A new scheme to cut down on alcohol-related crime has been launched in Walsall.
The Best Bar None Awards will assess the borough’s pubs, bars and clubs on a range of safety issues.
All licensed premises across the borough are welcome to enter for an award, which include Best Bar and Best Pub.
A glitzy awards ceremony will take place in March at The Village Hotel in Walsall.
Supported by the Home Office, the scheme brings together the police, Walsall Council and other agencies alongside town centre pubs and clubs to help promote responsible drinking.
Venues will be assessed on a host of safety issues, from staff training and planned emergency exit strategies, to the supply of taxi or public transport information.
Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Tom Ansell, who attended the launch yesterday, at The Crossing at St Paul’s, in Darwall Street, said it was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the nightlife on offer in the borough.
Inspector Steve Blake, from Walsall Police, added: “This is an opportunity for licensed premises to demonstrate their commitment to safety, security and responsible drinking.”
