No need to sell for Saddlers
Saturday 10th January 2009, 10:13AM GMT.
Walsall do not have to sell any of their prized assets during the transfer window, but chief executive Roy Whalley admits every player has a price.
Defender Anthony Gerrard remains on the transfer list and is the most likely to depart the Banks’s Stadium this month.
But it has been confirmed the club are yet to receive any offers for 22-year-old Gerrard, who became a father last Sunday.
Whalley insists the club are under no pressure to sell the former Everton trainee or any other player to balance the books.
He said: “Some clubs need to sell to survive – look at West Ham – and fortunately because of the way this club is run we are not in that situation, but every player has a value.
“If an offer came in which matched or exceeded our valuation then we would look at it very, very seriously, but so would any side outside the top four.
“This month a lot of clubs need to sell players. It is a very difficult environment, financially, for all clubs. The opportunity to sell players in order to balance is very important.”

How about looking at players to bring in at a price instead of a continual line of freebees

Remind me ~ Has the team seen any of the money from the earlier sale of Scot Dann and Danny Fox. Perhaps its sitting in a big pot ready to be spent on 2 or 3 new players who might make a difference and bring the fans flooding back to the Bescot…..dream on and on…
