Simpson sets double figure target
Monday 5th January 2009, 1:17PM GMT.
Albion new-boy Jay Simpson has set himself a 10-goal target to fire the Baggies to Premier League safety.
The 20-year-old Arsenal youngster believes he can reach double figures in the goal charts, after joining the Baggies on loan for the rest of the season.
He reckons a 10-goal return would go a long way to keeping his new club in the top flight.
Simpson said: “I think people can expect goals from me if i play up front. I’m aiming for 10 goals but if I can get more that’s brilliant. If I fall short then I know I have work to do.
“The manager has said we need seven wins. If I can get 10 goals then I’m sure that can contribute to those wins. I’m delighted to be here. The gaffer’s brought me here to get Premier League experience and hopefully I can reward him.
“I want to get experience and go back to Arsenal a better player and, while I’m here, help this club get out of the position we’re in. They play good football. I’ve watched them a lot and been impressed by how they play.
“I had a relegation battle on loan at Millwall last season and I’m looking forward to this one.
“I’m confident West Brom are good enough to stay up. Playing good football doesn’t necessarily win games but I think there are a lot of players up for the fight. If we can combine the two we’ll do OK.”
