The Nissan Micra C+C

In 2005 Nissan introduced a convertible version of its popular Micra supermini.

Called the Micra C+C, the car boasted a metal folding roof and a choice of 1.4 and 1.6-litre petrol engines.

High levels of equipment were available, including Nissan’s keyless ignition system, and there were originally four trim levels. The car was designed at Nissan’s London design studio.

Engines

Being a niche model, don’t expect the same wide choice of engines as you’d find with a regular Micra.

The C+C comes with either a 1.4 or 1.6 petrol unit. The former is pleasingly economical and quiet but the latter proves more satisfying thanks to its greater performance.

Exterior

The C+C looks like a Micra from the front but, predictably, deviates from the plan at the rear.

At the back the changes have allowed the car to accommodate a metal folding roof mechanism. Thankfully it all looks fine – some larger cars aren’t so easy on the eye.

Interior

Although realistically a two seater thanks to the modest amount of room in the back, there is plenty of space up front for two occupants.

And it’ll all feel familiar to Micra fans – everything is well-built and the controls sensibly placed near the driver.

Driving

You don’t buy the Micra C+C for its performance prowess. What you will buy it for is its ability to deliver a smooth, refined and easy to drive experience.

The 1.6 petrol variant is more rewarding if you do a lot of miles, while the 1.4 model is great if just want to potter around town looking stylish.

Ownership

What could be better than this winning combination of durable supermini and compact convertible?

It’s fair to say that the Micra C+C is hard to beat.

Easy to park, easy to drive and cheap to run, with its all-weather powered retractable roof this Micra offers the best of both worlds.

What to look for

The priority is to ensure that the roof works.

It’s a complex device and could prove costly to repair if it’s misbehaving.

Elsewhere, exterior damage – like parking dents, kerbed wheels – and any malfunctioning equipment should be viewed with extreme caution.

And don’t forget the test drive, which will help highlight any mechanical issues that could be costly to put right.

Reasons to Buy

Small, easy to drive and park; clever folding roof; all-weather practicality.

Reasons to Beware

Not a car for enthusiastic drivers; 1.4 engine lacks oomph; light coloured interiors don’t wear well.

Pick of the Range
