Wolves wait on Mancienne return

Saturday 24th January 2009, 12:02PM GMT.

mancienne1.jpegWolves are playing a waiting game in a bid to re-sign Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne on loan.

Boss Mick McCarthy wants to strengthen the centre of his defence this month and would love to bring the England under-21 international back to Molineux for the rest of the season.

But he is being forced to be patient in his quest and is awaiting the go-ahead from Stamford Bridge, while working on signing other targets.

John Terry’s expected return from a minor back injury in the FA Cup fourth round tie at home to Ipswich might persuade boss Luiz Felipe Scolari to allow Mancienne to come back.

Chelsea also have Ricardo Carvalho, Alex and Branislav Ivanovic as central defensive options, but like McCarthy, counterpart Scolari wants at least two players competing for every place.

Mancienne was recalled by Scolari at the end of his three-month loan at Wolves, after both clubs had initially agreed to extend his stint with McCarthy’s side, only for Chelsea to fail to process the paperwork.

The 20-year-old was expected to be handed his debut in Chelsea’s third round tie against Southend, but was an unused substitute and is still to make his debut.

Wolves conceded just six goals in the eight starts Mancienne made, plus a two more games as substitutes, while they have leaked five in two league matches since his departure.

Oh God yes please!!!! If we could get him on loan till the end of the season, I would be much more optimistic.
Come on Wolves pull out the stops. I’d pay for him on loan, say 300K or something. He is not going to play at Chelsea. Get yourself back here Mancienne! PPLLEEAASSEE

This is Morgans first real test to show he’s commited to Wolves or not.

If we dont get him make sure we get someone with pace and strength in the air.

He isnt the biggest lad but has plenty of pace ,can leap like a frog and is a quick thinker.

Some stuggling premier team will sign him for next to nothing and we will lose out. Never mind we have got COLLINS.

here’s hoping we can get him back on loan he could be vital in our push for promotion…i still say we ought to put a big bid in for him now because if he does come back plays well and helps get us promoted his value will double and be out of our grasp then….£3.5 million offer now morgan i say!!

In all the posts on this site over the past weeks I can only remember reading one negative comment about Mancienne’s ability. For any player to unite Wolves supporters in such a way speaks volumes about his talent.
Scolari knows that to improve, a player needs competetive action. He also knows that he has players available to him at Chelski who are bigger and stronger at the moment than Mancienne. If Mancienne wants to come back I feel sure that he will ask permission and that Scolari will grant it.
    Boy do we need him!!!

Without Mancienne, automatic promotion will be a struggle.

If we could loan him for this season and maybe for a quantity of next then Chelsea would be very well served. In a years time he would be competing seriously for a Chelsea shirt or be away for 7/8 million pounds…

Either way I wish the lad the greatest success. he seemed absolutely first rate.

Mancienne is undoubtably a good player with a good future if he maintained his work rate and consistency. But nothing is certain in life and the happenings in the field.

Having said that, it would be most unlikely that Chelsea will loan him out again given their own injuries problem in the defence.

It will be better for Wolves to find for other option and if there is a chance of signing Mancienne on a permanent basis, it should be looked at before the start of next season if Wolves gained promotion. But an outrageous transfer fee should be avoided.

    Forward the Wolves!!!

If the 3 Ms are serious then show some commitment. Buy him now, £5m is not too much to virtually guarantee promotion. But Mick has to stop experimenting with Steartman and Foley playing out of position!!!

the wolves board are scared to let the money go, i really do think that these people who run the club dont actually want to get wolves promoted, we need players now and when we get into the prem if nad when. if we do get to the promised land then the board will have to spend money for the club to stay up or fear for the team that we will be relegated in the same season

Its is usually the waiting game that we have to endure with Jez Moxey and often we end up with the manager’s third or fourth choice. The quality of the player and potential effect on the team is way down the pecking order.Due to Mick McCarthy’s excellent scouting network there have been a no of notable exceptions in recent years egKightly and SEB,but we seem to be slipping back to the old ways in going for cheaper options that don’t fit the bill eg Hill and Shackell. The club have now only got a few days to show us they have any ambition and selling Davies is not a good start.

The quality drips from this player. If we can get him until the end of the season I would be confident we are going up as champions. He and Stearman looked tremendous together. I don’t believe Chelsea are going to sell a future England regular. If they even hinted they would I would happily pay 6 or 7 million for him. He will be worth at least double that in two years. You can’t lose. Considering his quality and character, having been with the England squad, I don’t believe for a minute he is one of these players who is going to be happy picking up his money playing reserve team football for much longer. He would walk in to 6 or 7 Premiership teams, I am not sure he would take a risk of signing for us now, but he enjoyed his time with us, and with the fans totally behind him as we are, if he can help us to promotion, ask Chelsea what he realistic chances are, I could imagine the prospect of becoming a hero for us might just tempt him. The club will show our ambitions over the next week or so.
My greatest concern is the fact that where money is no object to Chelsea, why would they even bother letting go of such potential for what, essentially, is peanuts to them?

The thing with all this that confuses me is that at some point this season (macarthy realised that collins wasnt good enough) so we signed mancienne. Now however he seems to be persisting with collins, what has changed? collins is not good enough end of story.I am sure we could get him back with a £3m bid.Our form since he went back is P6 W1 D3 L2.In four of these games we been unable to hold a lead.If Macarthy cannot see this I fear the worst.
