Sisters have lowdown on Cinders
Friday 9th January 2009, 11:28AM GMT.
Youngsters in Staffordshire are set to tell the ‘true story of Cinderella’ – through the eyes of the Ugly Sisters – at Rugeley Rose Theatre.
Stars Academy of Young Performers will showcase their talent between Thursday and Saturday next week.
The Fairy Godfather, Snow Light and Weeping Beauty will be making an appearance, alongside Cinders, her loyal friend Cadbury and Prince Charming, in the tale written especially for the group by academy teacher Simon Stokes.
This will be the second pantomime performed by Stars Academy at the Rugeley Rose following their hit last year, Captain Hook’s Revenge.
All the performers are aged between 13 and 17 and are working towards accredited drama qualifications.
Academy principal Jacquie Ross, said: “We decided to do a slightly different take on the Cinderella story as we find most people love the baddies and we wanted to focus more on the comedy characters.
“Simon and I are extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our kids have put into this show and, although they are still young, they will put on a completely professional performance.”
Manager of the theatre, Katie Love, added: “It is great to be able to use our theatre to display the talent on our doorstep.
“I hope the people of Rugeley and surrounding areas will come and support them in their efforts and see what a great show they have put together.”
Shows will be performed each evening at 7.30pm with a matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday.
Tickets at £5 (£4 for children and concessions) are available from the Rose Theatre on 01889 584036.
