Albion face another unwanted FA Cup replay as they conceded a late Hawthorns equaliser for the second successive round.
After Peterborough levelled late on in round three, Burnley grabbed a last minute goal through Martin Paterson to set up a second game at Turf Moor.
Albion midfielders Robert Koren and Kim Do-Heon had earlier given Albion a 2-1 lead after Graham Alexander fired cup specialists Burnley in front from a hotly disputed penalty.
The Baggies also lost captain Jonathan Greening to a first half injury just three days before the Premier League clash with Manchester United.
Albion started brightly, despite another flat Cup atmosphere at the Hawthorns and they dominated the opening stages.
But they could not maintain the tempo and they fell behind midway through the first half courtesy of a hotly disputed Burnley penalty. Greening was adjudged to have shoved Clarets dangerman Robbie Blake in the area and Graham Alexander converted the resulting spot kick.
Albion responded well and they levelled on 31 minutes with a fine strike from Koren. The Slovenian captain rifled home a right footed shot from outside the area from a half-cleared Greening corner.
Burnley should have restored their lead 10 minutes before the interval but the woodwork came to Albion’s rescue as Blake’s powerful shot struck the crossbar and flew to safety.
The Baggies took full advantage in first half stoppage time as Kim was fouled and picked himself up to despatch a 20 yard free kick past returning former Albion keeper Brian Jensen with the aid of a massive deflection.
The second half mirrored the first – but without the goals – as Albion began well but faded later on. They had to ride their luck as Owen Coyle’s men, fresh from reaching the Carling Cup semi-finals, produced a spirited late rally.
Albion needed a fantastic Scott Carson save from substitute Steven Thompson’s header to deny Burnley an earlier equaliser. But in the final minute a cross by Wade Elliott was turned in at the far post by Paterson.

I thought this was a disappointing game and we didn’t take Burnley seriously enough. Attack disappointing yet again – why didn’t we give Fortune a chance to build the promising partnership with Simpson? Burnley might have won it in the end.

oh well, another late goal !!

Can somebody tell our lot that we play for 90 mins not 80, as we always seem to think the games won, when we have only mins to go.

Did anyone notice how much we missed the often maligned Greening once he went off ? The engine room went missing and we faded away. Tuesday’s match is now looking a ‘couldn’t come at a worse time match’ to me. Whoever plays must be prepared to put their body on the line or Scott Carson will have to be even better than yesterday. Burnley’s approach reminded me so much of us last season. Taking almost all their defence off and throwing on more attackers made for a great game and they deserved a replay in the end. May I also remind the Wulfies I got yours right at 1-2 . The almost bottom beat the top on YOUR pitch. It’s a BIG, BIG jump you’re about to take. I hope you’re ready for it.

Told you so!!!
Burnley are an up and coming force and they are nobodys pushover.
Your priority is premier league status, you do not need cup replays, I reckon TM will field his bench and a few second teamers for the replay, makes good sense to me, they might even pull it off.
Either way I wish you good luck.

if bednar had taken half his chances we would cruised to victory, bring on the mancs

Loosing Jonathan Greening is a massive blow for
us.
The first thing Jeremy Peace should do is sack
our muppet fitness coach Dan Harris,11 players
out injured is an absolute joke,Iam sure this
is the bloke who done the same thing at Blues.
I dont mean to sound negative but I can see
United putting 7 past us due to our injury
problems, the only team I can come up with which
gives us any chance is:
Carson,Hoefkens,Zuiverloon,Pele,Robinson,
Simpson,Cech,Valero,Koren,Fortune,Bednar.

“Hotly disputed penalty” …hmm… thats one way to put it i suppose, although “Joke Decision” would’ve been more truthful!
Fair result in the end, we had a lot of chances and could’ve won 4 or 5, but the 2nd half was a classic end to end cup tie and Burnley had some real good chances also – so no-one can complain with a draw really. Both sides hit the woodwork, both keepers made good saves and both teams missed good chances. They were handed the lead with a bizarre penalty decision (well done ref, thanx for that mate)and we took the lead with a big deflection. Don’t fancy us in the replay though!

Still think Mr Carson should have not hesitated on their 2nd goal. A bit more confidence and conviction he would have come out and gathered it. It’s little blips like that, that let him down unfortunatley.

14 – Agree with you that Carson was at fault for the second goal. If you look at the replay on tv, he was flapping around behind our defender and their attacker and got nowhere near the ball, leaving Patterson with an open goal. Very frustrating as his earlier save was world class. (In saying he was at fault I am of course ignoring the ease with which Robinson allowed the cross to come in – but better not say it too loudly or he might come round & give me a mouthful of abuse).
PS Thought my namesake was terrible again on Saturday, but we don’t have any options at the moment, especially now Donk has joined the injury list so Zuvi will need to play at centre half.

Number 3 I think one of us will have to change our name. This the first baggiepaul post I have seen that I did not send.

what was christiano bednar doing

17 – It was Hoff and Valero not communicating that led to the equaliser.
Pele tracked his man, but Valero and Hoff both went with Blake and left Paterson running past Hoff. If they’d have shouted across to one another about the bloke at the far post Hoff wouldn’t have stopped and left him open.
Missed chances came back to bite us on the behind again didn’t they?
We missed Greening when he went off too.

robbo is a disgrace, he cant mark, he has no positioning, he again reacts to fans (block d2 halfords on sat) which was the 2nd incident in the last month, and ive lost count how many goals have in some way been associated to robbo. I feel sorry for marech cech, when you as accountable as robbo is to our leaky defence its hard to see why he gets in week after week.

Nedball- the cross should of never come over in the 1st place, how many chances does robbo get.

disappointing again.. i thought after the night they had against spurs, get at the from the off and try and get a early lead and i think they would have just folded
but…we decided to do it the hard way..not too worried about united game i don’t expect anything other than defeat, just hope we have a decent team available to put out against hull.
ROBBO OUT!!!

Fellow Posters, I totally agree with the expressive views posted on this blog. Paul Robinson has been a nick in the armour of the west bromwich defensive machine for too long.

Marek Cech is ace i agree, give him a chance
Now no ones said about Carson yet the fact he continually punted it upfield from a goalkick in the second half and 9/10 times (i think) it came strait back. Then they score kinda simple really. Dont get me wrong Englands number one great saves but needs to play well for 90 mins and think about passing to defenders so we can work it from the back!
