Kidderminster left their FA Cup quest at Coventry with the re-focus on a promotion/FA Trophy double still in their sights.

The Blue Square Premier outfit went out 2-0 to their Championship opponents in Saturday’s third round tie, which drew 3,000 Harriers fans to the Ricoh Stadium.

Midfielder Russell Penn insists they will not spend fret over the end of their dreams of glory, as the second round FA Trophy tie at Unibond League outfit Ilkeston this weekend moves quickly into view.

He said: “We’re disappointed because we know they can play better on the ball than we showed in the Coventry game.

“But it was a good experience and we move on now. It’s all about the Trophy and the League now for us. The Trophy is our real chance to go back to Wembley again and we are desperate to do that.

“It is important we stay in the hunt for promotion. I haven’t seen a team in the division to frighten us yet, but we are a young side and with that sometimes comes inconsistent results.”

Penn was only just shaded by captain Mark Creighton in Harriers’ Man of the Match ratings, although the defender was disappointed that the team made problems for themselves.

Creighton said: “The effort was there from the start, but I thought we were poor in the first half.  We didn’t keep the ball well enough and invited pressure on ourselves – but there were some nervous lads out there.

“They give you more time on the ball and don’t really close you down as much as other teams we play. They let you play.

“We gave it a real go once they scored, but it wasn’t to be. We  did well to get where we did, but it is disappointing. We conceded early in the second half and we might have scored after that.”

Creighton reserved special praise for Kidderminster’s following.

He added: “The fans were great – a really good turn-out. I don’t think the Coventry fans were that interested in the match, but our fans made it a real cup-tie atmosphere.”
