+ years !
The onnly positive from the game is he got sent off.
MICK – YOU NEED A DECENT CENTRE BACK & LET COLLINS MAKE MISTAKES IN THE RESERVES FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS!
WELL THAT’S JUST ABOUT SEASON OVER FOR US NOW. TOTALLY PATHETIC DISPLAY, AND NEVER MIND SIGNING NEW PLAYERS WE NEED A NEW MANAGER!!!!!!!!
MCARTHY HAS DONE MORE HARM THAN GOOD TO WOLVES IN HIS TIME HERE, 3 YEARS HE WAS GIVEN TO GET US PROMOTION. AND LAST NIGHT PROVED WE’RE AS FAR AWAY FROM ACHIEVING THAT AS WE EVER WERE.
SO HAPPY CLAPPERS TIME TO QUIT BEING SENTIMENTAL AND TIME TO GET REAL… MCARTHY MUST GO AS HE’S BECOME AS BIG A LIABILITY AS THE IDIOT WHO COST US THE GAME LAST NIGHT.
WE WON’T BE PROMOTED..OUR SO CALLED BEST PLAYERS !!YAWN!! WILL LEAVE US.. AND COLLINS AND KEOGH ETC WILL BE THE NUCLEUS OF THE TEAM FOR NEXT SEASON…OH HAPPY DAYS !!NOT!!
I hope there is light at the end of the tunnel after this result and makes mick realise that collins is far from the standard that is required at wolves and shouldnt b in the team ! he couldnt get in the team When craddock and breen was playin soo why should he be in it now !
i think its time tht he gave jody craddock another chance ! he saw what collins and shackell played like last saturday !
soo craddock should be playin this saturday against watford !!
DO PEOPLE AGREE WOLVES FANS !!!??????
Right, McCarthy has to be sacked. His insistence to keep playing Collins, Ward, Keogh and now Quashie?? We are heading for a loss in the playoffs again.
Collins is a walking disaster area, but seems to be immune to being dropped despite giving away goal after goal. If McCarthy will not drop him then he should be sacked, and take Jez with him who just creams more and more money from the club despite the lack of success.
Why did he play Quashie. The game against Reading is not a time to ‘bed’ someone in. We should have kept the same midfield and if necessary bring him on to seal up the shop. Again we conceded early against Reading – just like at Molineux. They must love us.
However even I – the man who would have Mick’s babies if he asked me and I could find the right surgeon – am getting fed up with keogh’s continual contempt for chances he’s given. the lad is NOT a striker. We cannot rely on him to score regularly. he is in effect a midfield player who is there to make chances for others.
I think the game against Watford is truly massive. I think they will come for a point and unless we have players who actually score in the forward line, they could well take all three.
As for another buy – we have the cash, we have a great opportunity but do the club have the ambition. Five days to find out.
turned on after 5 mins to find we were one down. the first thought i had was i bet it’s a collins og. i didn’t expect anything form last night but at least with collins getting banned MM will have to look at other options. still think we might just have enough to pip Blues for 2nd spot. however, if we do go up then god help us.
Collins is a shambles – and we have to put up with him for another 3 years thanks to idiots Jez and Mick.
And who do we sign? Quashie?? A man not good enough for Birmingham. Mick is an idiot.
MM’S Love affair with Collins,Ward, and Keogh is now starting to hurt us big time Collins is not will can not ever hope to be a competent CB,Ward honest endeavor but again not in natural position,Keogh will run all day and miss sitters all day.MM Will not waiver from his belief in these three no matter what the cost.Moxey controlling the purse strings to ensure his annual bonus is still there.Mr Morgan strangely quiet on the transfer situation,5 days left to sign the quality that might just get us safely over the line.2 must win home games coming up.
McCarthy must be sacked?! We are sitting at the Championship not stuck to the bottom of it. You lot really need to get a grip on reality.
Sorry Mick,i like you , i think youre a decent bloke you have made some very good signings however i just have a couple of issues with you. Keough and Collins. Being a father to a child woho is not that great a football is difficult but ive told my kid, now please tell yours :) Look Mick dont turn the whole of the fanbase against you for sticking your neck out by supporting Collins ( and Keough)They maybe decent blokes real team players etc etc etc however it doesnt make them good players. Ive got lots of nice people who work for me but if they dont perform they have to go.
Just one more thought if you do ever pick Keough again tell him to get his haircut it looks ridiculous.
Everyone on here keeps slating the defence, which i agree is poor. But what about the strike force, we need to score goals to win a game. We also need a new striker before the deadline.
Southbank Barmyarmy…. To say Mick has done more harm then good is almost as ridiculous as picking Collins!!
Have you forgotten about a certain Mr Hoddle?! Mick had to pick up the pieces & we are in a much better position now then when he first started!!
Right with that clowns comments out of the way I can begin!!
Mick does have his favorites & Collins getting sent off is pure joy cos now he is forced into dropping him for 2/3 games!! So we might have a chance of winning them!!
I wanna know what has happened to the £30m… If there was ever a time to dip into the coffers to sign a couple of big players to secure us promotion….it was this window… I know there are still a few days left but Jez & Mick normally take weeks to do things so you can probably write that off!!
Why were we not in for Bowyer?
Just get Mancienne & Berra now – forget cost – even they cost us £7m…. Spend £7m & earn £60m for promotion…. no brainer for me!!

Instead of slagging the manager off why don’t the fans actually get behind the team? We’ve been top of the league for most of the season which is better than any of us could have hoped for yet the atmosphere at Molineux has been dead for the last few months! No wonder the players are starting to struggle. Whether you agree with Mick’s team selection or not surely you have to get behind the players?
All these calls to sack MM? Are you kidding me? No board in the country is going to sack their manager when they are top of the league, that would just be utterly ridiculous. Stop whinging because we are on a bad run and support the team. We are still top of the league and you cannot underestimate just how dreadful Birmingham are!
Look on the bright side – we’re getting our jitters out the way early this year instead of March/April/May time!
I have to say that say Mick is not in someway stubborn and can not see the issues in defe3nce, is wide of the mark.
If he could not see the issues in defence, then why was Mancienne bought in the first instance, and why are we looking to buy a centre half as a priority.
Hardly justified critisism do you not think?
with the best will in the world, there is no way Wolves will sack McCarthy while we are top of the league – or even in the top 4.
Its clear Collins has to leave the side. Mick’s problem is that Shackell has not exactly stepped up to the plate – so that has left Mick without cover. I hear the Jody calls, but i dont know how fit he is – or even truthfully he is the answer (mind flashing back to Albion in the playoffs).
We need new blood there. My guess is Chelsea want to sell not Loan Mancienne, why take the risk on a loan. So, have we got the balls to pay up for quality or will be always be scrapping for bargains.
Perhaps Jez could halve his salary to £200k and over 5 years it would be anothe £1m towards a bit of quality?
We have all heard how few goals we conceded in the games Mancienne played compared to the ones he didn’t. The question is, did we concede so few goals in those games because Mancienne was playing or because Collins wasn’t? Still, give the lad his due, realising Mick would never drop him, he took on for the team and got a ban. Thanks Neill, best thing you’ve done all season getting that red!
Bad Result.
Neil Collins has got to be dropped and sold.
He is like Titus Bramble was to Newcastle, probably the worst defender in the clubs history, but for some strange osbcure reason, they kept playing him!!
Sort it out, before its too late!
The ONLY plus from the game is that Collins has got a ban and hopefully now Mick will realise that the player is just NOT good enough for a 1st team position. If we were to compile some stats on the mistakes / penalties Collins has made this season / last season it would be shocking!!!
PLEASE MICK STRENGTHEN THE DEFENCE BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!!!!
GET RID OF COLINS!!! worst defender i have ever seen. Carless & Stupid!! pay whatever for a new defender as long as we don’t have to play Colins.
While we keep playing Keogh Collins Ward we will go no where, they are not good enough, get rid of MM and get the guy from Swansea, now there is a manager who knows a good footballer. Dont think we had a shot on goal last night, MM has no plan B
I would not give him any money to spend, he said that we played well last night, this mad man is Crazy.
Why did he play Keogh, i would of started with our 3rd top goal scorer! and should of played Dave Edwards in midfield with Henry.
Neogitive tactics. But unlucky!!
Obviously many people on here that were not at the game. I had to sit in their end and suffer that.
Reading were nothing special. Our best player was Jarvis and Quashie did not have a bad game. Hennessey’s kicking was woeful and Ebanks-Blake put a shift in . Collins…. we cannot persevere with him as he is a liability. The best thing that happened was him getting sent off at the death.
We must sign and spend some proper money now.
But I am still of the opinion that Blues are nothing special!
i’ve always been 1 for giving a chance to players and the benefit of the doubt, but having seen what i did at reading last night with collins’ again, well…..the 1 bonus is MM has to drop him for the next 3 so he is forced to try something else, probably keogh at the back, its the only place he hasnt played i think!!!!! the ship has to be steadied, if we can see it why cant he? we know where the problem is since mancienne left so why cant the man who is paid 500k a year to do the job see it?
I have never criticised MM on this notice board and have posted regularly but enough is enough. I can’t see why he persists with Keogh and poor collins can play well for 2 thirds of a game then it goes pear shaped but when he starts playing shaky drop him Cradock has been fit for ages also the Rosa thing still baffles me and Quashie i don’t believe it are they all his love child’s.

Quote from MM
“Apart from the goal which is a defining moment I’m delighted with how we played”
IF THAT’S THE CASE WE ARE DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!
Ok,
I have to say, Neil Collins should NEVER EVER put a wolves top on again. He is the thickest, useless, talentless, slowest defender we have ever had. He was at fault again with the 1st goal, poor positioning in his play, granted football is a team game, but when a player is not up to the task then you are severley handicapped! How many more times do fans have to shout the obvious and bleat on that we need quality in defence. We were shown glimpses with Mancienne (Rolls Royce)and thats the calibre we need and not Collins (Clapped out Ford Cortina). MM needs to manage and not make it a job for the boys club which he clearly has his favourites. It sickens me that we have a great chance of promotion and Wolves have not made full use of the transfer window. No quality signings, Reid, “jury is out” and Nigel who should be cover for Karl Henry and not for either D.Jones or Edwards. I am at a loss of why MM keeps tampering with the forwards. Big Chris and Ebanks were scoring for fun, ok Big Chris had a dip in form but you still play him back into form rather than chopping and changing the side. Look at ManU, Berba, Tevez, Rooney have had barren spells but Fergie still picks them to play them back into form. MM has been lucky this season, but other managers have worked us out, we have no Plan B and I have been saying that for months. MM must never play Collins again, leave him on the bench as he is woeful. How many points has his indecision has cost Wolves matches were we would have gone onto win. Pathetic!
What gets me more is that Moxey and Morgan are everso quiet at the moment. We need 3-4 signings but the transfer window is due to shut on monday 5pm and I guarantee we will not bring anyone else in and the funny thing is that Wolves let go one of our best prospects in Mark Davies where Nigel Quashie was rubbish!
Final point. AK is useless. How he gets to start infront of Vokes and Big Chris is beyond me. He brings nothing to the table, light weight, powder puff and cant his a barn door with a banjo!
SORT IT OUT MICK! SORT IT OUT JEZ, SORT IT OUT MORGAN!
Same old same old. Big game and we lose as usual. McCarthy will not get this team out of this league. He has known the defence is lacking and has had 4 weeks to sort this, what has been done, nothing. Its also funny how its always someone elses fault but the players!!
The fact is last night summed up the way we have been performing for two months now.Bar the Derby home game,we have not played well since the middle of November. Yes,Collins has made mistakes and is clearly not good enough at this level, even though he clearly gives 100%.His sending-off could be the best thing to come out of last night’s match.
Apart from defence, the midfield have not fired for this period of two months and it is no co-incidence that this is the period when MM has chosen to tinker with the central positions. We played our best football when Henry and Jones were in there. Now,it seems MM doesn’t fancy Jones. He is the best passer in the team and you don’t concede when you have the ball.As for bringing in Quashie last night ?? JOKE !!
I went to game and Quashie did not have a bad game simple.Collins and Hennesey to blame for goal.
Poor tactics two wingers massive pitch and we play two pint size stikers,Vokes now deserves a run with the big man coming off the bench.Take the goal out the game and it was 0-0 all over and we would have taken that.
Its now time to end this joke Collins must not play for us anymore-simple.
Hope we get a centre half in by saturday,Mance was at the game was he just watching or is he coming back?
Just to add thre not going to sack McCarthy not until the end at least.
We are Wolves

If you would have told me in August that Wolves would be at the top of the table by 2 points come the 1st of Feb 2009 I would have had a big smile on my face. You can talk and whinge Wolves out of the promotion race with your negativity

reading fc- family club I dont think.
The most unsporting team. Ballboys not throwing the ball back to us, the crowd throwing it away from our players, their players kicking the ball away and getting away with it, their wrestling moves on keogh and ebanks blake, the ref was absolutely against us.
no1 you sure you were there I thought quashie done well. We done ok considering they had the ref with them. Still think we will win this league no danger.

I think you guys will go up because we are the best 2 teams in the league but i cannot believe how fickle Wolves fans are it is shocking. Get behind your team.

ermmm, whilst collins desereved to be sent off, i thought the og was unfortunate. secondly, did anyone see doyle, top goal scorer in the league get even a sniff last night ?? no.
anyway, why on earth did we play quashie ? the strikers were isolated. reading sat back after the goal and deserved to be punished (do you remember them having one clear cut chance?) our line up and tactics made it easy for them. if you play two slow holding midfielders then you need a presence up front and surely vokes or iwelumo should have started.
its easy to blame collins again, but we were set up wrong from the start.
also – kightly hid all game. a shocking display i thought. only foley and may be jarvis can really take any credit form that performance.

danwolf – I thought you and the rest of the happy clappers would be quiet today but fair play to you for still coming on here and seeing the glass as half full!
Whilst I do not think it is the right time to sack MM, he should be under no illusions that if he fails to deliver promotion this time then he will be gone. Not because we have a right to be in the Prem but because he and his offspring are doing their level best to throw away a huge points lead through his stubborness and their lack of ability!
The only time I had a smile on my face during the game last night was when Collins saw red because at least he can’t pick the cart horse now for a couple of games! Collins has been responsible for the last EIGHT goals that we have conceded (and I am including the goals against Preston because Elliott was quicker than him which speaks volumes in itself).
Beware MM – misplaced loyalty will cost you your job – WAKE UP!!!!!

How can quashie come straight in??????
How come come Vokes only gets ten minutes behind ‘cant strike a ball true’ Keogh??????
How can centre forward Stephen Ward with a cracked shoulder and gashed shin replace left back Matt Hill who has bee much improved??????
When will we be in the market and be prepared to pay good money for QUALITY players again???????
I can here you lot now ” 2 points clear at this stage…..I’d settle for that” well get your diaries out cus in two weeks time I’ll bet money we are in the play off places!!!!

I can see the same thing happening that happened a few seasons ago when we were 11 points or so ahead and sitting pretty in second slot, only for the ‘team’ to blow it and then loose out on the playoffs. It is not a case of being all doom and gloom, but a case of being that position before and not getting anything out of it.
Sadly it seems to be the case that our strikers have lost the way to goal, where as at the beginning of the season we were scoring for fun, now it would just be fun to score. Our midfield is being out muscled, and the defence is all at sea (I wish some of them were). Hennesey is well overated in my opinion, has no command of his area, did he actually call for the ball when collins headed it in??? if he’d stayed on his line he would have caught it no problem.
Watford next is a must win game, and Watford are yet another of the teams we have difficulty beating.

Memo to Muppett Mick how many times do us Wolves fans need to spell it out DROP COLLINS AND KEOGH TOTAL LIABILITIES it is totally dumbfounding how you can keep playing these types of players who just are not up to Championship League Class and because of your idiotic selections of late you have now blown our once comfortable lead to just 2pts.
Will be interesting to see how the team handles the pressure from now on as everyone bar MM seen this coming weeks ago so come on Mick and stop mucking around with the team and play our best players in their right positions and drop your favourites NOW otherwise we will not only miss out on automatic promotion but just maybe the play offs as well.

Went to last nights match.
One word – GUTTED
Because Reading were no better than us & were there for the taking in the 2nd half.
This is my view of proceedings :-
Hennessey – Bag of nerves, made one decent save but that was for the cameras, should have come for the cross that lead to the goal & kicking was iffy.
Foley – Partly at fault for the goal, should have cleared when he had chance, knew it & took half an hour to settle after, decent 2nd half.
Ward – Did Ok, never stopped battling, took a booking for the team after Jarvis lost the ball & Reading broke into space behind him.
Stearman – Did well, for me pick of th back 4, held us together.
Collins – Superb header for the goal, put it in the only place the keeper couldn’t get it, but redeemed himself later by being sent off.
Kightly – Anonymous for too much of the game, should have shot in 2nd half instead of playing in Ilewemo, If he doesn’t perform neither do Wolves. Dead ball delivery was awful.
Henry – Battled all night never gave up, did what he was supposed to, tried to drive us forward, but with little end product.
Quashie – see above.
Jarvis, Huffed & puffed, did Ok 1st half, did create the best chance of the match, but, didn’t cause their debutant fullback enough problems, especially 2nd half, seemed to run out of steam.
Keogh, Contributed nothing to the team, missed an absolute sitter, was allowed to stay on the pitch far too long, no where near good enough.
Ebanks Blake – Our best player by a mile, battled with their back 4 all night. never gave up, had to try to create his own chances as he had precious little service from the rest of the team, attitude was superb.
McCarthy – Had to set the midfeild out as he did due to his stubborness in insisting to play Collins & his plan almost worked, apart from the fact that the aforementioned hapless Collins gave us a mountain to climb with barely 60 seconds on the clock, Keogh??? why??? when is he going to realise that ‘Forest’ just isn’t good enough, 2 goals this season tells the story, where was Dave Jones, the best passer of the ball at the club???, our free kicks & corners were dreadful. Why leave the double substitution til only 5 mins left, we needed a goal surely this should have happened with 15 mins to go. In line with the rest of this post I have to say that McCarthy didn’t help his team last night & got it wrong, poor decision making & just not good enough on the night (McCarthy this is!!!) I’m starting to think that IF we do get promoted it will be inspite of the manager not because of him, we are in serious danger undoing the best start to a season I have seen in 30 yrs of following Wolves.
I will also be interested to see if Mick ‘I am the law’ McCarthy will come down as hard on Collins lack of discipline as he has done with every other player that has let the team down, I think not.
All of the above was bad enough, but the worst thing about last night was the fact that 6 of us were in the home end, after having to purchase corporate seats, & had to endure the inane rantings of the smarmy, smug Reading fans, which was the final insult!!!
The Club/Team/Fans desparately need a lift right now, top of the league or not, a couple of decent transfers would do it, if Hearts want £3m for Berra, give it too them, also try to get Manncienne back & I’d even persue the Gow signing now he has been given the all clear, as we need a different option going forward.
Also, extra crossing practise in training tomorrow, McCarthy.
Come Moxey, Morgan & McCarthy its decision time.
Stick or twist?
Keep the faith
Wolves forever

The first comment on here got it exactly right
As regards Mad Mick, if he fails to select his best team for the rest of the season, when most people would agree its glaringly obvious,we will fail in the play offs again and Im sorry but the man should be sacked
Obvious Wolves team
1 Hennessey
2 Foley
3 Stearman
4(Anyone except Collins)
5 Ward

Read this page religously but first posting so here goes. Good comments 60., but I have to agree with the consensus here….Collins is not good enough ! Keogh is not a striker, good work rate but no idea what to do with the ball once he has it ! We need to bolster our defense and find a midfield playmaker, I don’t think Quashie is our man.
And as far as sacking MM is concerned …… it’s never gonna happen, everyone was singing his praises pre christmas, now we want his blood because he’e hit a bad patch…get real!
I know you’ve heard it all before but we really do need to get behind the team now, let’s try and do our bit and lift them to a win on saturday.

Still top, still miles ahead of fourth place and wouldn’t we have all settled for a confirmed Play Off place at the start of the season? We’ve got it. But we also have the chance of being two of three teams going up automatically. To the Reading fans – if you are so good WHY aren’t you top?
Cos you mess up just like Wolves and Blues, that’s why. Beating Wolves does not make you the best – you wait until the seasons over, matey.

I never really normally understand the vilification of an individual. However, this has been my train of thought in the last fortnight.
When Collins stopped running and let Bristol City score, I thought ‘Oh dear, he doesn’t help himself, does he?’.
When I switched on Sky last night and found that Collins had taken all of 50 seconds to score against us, I thought ‘it couldn’t have happened to a more unlucky candidate’.
When he got red carded in stoppage time, I thought ‘well, at least Mick McCarthy can’t pick him for a week. Probably just as well as his Wolves career is beyond rescue’.

collins needs to go. ive had enough of watching him mess up time and time again. We need to invest in another centre half some ones whose proven rather than a young kid from a lower league if we have any chance to make promotion. with the team we got the likes of ebanks blake and kightly maybe good enough for the premiership but the rest? we also need another stricker. Vokes is still learning and keogh must be the only stricker i know who is scared of scoring. blake is good but we cant depend just him give him a decent partner he deserves it and maybe we can clinche promotion. But at the moment every season theres a team that does well at the first part while other better teams find their feet… who end up just below play offs. Will this be our fate this season if MM doesnt wake up and sort out the team.

I know Collins is poor – he has cost us 10 – 15 points this season – and I know Andy Keogh will miss more chances than he will score but we are still there and we are still fighting, so put up or shut up…NOW!!
KEEP THE FAITH!!! UP THE WOLVES!!! Oh, and “That Lot” got walloped last night, ho, ho!!

What we have to question goes a little more deep than simply why Collins is being selected. McCarthy has spent a small fortune on defenders in his time at the club and still doesn`t consider them an alterative to a player who is clearly weak. In the period before Mancienne arrived Collins was in poor form and the results sequence didn`t look good so he was replaced. Our form picked up and we soared away at the top of the league. Mancienne was recalled,Collins returned to the team and results have dipped again…simple stuff. What is clear is that the manager is misguided. Shackell and JC must be pretty poor if they can`t dislodge Collins. Speculation them mounts over Berra and a large bid for Mancienne. McCarthy has already spent the money on defenders who don`t play….Shackell, Hill, Friend etc. In real life if you are in charge of any type of budget you are accountable. If you waste it you are sacked. The problems are far deeper than just Collins. Player selection for transfer both in and out is weak.Loyalty is misguided and players spend too long performind badly in the team. I fear we will blow this and loose are young stars returning to square one again. We will never have a better chance to be promoted. The league is poor as usual, we must grab the opportunity now. Mr Morgan must put up as he promised.Maybe the club just don`t want it enough?

Hi all, obviously a bit of doom and gloom hanging about, which is understandable.
Not going to slag the players off, they dont need that right now.
Reading the comments above confirms what we all know, already and have known for the three years McCarthy has been here that the defence has always been lacking, it has never been rectified and you would think with McCarthy being a former defender then that would have been sorted before anything else.
We have the oppurtunity to bring in some quality being top of the league and should be one of the favourites to go up, but the club yet again is dragging its heels, we never go the extra mile when trying to sign new players and that is why we are now 5 days before the transfer window shuts and will start panic buying players other clubs are trying to offload.
Our targets should have been identified before the opening of the window and we should have been out there aggressively aquiring these players, not to back down when the first hurdle was put in our way.
What this says to be is that even if we do get in the premiership there will be no big signings, no quality to boost the team just aquiring average players that have gone in the other direction with relegated clubs. Like we all say you have to speculate to accumulate and this will be one of them rare oppurtunities that we have the chance to do that.
Lets hope we sign a quality Midfield General and Centre back or two to give the current encumbents a good kick up the proverbial backside.
On another note if we continue this recent run of form to the end of the season we will accrue only 70 points and will not even make the playoffs. We need to turn this slump around and quick if we are to salvage anything from the season.
The next game is now a must win game for us as if we loose then Reading win they will be top and Birmingham if they win will only be one behind that will lead to a massive drop of morale for the team and the supporters.
See you all at molineux on saturday.

Shortly before yesterday’s game, I received a text from my Baggies mate telling me that they would lose because Robinson was a liability. I replied that so would we because Collins is an even greater liability. We’re thinking of doing horoscopes if anyone is interested!
A lot of fury vented at Collins but of course he’s not going to tell the manager he’s rubbish and shouldn’t play. The manager picks him and the manager’s accountable.
Those who say you can’t call for Mick’s head because you praised him before Christmas have got it wrong. I praised him for some of his buys and the style with which we played but always said that the true man would come out when the wheels started coming off….stubborn, irrational loyalty and no Plan B!
You have to be intelligent to be a football manager and part of that intelligence is to be willing to learn. I’m not sure I’ve seen him learn anything in two and a half years. The same arrogance and the same disregard for anyone who takes a contrary view.
I don’t want him managing my club and to say he’s light years better than Hoddle is like saying that Darren Ward is light years better than Collins!
Finally, to say that Reading and Birmingham are no great shakes at the moment gives no comfort. I want to go up playing football like Swansea or Doncaster currently are and not scrapping a 1-0 here and there in the hope we crawl over the finishing line….I think Watford adopted that approach last season!

Yet another woeful performance by Collins. I made the round trip to Reading to see him perform his latest comedy act. It would be funny if it was not costing us so many matches. Lets face it, last season Collins was a man who was clearly shown to be a very average league or non league player. Incredibly, he was then rewarded with a four year contract. The writing was on the wall at this point. Whatever anyone says, MM will continue to play him as long as he remains manager. He sells Davies a forward thinking player, a highly rated prospect from our acaademy. MM bemoans the fact the Davies would not sign a new contract. What was the lad to do, went to Leicester, continually man of the match, not recalled and we sign Quashie, BCFC reject who I have seen many times as my lad is a blues fan. HE IS USELESS and an identical player to Henry. SO Davies walks and i dont blame him. For some reason MM would not play him quoting he had not seen enough of him to warrant him playing……and he has watched QUASHIE has he ??. If he has why has he signed him. MM you have not JUST lost the plot, you lost it last season. The beginning of the season was not a true reflection of our team. Other teams know how to play through our numerous frailties and this is now a re run of last season. We have played badly for over two months and will be in the play offs if we are lucky. I know exactly why we have not signed anybody decent….MM’s reputation as a manager and Mr Morgan not wanting to waste his money on alledgedly good players like Collins. Completely and utterly disallusioned after last night. No tactics, no coherence and no talent.By next Christmas we will have a new manager still in the Championship. MM will not go this season.Face it he is here till at least the summer. AND give KIghtly a break in the reserves to get his confidence back. He is totally off the pace and very poor at the moment. Give Reid a chance, MM has signed him or is he just to warm the bench like Vokes. Totally disallusioned but resigned to see a re run of last season.

Where do you start after such a terrible result? Sorry to say, but I just can’t see Collins ever being forgiven by Wolves fans after last night’s double howler. It was last chance saloon for the bloke and he fluffed it. His time is up. Yet another insane own goal followed by a needless red card -absolutely ridiculous! There again, maybe the suspension of Merlin’s love child is a blessing in disguise!
What has Vokesy got to do to get a start, ffs? Why play two defensive midfielders in Quashie & Henry? We needed creativity and had none, even against an injury-ravaged Reading defence. Mick, all this tampering is costing us big time. Play Quashie when we’ve got a lead to protect and not before!
Five league games without a win and only one victory in the past seven games tells us everything we need to know: this team is losing confidence fast and there’s no Plan ‘B’. If we don’t secure Mancienne’s services (or another quality centre half), the auto promotion places will soon be out of reach. We’ve got to spend or we can kiss our dreams goodbye. Personally, I can’t see where the next win is coming from, but I’ll still turn up cheering them on. We all need to, more than ever before.
Blow it this season and not only would Mick deserve the chop, but I doubt we’ll have another realistic shot at promotion for a good 5 years. That’s how serious it is.

I listened to the game on the radio last night on Beacon which by the way I had to put up with Bill Hatton’s biased and exegerated commentry, against the wolves! lol and I was disgusted with how little pashion the lads showed in the first half, second half we battled well but it was too late the damage had been done and reading havent only conceeded 8 all season at home for nothing, they were very strong in defence and we didnt have enough pace upfront to cause their defence any problems. Overall I think we need to get a new CB and we need a PACEY and QUICK Forward, IM FED UP OF SEEING BIG AND SLOW FORWARDS its not going to work well if we have no pace upfront in the prem if we get there that is? I like Collins, he wears his heart on his sleeve but McCarthy needs to see reality, he is just calamity, its a shame because collins is full of bad luck but at the end of the day he may cost us going up automaticly and i dont think we can beat burnley or swansea if we make the palyoffs

An open letter to Wolves fans from Mick McCarthy:
Good morning. I realise today that, as we sit looking down at 23 teams below us with only 17 games remaining, people have become increasingly concerned with our dip in form. Me too – but we’re still top.
Last season, I stuck with the 4-4-2 formation despite spending most of the season without dedicated wingers. This is the only style I know – I will play it until hell freezes over or I leave football, whichever comes first. This worked incredibly well early in the season – but it would appear that people have become wise to our tactics – helped by the fact that I never change them.
The biggest impact in the first half of the season was Big Chris. His goals up to mid-December represented his best return since his U10 season for his school – we can’t expect him to repeat this. This is why it is entirely logical to play Keogh there instead – why worry about whether big Chris can rediscover his scoring touch again. Instead, I’ve taken this out of the equation by playing someone who has never had a scoring touch.
As for the centre of defence, as a no-nonsense centre half myself, I can recognise quality when I see it. Mancienne will never be good in the air – so that is why I’ve left him on the bench in the past to play Collins. I know I paid £1m for Shackell, but he’s good in the air as well. I honestly believe that in the remaining 17 games, we will win more than we lose and start to keep clean sheets – especially if teams only attack us in the air.
With this in mind, and with Neil’s impending suspension, I propose a more defensive set up for the next two “must win” home games.
1. Hennessey
2. Foley
3. Ward
4. Henry
5. Shackell
6. Stearman
7. Kightly
8. Quashie
9. Ebanks-Blake
10. Vokes
11. Jarvis
My tactics will be to play Quashie and Henry in the same way I did with Olofinyana last year, in case teams have the audacity to attack us on the ground. Then we can hoof the ball up to Vokes. We can then attack their 6 defenders with our 4 forwards (since Henry and Quashie won’t be able to cover the ground in time). When the move invariably breaks down, we’ll out number them in defence and we won’t concede.
Defence is the key now – despite vicious rumours that our best run this season came from playing completely the opposite way. Clean sheets means we can scrape 1-0′s. Onwards and sidewards you bunch of whingers.
Our main problem will be the stubborn attitude of our manager MM. What I cannot believe is MM was a defender in his playing days and yet he cannot see that Collins just isn’t good enough for professional football.
Do not agree with those slating Ward, I was skeptical about him starting at left-back in the beginning, but to be fair to the guy he has been very consistent and looks to be one of the better footballers we have – even in the games with have struggled in recently he has tried to add impetus to our attacks on push forward (more than I can say for Hill – jury still out on him).
Finally our captain Henry, he runs around a lot but doesn’t actually contribute much to the team. He is too one-footed, gets caught in possession easily and when does pass the ball it goes sideways at best, but normally heads backwards ( the modern day CRAB!).
I hope things get sorted quickly, as finishing in the playoffs will be a disaster and with the likes of QPR, Preston, Cardiff, Burnley and Sheff Utd vying for them it will be difficult to win through to the Promised land from there.

I didn’t go last night yet posted earlier on my feelings regarding Collins (and they weren’t excessively bad – see #85).
As the disappointment subsides slowly, I have just read the Martin Swain analysis which the Express & Star – no doubt in infinite wisdom – is not allowing comments on.
Now, one would imagine that as the E&S’s senior sports journalist, Mr. Swain was at the game – a ‘pleasure’ that I cannot claim to have shared in.
I would imagine that the overwhelming majority of posters to this forum were, like me, also absent from the Madjeski, and so, as did I, are posting based on headlines and disappointment.
To read Martin Swain’s analysis is to read an article completely juxtaposed to the majority of doom and gloom in ths thread and puts an entirely different perspective on proceedings.
I hope that those going to the next match at the Molineux go uplifted by Mr. Swain’s positives rather than feeling doom-laden by reading reaction from posters here.
It is without doubt that results of late have been of concern. But no is not the time for nay-sayers or doom merchants. Now is the moment of our test of character – both on and off the pitch. Let’s see positive performances from players on the pitch and fans on the terraces. Let’s sing our team to confidence and cheer our way to the Premiership having made Molineux the fortress of support that is key to success.

I was at Reading last night, and I saw our team fight back and try and win that game. To say Mick Mcarthy should be sacked is a disgrace, the season has just passed the halfway point, and is it just me or is there 17 games left??? Yes, thought so. Every team goes through a bad patch and were going through ours now. Loyal supporters would stick by their team & not get on their backs constantly.

Emma – To say Mick Mcarthy should be sacked is a disgrace
Maybe if you actually understood football then maybe your comment would be justified, however saying he shouldnt be sacked shows how little you know about the team and the way mick runs it!
No I don’t think so. You can’t win every game 128. The bad patch has been 5 games. & Its a disgrace because how do you expect our team to have stability when the managers are sacked everytime something bad happens? & correct me if Im wrong, but you cant exactly sack a manager when were 2 points clear at the top of the table, with games against norwich, watford, coventry and burnley still to come.

Wolves’ are not of Premiership quality the whole place revolves around Champion football they are trying to take a team in to the Premiership that doesn’t belong there.
We do, the supporters that is, because we pay our money and turn up every week to support the club.
Face it boys and girls we are not top of a league we are in front of the rest of the field two thirds through the race.
That is a great position to be in but we have got to move on we started with nothing, Mick as built at team to get them to the striding out in front.
Now he needs to look beyond the finish to prepare for climax when all the other teams are coming to catch him on the line and that costs money.
With that in mind, if he wins this race, there is another race in prospect next season called the Premiership and to have any chance of finishing forth last we need to win this race by fifteen lengths (points) and not by a short head and that costs more money.
Mr Moxey, Mick or Steve have shown no incentive to move on to the higher level, they won’t pay the price or the wages for the players we need to get beyond where we are now, three and four mil and 14 grand is peanuts in the Prem.
They will of course be asking us to contribute to their expenditure next season win or lose, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if they don’t sell the players that have brought on this season and start again.
Football is a business and not a game, Mr Moxey and Steve are businessmen and Mick gets paid a lot of money to get the team thereabouts within budget.
They can find players in lower leagues or the academy, bring them on and sell them on, keep the supporters happy with a half decent team and if they go up to the Prem it’s a thirty five mil bonus.
It may cost Steve a few quid but Mr Moxey, Mick and the players all get paid we are just the paying supporters watching them do it, Go on Mr Moxey prove me wrong.

Big well done to neil donkey collins for costing us a match that a win or draw would have been suffice january was our make or break month and all them points have withered away if mm had got any ambition he would stop playing the donkey stop playing keogh and at this moment in time kightly has gone off the boil what has happened to all the fast running at teams we need some quality at the back and also get back to what we were doing early season showing no fear it seems like the team think about what they are doing too much now when going forward

Reading were not that good according to some – so 2 point clear still and we must come out of this bad patch soon. Very disappointed with last night.
Also sat with the Reading fans but only 20 seats from the wolves fans.
I didn’t think there was much difference between the two teams apart from the dreadful og.
Wolves fans weren’t very loud, really disappointed with this, apart from the taunting of Duberry over the bowyer incident and a few top of the league chants there wasn’t much else.
I don’t know why MM is persisting with the same tactics, it’s like he has no plan b if things don’t work out.
MM doesn’t seem to know what his strongest team is.
Hoofing the ball up to keogh doesn’t work, if you are going to play long ball then you need Vokes on.
The reading fans around me were nervous however, but they aren’t very nice fans. ( we were sat in the south stand which was only half full- pretty poor that they couldn’t sell this game out.
Thought Doyle and Hunt were well shackled last night and they didn’t really create any more than us.
Lita should have been sent off last night for feigning a dislocated shoulder- perhaps he forgot where he was and is after an Oscar instead.
Collins played ok for most of the game, but ok is not good enough. We need someone assured and competent at the back- if we don’t get Berra, then wouldn’t be surprised to see MM put Iwelumo in defence on Sat, such is his tinkering with players.
MM the magician, wish he’d disappear

Time for Mick to be sacked, and Jez along with him.
I dunno what Collins was thinking when he headed the ball backwards. I think Shackell should have a go now, he can’t do any worse than collin!!!!!
I also think that we need two mid-fielders brought in (permanent NOT loan) because I think if we inject some new players into the squad it will get us going again.
If we sold Mark Davis for 2 million then we should add that money towards Elliot, Leigertwood or Berra because money talks and there must be a team willing to sell to us if we match the price.
why does everyone find the need to critisise us LOUD fans that sit in the southbank,
sure you come to the game aswel,
but you in the praw sandwhich brigade sit there and clap all game, whilst us in the loud stand get behind the team. We have a right to get on the two players backs that are completely awful, collins and keogh, the two worst players in the history of wolves. If MM wants to play collins we may aswel get breen back. Collins looks like he is going to score in both penalty boxes, reminds me of bambi to be honest. The only thing i can wish for is that during his 3 game ban he goes to new zeland and breaks his legs climbing a mountain. MM SORT IT OUT MATE.

never mind the players telling us not to worry etc; basically we had no meaningful shots at goal, Keogh and Iwelumo are awful, the defence is a shambles -hennessy and Collins in particular and the midfield creates nothing. MM takes off jarvis when he was twice as effective as Kitely, puts on Iwelumo who is just a lumbering waste of space at the moment whereas Vokes who has skill and can take some of the pressure off SEB stays on the bench until the bitter end.

One of Mick’s strengths as a manager is his undying loyalty to his players; consequently his refusal to criticise them. An admirable trait, but, unfortunately, it is also his Achilles Heel.
Maybe winning 7 on the bounce (twice) this season has instilled in him the total belief that his current squad is more than capable of securing promotion. If so, that’s a severe error of judgement on his part. However, it does explain his less than enthusiastic approach to dipping his toes into the transfer market and bringing much-needed, fresh blood into the side. I’ve a horrible feeling that this will ultimately cost us our big chance to get out of this division from hell.
A simple question, therefore, to all Wolves fans:
If Wolves fail to go up this year, even through the Playoffs, (but ESPECIALLY given our top placing for much of the season), will he DESERVE the sack? From such a position of strength, I’d say the answer is a resounding YES.
On the whole, I think Merlin’s been good for Wolves, but his errors of judgement/pig headedness/ridiculously OTT loyalty to his ‘favourites’ etc has to be questioned. Fluff it, Mick and I’d say there’s NO excuses, son!
I particularly welcome the ‘pro’Mick’ views because, as I said, there’d be NO excuses for failure from such a great position. Let’s hope he succeeeds, though!

I have to say firstly, the goal was one of those fluke goals, Collins should take more blame for getting himself sent off or ironically praised because MM was never going to drop by all accounts.
To me I wasn’t expecting much at Reading anyway; however we only created perhaps 1 clear chance in the second half judging by the radio commentary. Our cutting edge isn’t truly back yet, Kites wasn’t involve in much last night and is time Vokes had a run in the side? We simple need to see a reaction on Saturday, time for the players to stop all of the talk and start doing the walk.

Constructive critisism for Kightly
This ‘free role’ you appear to have been given doesn’t suit you kiddo, you were much more effective when you stuck to the right channel & linked up with the fullback & forwards, I think thats why the goals have dried up & performances have become ‘patchy’.
Reminds me of Beckham when used to roam everywhere when he played for England, trying to do everyone elses job.

Was at Reading last night first game for three years — thought we gave as good as we got and probably were more of a threat. In fact very surprised at how few chances Reading created. If Keogh had scored when easier to do so than miss — or Jarvis had scored then we’d all be happy. can’t understand why we don’t trust the boss who has assembled the team that is top of the league — we are supposed to be supporters.
So it’s ok to call one of our guys a clown and a joke and a disgrace is it? That’s supposed to help our team somehow? We know Neill’s got his obvious limitations (and he’s got qualities too AND he gives everything every game). But what’s he supposed to do when the Manager picks him, say “No sorry Mick I’m not good enough”. The point is, that people respond best to encouragement and constructive criticism. He’s still a Wolf and it’s likely that he’ll still be selected. So we need him feeling positive and confident. So,encourage him and (if you must) let MM know how you feel about what his alternatives are. When things are going badly, we need to do more of the encouragement and positives, not the slagging offs. I really thought that’s what supporters did? And yeah before anyone says it, I live in the same world as you and I’ve seen every game this season bar 5.
As had been correctly mentioned here – MM protects his players. As happens in life, he has favourites. Ultimately, if players fail to perform, he pays with his job, albeit with payoff structures that would make public enemy number one (i.e. anyone that works for a bank) extremely envious.
Comparing the Hoddle era to the McCarthy era, there are several key things that should be considered. Hoddle brought in mates (his late brother from the car lot, Darren Anderton etc) for pay days at the expense of the club. McCarthy, in his first season, was the exact opposite. Kids through the ranks, last minute free transfer wheeler-dealing etc. In fairness, he did a grand job.
Last season, with a little more cash, he abandoned the emphasis on home built youngsters, made a bit of money selling on our free transfer players, but whenever he’s spent more than 500K, has made a hash of it – Ebanks Blake the exception to the rule.
Sticking to 4-4-2 last season when we hardly had a winger fit was his way of telling fans that he liked Keogh, Ward etc. and would play them no matter what. This season, he’s killed off any confidence that we have in the goalkeeping department (which was a tight knit set-up until Mimms’ defection) by his treatment of Henners. A good goalkeeper is worth 10-15 points a season – that’s gone. Now, Henners may have got too big for his boots and needed taking down – I don’t know – but what I do know is that Henners/Ikeme look as if they’ve filled their pants whenever they play.
In 2007/8, the clean sheet success was built on Seyi and Henry sitting in front of the back four – the result being our pathetic goals scored. At the start of this season, with Iwelumo being inspired and both wingers back, we were on fire. But the going has got tough – and the tough have reverted to type.
The bad news for people who think that MM will react to the changed circumstance is that he can’t. Ask Sunderland fans.
His idea of how to return to winning ways will be by trying to keep clean sheets. Logical and I have no problem with this. Provided it means bringing in players better than the ones we have. But his recent record of defender purchases, Foley aside and it’s impossible to pass judgement on the unfortunate Elokobi, has not exactly been strong. Collins, Shackell, Friend, Stearman – are they really better than Rob Edwards, Craddock, Dan Jones? So what this means is that Henry and Quashie will be asked to sit in front of the back four. The result will be a repeat of the dire performances seen last season – which in fairness was as mind numbingly dull for the most part as Hoddle’s reign.
SEB is a fantastic goal poacher – which requires an attacking midfield. Jones and Edwards have only shown glimpses of this – Kightly’s ‘free-role’ is nowhere near as effective as when he’s on the wing (as pointed out by some on today’s threads) and when the ball can’t reach the flanks, we have 50% of our attacking options taken out of the game. Hence, we are under the cosh again, with pressure on a fragile defence.
Last season, we were bailed out by January transfers so I have a heart-felt plea:
“Dear Mr Morgan, Please could you fix it for me to watch premiership football at the Molineux next season. Please sanction loans until the end of the season of 1) Mancienne or another centre half of similar stature (ring all Premiership sides to see who needs match fitness/experience in a promotion battle) and 2) an attacking midfielder, rather than just wing cover (again, please ring all prem clubs).”
I wouldn’t trust MM with cash at the moment given recent performance and feel that, provided Moxey decides against a holiday the day after promotion (on the assumption we go up) we’ll get better value then – especially when Mr Morgan knows what his income for the next year will be.
End of Adam Ant’s sermon.

I’m just wondering how many people copying each other’s comments above actually went to the game. I think quite a few probably didn’t.
One – Collins was the one who headed the ball but the own goal was NOT his fault. If you get chance to watch it again look carefully and see that it is Wayne’s lack of positioning and dithering that is the cause of the own goal.
Two – Own goal aside, the Reading forwards didn’t get a proper look-in all match. Why? Because Collins and Stearman played them out of the game. We lost because the forwards didn’t score, not because the defence was weak!
Three – Because you don’t like Collins and Mick picks him, you (stupidly) call him ‘Mick’s favourite
Four – Because you like Kightly and Mick picks him. you call him things like ‘indispensible’
Five – If you were actually at the game last night and watched it sensibly, you would have noticed that Collins played better than Kightly.
Six – Actually, averaged out over the season, Collins is ahead of Kightly in performance terms.
Seven – Collins – the worst player ever to have put on a Wolves shirt? Nonsense, Nonsense, Nonsense. The best ever? Obviously not. The worst ever? Nowhere near. If you seriously think that, thank God you’re not in charge of scouting and buying players.
Eight – Sack Mick? Never been successful? (Quite a few managers would give their right arm for Mick’s level of lack of success) Worst state we’ve been in for years? Get a life! (Or maybe get a coaching qualification and do better!!) We’re top of the league, playing reasonably well, not having much luck and one or two players losing a bit of form (stand up please Mick’s lovechild(!) Mr Kightly)
Do you muppets honestly believe players will want to come here knowing that they might be slagged off by so-called fans before they’ve even kicked a ball in a match?
Forget the nonsense about Davies – this club did well by him and greed got the better of him. He was sent out to get fitness and then to improve his match-fitness for the high-tepo games Wolves play.
Amazing how so-called fans love the high-tempo game when we win but complain about Mick’s requirement for hard-work if we don’t win.
If you really don’t like what you’re watching that much, don’t go to the match. There are plenty of other clubs within travelling distance that would be happy to take your money off you.
Support the team, support the club, don’t turn against the players (now that’s a really sensible way of motivating them to do better, isn’t it?) Encourage the team. We will come good!
Best Wishes
David

I would like to operate on David pathetic comments. A prized village idiot you really are!
1) I watch the highlight and Collins head was a schoolboy header fit for sunday league, Henners had no chance in saving it. What a plank!
2) Our defensive set meant that the Reading forwards didnt get a look in, i.e we had 6 defensive minded players in that side what did you expect??
3) Collins is Mick’s favourite, a blind man can see that. Evident as after the match MM was fuming not about the sending off which in my opinion was a lack of discipline, but fuming about the Reading players. If that was Freddy getting sent off you would have got a different reaction from MM.
4) Doesnt make sense!
5) I didnt go to the match, but the last time I checked Collins scored an own goal so that him a better player that Kites. Also it might have escaped your attention that they both play in different positions.
6) A comical statement, Collins performances have been absymal. You need a memory enhancement if you think of the assists and goals that Kites have scored rather than the shocking defensive performances of Collins.
7) Collins is heading to be the worst player ever to play in a wolves shirt. He is getting up to the standard of Robert Taylor & Claridge!
8) MM will get the sack if wolves blow this chance of promotion. How can you say Kites is MM lovechild, he has been excellent and worthy of his place, Collins is a shocking, slow, inept player but still gets picked week in and week out……
Conclusion, David I doubt very much you go to wolves match. Otherwise if you did you would realise your comment is nothing more that a moronic, idiotic ramblings of a deluded village prat.
JOG ON!

Guys, uys
David is Neil Collins!!!!! lol
Though I do agree is his sentiment that we need to get behind the team, but they also need to realise or more to the point McCathy needs to realis that the team needs to give the fans something to shout about, Ireckon we will bounce back in the next 2 games as there will be no David.

Mick is clueless when it comes to spending more than £250k on a lower league player. If that is all we are willing to pay for a player then we deserve to be in the Championship forever.
Time for Jez to pull a deal out of the bag, not another useless loan like Reid or Quashie, but a quality player who is the missing piece of the puzzle.

Also, Collins, Ward, Mick, Jez and Morgan out.

What about SEB, Stearman, Foley, Elokobi, Illewemo & Jarvis.
I understand its frustrating at the moment, but we’ve got to be balanced in our critisisms.

another “happy-clapper” i guess, loving that term fellas! anyway, i think the fella from 178 who you so expertly put-down was saying 7 points is the MINIMUM TARGET, not the actual minimum.
not so clever and sarcy now are we….?

You’ll never walk alone unless you lose,
or drop a couple of points,
or see your lead drop to less than 5 points,
or have not secured promotion by March.
If there was a competition for fickle fans, the Wolves would be Champions League contenders!
Reading are a very good side who have a shrewd manager and were playing premier league last year. Losing 1-0 is no disgrace!

200 – just as I suspected. Most of the people making the copycat comments in this thread were not at the match.
I’ll say it for you in simple terms, shall I?
Mick picks Collins and Kightly. Because you don’t like Collins you call him Mick’s Lovechild (a stupid description to begin with). Because you do like Kightly, you call him something else. Where is there any semblance of logic in your remarks.
Thank you for pointing out to us that Collins and Kightly play in different positions. That was a tricky one!
Averaged out over the season, their performances in their respective positions, Collins is ahead of Kightly. Some of Collins’ defensive displays have been awesome. Some of Kightly’s midfield displays have been dispirited, unenergetic and lacking imagination. Kightly has been directly responsible for several goals against with pathetic misdiredted passes. Sorry I’ve forgotten – you don’t actually watch the play in matches carefully.
The pathetic moaners and whingers who call themselves Wolves fans are making our club a laughing stock up and down the country, slagging players off before the ink on their contract is dry. Moaning about them before they have even played a game. That’s why players won’t want to come here. Because of you!!! Support the team or go away!!!!!!!!!! Stop making my team and the team of all the true supporters a laughing stock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Collins – the worst player ever to play for Wolves. You really have no idea, do you. In at least one game, Collins’ positional play got Mancienne out of trouble on numerous occasions, when Mancienne got caught out of position and got turned quickly.
Remember this: If Mancienne is as great as many people claim and he is available for 3 million pounds, why are Wolves first in the list to get him? Why hasn’t he gone to a Premier Club? Why hasn’t a foreign team signed him at what would be for them a bargain price?
Just one last thing for now – Stephen Ward has been awesome at left-back – to the point of him being considered for the international team. Have you actually been watching?
Everey season every team in every league in every country has a bad spell – we’re having one. NOW is the time to SUPPORT the team and NOT to moan and whinge. We have a great opportunity in the matches ahead of us. Birmingham and Reading still have to play each other again. What counts is where we are at the end of the season – we will come good and then you can pretend to be a true and loyal fan again.
Best Wishes
David

208 david , i agree 100% with your comments , we have lost form , to all the so called realists on these pages , of course you have ,like anybody else that pays good money to watch wolves a right to air your views, but if someone disagrees with your comments about team displays or team selections, you call them happy clappers , for god sake , its human nature to agree or ortherwise with anyone , but for the sake of supporting wolverhampton wanderers , please try at least stop the whinging and moaning and the blame game till the summer when we actually know , which league we are in????

Sign Berra, sign Davenport, then we dont need Mancienne. Yes Mancienne is a very good defender, but looked average against birmingham at home and avergae against QPR away, Stearman was class against the Blues and QPR so why waste 3million on Mancienne when clearly a premiership proven defender like Davenport, and by far Hearts’ best player Berra, would be better.
Kightly needs a few games on the bench to regain his desire and hunger on the pitch.
He needs to play Kyle Reid, because he too is pacey, and works hard and played really well against Middlesborough.
And for all the Albion fans out there, next season is our turn in the Premier League. But this time we will show you how its done.
COME ON YOU WOLVES!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing. David derides Wolves fans for moaning at himself and about their club, yet uses terms such as:
“I’ll say it for you in simple terms, shall I?”
“Sorry, I’ve forgotten – you don’t actually watch the play in matches carefully”.
“we will come good and then you can pretend to be a true and loyal fan again”.
So, David is the fountain of all knowledge, and patronising into the bargain. No wonder you get taken to task, David.
David, I think you need to realise that being a “fan” is not necessarily about turning a blind eye to what’s wrong at a club. Anyone can follow like sheep (it’s common in religious and political circles). You seemingly can’t accept that criticism of Wolves is sometimes justified (not always). Furthermore, you overlook the obvious in that we all see a game differently (even managers disagree), so how can you say that fans “don’t watch the game carefully”? Who says that YOUR particular take on a match (or player) is the correct one? Everyone’s view is subjective.
I don’t want to hear outrageous, unnecessary, scathing attacks on my club, just as you don’t. I also don’t agree with the ‘happy clapper’ bunch of blind optimists, either. However, everyone has an opinion whether you like it or not. Just don’t patronise those who disagree with you…and don’t set yourself up as some kind of ‘Superfan’ because you AINT.
I’ve been a paying fan for nearly 40 years but that still means nothing because my view is no more important than a first-season newbie. I’m no better appreciated by the club, either (nor should I be).
Another thing: don’t kid yourself that “whingeing” or “moaning” Wolves fans will keep good players away from signing. THAT’S UTTER TOSH! Footballers today are mercenaries, by and large, and they couldn’t give two fcuks about where they go PROVIDING the money’s right. Believe anything to the contrary and you’re in Cuckoo Land. They’re tools to do a job, nothing more because the age of loyalty has long since disappeared. Don’t feel too sorry for them because they get very well paid suffer ‘hurt feelings’.
Finally, consider this: many fans who let rip on here go to the games and SUPPORT the team throughout the game, just as you (and I) would approve. Letting off steam on here is therapeutic and doesn’t necessarily reflect their actions at Molineux. As for the constant accusations of ‘fickleness’, I’d remind everyone that these are the same supporters who APPLAUDED the team off the pitch after getting thrashed 6-0 by Southampton.
HARDLY ‘FICKLE’!!!
Some people obviously don’t realise that love for the Wolves causes many and varied emotional reactions between the fans. That’s the price you pay for having some of the most passionate fans in England. It’s also why the Gold & Black flag will keep flying high and will never die. You can’t have it both ways!
