Pub plan for club rejected by chiefs

A traditional social club in Willenhall will not be turned into a pub after controversial plans stirred up a row with neighbours.

Spring Lane Social Club, in Spring Lane, was taken over by developers last January who spruced it up and re-opened it.

But neighbours living near the club were appalled when a plan was submitted to change it into a pub.

They claimed it was a residential area with lots of elderly people and young families.

Council planning officers agreed the proposal would effect nearby residents and refused it.

They said that the plan would cause an increase in noise and disturbance.

GT Designs, acting on behalf of the applicant, had argued the change of use to a pub would be a boost to the community.
