Albion 0 Man United 5 – verdict
Tuesday 27th January 2009, 9:55PM GMT.
Albion were swept aside by Manchester United after going down to 10-men at the Hawthorns.
The Baggies were already trailing to Dimitar Berbatov’s angled finish when Paul Robinson was sent off for a foul on Park Ji-Sung.
Carlos Tevez made it 2-0 before half-time, after home goalkeeper Scott Carson dropped Ryan Giggs’ free-kick.
Nemanja Vidic’s header on the hour meant there was no way back, before Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a brace inside eight minutes to make the scoreline emphatic.
United make it a record 11 Premier League clean sheets as a result.

I saw the game live in Australia this morning, and, there ain;t no way there were 5 goals between the teams. It totally flattered Manure. They always seem to have the run of the ball, and decisions ! just when they need it most. I hate them with a passion.

I do not care if we were down to 10 men, it was a gutless performance from Albion.
We started well but the writing was on the wall before Robinson went off. How many times do we have to repeat it – our defence was a complete shambles! No one seems capable of man-to-man marking.
Robinson’s poor marking led to United’s first goal and Scott Carson gifted United three goals. Yet another Carson howler (they are now becoming too frequent) when he dropped a simple cross ball at the feet of Tevez and two other goals were scored through his legs!!!
I am simply amazed that Tony Mowbray has not seen the need to bring in more quality defenders in this transfer window. This team needs decent DEFENDERS and we need them NOW – before we kiss goodbye to the Premiership.

I would guess that no one is looking through their blue and white goggles enough to suggest that we should have got a result out of that last night, but I think we can all agree that the referee was an absolute joke and ruined any chance that we had of getting a result.
Never a red card, it wasn’t even a foul!!
Never a free kick for their 2nd goal and the 5th was so far offside Ronaldo AND Berbatov were practically on my lap in the Smethwick!!
Rob Styles, you are a disgrace to the entire footballing world and should be hung, drawn and quartered for such an awful performance.
Morning all!

Bring on the Championship, I’m fed up with this Premier League nonesense. Same old story.

STYLES ROB’S ALBION. We went to see a MATCH! We saw a one-sided Whitehall Farce that even Brian Rix would have been too embarrassed to put on stage. Styles should be made reimburse every Albion supporter their entrance fee. Never in 65 years of Albion support have I seen such an incompetent, inept referee. Should he resign? Answers on a used postage stamp to The FA right NOW!
PS: Aussie Baggie, what are they putting in the lager in Upside-Down Land?

Baggies 0 Rob Stiles 5.
What an absloute joke. How can any team get everything their own way???
If we would have been beet 5.0 fair and square I would hold my hands up…. but this is a joke.
Stiles lost his grip on the game, Utd players could see this and were falling over every time a tackle was placed.
Aussie Baggie, I simply do not agree with your comments – we had most of our first team out (unlike UTD), players playing out of position.
And to top it all of as stiles was coming of at the end of the game he was loving the lime light.
There was never 5 goals between the teams and i’m still proud to be a Baggie.

one good thing out of this is robinson will get a suspension

After watching football for 60 years I have never been so insenced as I was last night watching a Referee so biased in his decisions that it prooves to me that the big clubs get all the decisions. Why when Gary Neville demonstrated against a failed penalty claim was he not booked yet the diabolical Mr Styles was showing cards to Albion players without serious justification.
Radio WM reporter sumed it up by saying this man shoul be demoted to a much lower grade of football as he is not fit to adorne to Premiership.
Yours truly
Senior Baggie

Thought we put in a good performance for the first 25 minutes or so, Simpson had that lovely strike go wide…would have loved for us to have scored in time to reuin Van Der Lanks record lol.
It’s hard to believe that one man can actually ruin an entire football game, he is truely an idiot – anyways we have alot of potential on the pitch and it now seems that with have a cutting edge with Simpson and Fortune. Hoping to get a result on Saturday and again against Newcaste, it’s gonna be tough but I still believe we can do it!

firstly, man united are a brilliant team, full of class, but if you can only win the premiership in the way that they won this gamelast night then i really think im leaving the game. I have been going up the hawthornes for 40 + years and i have never, ever seen such a blatantly biased referee in all those years. If rob styles is a premiership ref then im the prime minister. It was never a red card, there was a blatant push on fortune in the box at 0-0, nothing given, van der saartips the ball out for a corner-goalkick. offsides so obvious, not given, throw ins given the other way, the list is endless. I feel so gutted today that im not sure if i ever want to watch another game, i just cant get the bitter taste of cheating out of my mouth, if i did my job as bad as rob styles id have a pile of p45′s bigger than payslips, and yet for all that you just know he’ll continue reffing. And to top it allive had to sit and watch sir alex and co saying how they are finding a ruthless streak and fantastic clean sheets. Mmmmmmm very very easy with 12 men sir alex. nuf sed

Should we write a letter to Keith Hackett?
Rob Styles is the most disgraceful referee ever Bednar was quite right he has lost his marbles!!!
The Man U players surrounded him and Carrick and co were talking to him. off the ball even Van Der Sar probably thanked him after the match for fixing it.
He is a disgrace to football i could of run on to the pitch and taught him a lesson and so could another 27000 Albion Fans!!!!

Never ever have I seen such a one sided game. I agree MU have some great players, and so they should, they cost enough. But the referee was a disgrace and reminded me of the comments of Rafa a couple of weeks ago, they are frightened of MU and their manager. To cap it all every MU player shook hands with Styles at the end, was that to thank him for yet another contribution to their title race.
All we wanted was a level playing field.Well done our lads I’m proud of the way to held your heads up.

Morning guys,
Thought we played well for the first 25 minutes or so which saw a lovely strike from Jay Simpson go wide of the post. Was a real shame that one man managed to ruin the entire game – the one and only Mr Style’s…
At the end of the day united are a class act, their movement and overall play was amazing to watch but what should have been an enticing game of FOOTBALL was overshadowed by that fool of a ref, giving goalkicks when we should have had corners, allowing goals when players were 12 miles offside, booking our players for consent when united were doing it all game…. and got away with it!
We need a result on Saturday against Hull and another reuslt against Newcastle, looking at the team i can definately see a cutting edge with Simpson and Fortune and with Morrison back we have the added attacking quality. I still believe we can stay up, keep the faith! Boing boing!

I totally agree that it was a truly inept performance from the ref last night and we did our very best considering the team we put out – I’m very hopeful for the remainder of the season.
BUT – I think the sending off decision was correct. Take a look again at the TV coverage and you will see Robinson leave the floor with both feet as he goes in to the challenge. You can’t do that in the modern game (we’ve seen opposition players sent off for it at the Hawthorns this season). I don’t think Albion will appeal because of this & I don’t think an appeal would be successful anyway for the same reason.

Oh.. and by the way… Park was their best player for 40 minutes when Robinson was on the pitch, and totally anonymous for the second half when Cech came on……I think that says it all about who should be playing at left back for us

Can’t really add anything, it’s all been said here and with the exception of the disgraceful posts from Aussie and Jesse I agree with all that’s been said. The post that really said it all for me was Hilltop. Last night after witnessing the village idiot’s display I was angry. Having slept on it I feel very sad and like Hilltop I’m left thinking ‘what’s the point?’ In the days of Best, Law and Charlton we all new that they might well tonk us but if they did it would be fair and above board, those days of innocence are gone forever I fear. The likes of Clive Thomas could be a plonker but he was an unbiased plonker. I never thought the day would come but I’m seriously questioning whether it’s worth going to football matches.
PS. No Wulfies on here yet. If any of you are thinking about coming on here gloating think again, you have this level playing field to look forward to next year.

Nedball , Terry… your thoughts?

i am so angry it is really unbelivable!!! rob styles is a joke, throw ins given to the wrong side, biased free kicks, corner kicks given as goal kicks, missed offsides, missed bookings for man u. The thing that really gets on my nerves is sky and tony mowbray, i watched the match again on sky sports 1, the commentators were so far up rob styles’s arse it was unbelieveable!!! he got every decision right apparently!! tony mowbray was interviewed and he basically does not care about the referees biased decisions, he basically admitted he will not do anything about it. Oh and sky sports news have mentioned nothing about rob styles.

Hoff.
Your point about Robbo’s tackle may or may not be correct but I’ve watched replays of Digard’s sending off and feel it was wrong, I also have my doubts that the Spurs lad should have been sent off. Do we really want to take tackling out of football? If I stop going to games I might take up full contact origami instead.

#17, AF16 – I’ve been posting on Bombers’ blog page.
Summary – I’m tired and don’t think a letter to Keith Hackett would help as it’d go completely unnoticed.
Rob Styles is an idiot and a liability.

Rob Styles is a total disgrace, he should be sacked now! Surely the FA have to look into this and see he is not fir to referee!

Agree, It’s about time someone twigged that he’s a plank, the man’s a total sap, gives me the needle, I woodn’t give him a job, if the Prem think he’s a top ref they’re barking up the wrong tree.

Watched the game on Telly down here in Brazil. Thought you played well and had a good go,That Fortune looks good as well. As for Styles I can understand your frustration but to be honest the only difference is that you lost 5 nil instead of 2 or 3 nil! Nobody really expected you to beat them, did they?? you’ve gotta look forward to Hull now,not easy either but at least you’ve got a chance.

Hard to believe that in the modern game, a referee can give one team preferentail treatment, when he is supposed to be impartial and completely get away with it – no questions asked!
That was the WORST refereeing performace i have EVER witnessed – how can he be allowed to ref again?!!!!
