The light-middleweight was due to make his bow at Dudley’s ‘the Venue’ in November, only for the show to be cancelled days before the fight. Now Hillox will finally break that duck on the Sunday afternoon show, when he faces Davey Jones.

The born in Florida, raised in Dudley and now resident in Brierley Hill prospect – who doubles up as a male model – has been waiting so long for his first bout, he doesn’t even feel nervous.

He said: “I have been waiting a long time for this one. This is my debut year and I just want to get started. I hope to get six to eight fights under my belt in 2009 – depending on how things go.

“It is not about Davey, it’s all about me really. As long as I am ready for the fight, nothing else matters. I am super fit – I haven’t celebrated Christmas or New Year because I have been preparing for this fight.

“I wasn’t nervous the first time round, so I won’t be this time. I just want to get in there and enjoy it.”

Another middleweight in Telford’s Kieron Gray competes at the Ballrooms hoping to add a title to fatherhood in 2009.

‘Slammer’ enjoyed a fruitful debut year with four wins from his first four pro fights – one by knockout – with a win over Jones on the way. The just turned 31-year-old – a builder by trade – takes on Paul Royston.

His partner is expecting a baby boy in March and Dad hopes to be bringing home a British Masters or Midland title by the end of the year.

He said: “Paul is known as a back foot fighter, where I as will take the fight to my opponent. I expect I will have to go looking for him. But he is another obstacle to where I want to get to – a title shot by the end of the year.”

Cradley’s Chris Male will also compete on the card, taking on Sid Razak in fight number three of his career at super-featherweight.
