Hednesford 1 Marine 2
Monday 26th January 2009, 5:43AM GMT.
Two defensive errors cost Hednesford the game and top spot in the UniBond Premier League.
Dean Edwards was forced to leave out Ross Dyer when he reported for the game with a hamstring injury. It meant a home debut for Luke Edwards, recently signed from Atherstone United.
In the 15th minute, Tyrone Barnett headed a Sam Hall corner against the bar. The ball rebounded to Elliott Durrell who hit the ball into the ground, which forced the ball up onto the top of the crossbar.
Barnett received a caution in the 18th minute, after he was held on the ground by Wayne McDermott who also received a yellow card. The booking for the Pitmen’s leading goalscorer means he will have to serve a one-match ban.
The hosts took the lead in the 37th minute, Hall playing an excellent cross from the left into the penalty area, where Durrell raced in and placed a shot into the right hand side of the net.
The lead did not last long as within three minutes Marine equalised, after Hall tripped Steve Hussey as he tried to pass him on the right of the penalty area.
Hussey stepped up to take the penalty which he hit low and firm into the left hand side of the net, despite goalkeeper Stuart Brock getting a hand to the ball.
The Keys Park crowd were rocked in the 74th minute, when a mistake by Tom Marshall and Brock when they misjudged the pace on the ball, which allowed Shaun Tuck to nip in and take the ball around Brock.
He finished despite Marshall’s efforts to get back and clear.
