Reid eyes permanent Wolves stay

Friday 16th January 2009, 3:40PM GMT.

kyel-reid3New Wolves signing Kyel Reid insists he’s come to Molineux to win a permanent deal.

The 21-year-old winger’s contract at West Ham expires in the summer and Reid has come to Wolves to put himself in the shop window.

Reid said: “My contract is up at West Ham at the end of the season and I’m coming here with my options open.”

The Londoner admits he has a fight to win a place in the side and accepts he’s likely to start his Wolves career on the bench.

Reid added: “I know Wolves already have two very good wingers in Michael Kightly and Matt Jarvis -the manager mentioned that in our conversations.

“That didn’t put me off and it’s just down to me to show what I can do and try to force my way into the team. It just makes it more of a challenge.

“If I’m on the bench and coming on that’s when I’ll have a chance to make an impression. I’ve just got to do what I know I can do and hopefully the manager will see something he likes.

“It will be good to be part of a team aiming for something. Hopefully we’ll still be in the same position at the end of the season and everyone will be happy.”

Reid knows Richard Stearman and the departed Michael Mancienne from England age group squads and wants to wow the fans with his exciting wing play.

The wide man said: “I’m a winger who likes to take people on, that’s my natural position. My job is to get down the wing and put crosses in and sometimes get on the scoresheet as well.

“The manager said he’d been watching me so it’s nice to have made an impression.”

“If the gaffer brings someone in I’ve just got to work that bit harder to try to keep my place if I’m in the team.”

“You see the speculation, it’s good for the squad if someone does come in. You don’t want it to be your position but it’s good for the team overall. If anyone coming in can help us to promotion, that’s the main aim.”

Commenting on all of the stories in E&S:
Firstly we’ll have to see about Kyel Reid, but if he is free to sign in the summer could well be worth it. Only time will tell.

Dave Edwards did very well at RB on Tuesday, could play there again no probs.

Keogh and Vokes deserve a start against Bristol, they did very well on Tuesday and Iwelumo and Blake have looked very average (at best) for some time now.
I think there will be two more signing in this window and the return of Mark Davies will be like a third.
COME ON YOU WOLVES :-) IN MICK I TRUST

While I dont think it would be fair on Ebanks-Blake to drop him, the pairing of Keogh and Vokes does have something that the partnership of Iwelumo and EB doesnt have. We have seen it, not only against Blues, but also in games such as Blackpool away where they make things happen because of their movement, and ability off the ball.

I dont think Keogh deserves the stick he gets. Iwelumo, and EB scores more goals, and are certainly better strikers, but they do not have Keoghs pace, or movement.

He hasn’t kicked a ball in anger for Wolves yet!!
Let’s see tommorrow, a big game on telly and a chance to impress which by the way, they have flattered to deceive so far this season on t.v.

keogh needs confidence and a shooting coach. Everything else is there.

I would like to see Vokes as he brings others into play. I also think he actually is a goal scorer. He and EB to start with Chris coming on when the defense is a bit tired. Or Chris and vokes could start with EB coming on later.

I’m not sure EB and Chris can cut it together now that the opposition have got wise to them.

Lets hope for another run. I would play Craddock – he should have played in the week and I|’m concerned he might be going on loan. We’ll need his experience when the going gets really tough.

Mcindoe is very big news everywhere because he plays for a club bigger than Wolves doesn’t he? There’s Becks and there’s Mcindoe. We were so lucky to have him for a season – he did us a real favour. Noit sure he’s playing – probably dropped!

    7. very true. I would start with SEB & Vokes as SEB scores early on & can finnish a penalty and Vokes knows where the goal is & is hungry for more goals!

I’m not saying I think Keogh and Vokes are better players than Ebanks-Blake and Iwelumo, just I would start them (the others on the bench so could be brought on) for their display against Blues and because the SEB and ‘lumes’ partnership is looking a bit stale at the minute. Just mix it up a bit cus it looks like teams have got us ‘sussed’ and we’re finding it harder to score.
