Defender tipped to bounce back

clement.jpgTony Mowbray today backed injury-plagued defender Neil Clement to battle back strongly from his latest season-ending setback.

The Baggies boss believes Clement still has the will to return despite having another campaign wrecked by ongoing knee problems.

Mowbray confirmed yesterday that Clement was unlikely to play any part in this season as he recovers from surgery on his right knee.

“It is a big disappointment, especially after he did so well last season,” said Mowbray. “He thought he was coming out of a long tunnel when he got himself fit and went to Hull on loan and did so well.

“He came back to us and played in some crucial games for us at the end of the season, bringing experience and steadying the ship.

“He would have hoped to play his part this season. It’s frustrating for all of us.

“It’s part and parcel of football and Neil will have to get on with it, but he has had more setbacks than most. Hopefully there will be light at the end of the tunnel for him, starting next season.”

Mowbray is optimistic the sickness bug that has swept through the Albion camp will clear in time for the FA Cup third round clash with Peterborough on Saturday.

He cleared the training ground from Monday until today in a bid to prevent the illness spreading.

“I would hope by Thursday they will all check back in,” he said. “There are a few people under the weather, which is why we cleared the building for a few days to try to stop the spread and get everyone back on their feet to go again.

“It can drag on for a while but they are young athletes so hopefully they get over it a lot quicker.

“Let’s hope it’s finished by this weekend. It’s dripped along for a few weeks now and hopefully we’ll have no more.”

Feel sorry for the bloke however i think his time is up, its very hard to come back from 2 major injuries like that in 2 concecutive years..I think he should possibly hand up his boots and take a coaching role at the club, he has great experience he knows the game like the back of his hand so i think he should come a coach in the not too distant future..

Great shame, but i do think he’ll come back (hopefully)regardless of what division we’re in next season.

He has so much of what we’ve been lacking this season – experience.

3 sucsessful promotions from the 2nd tier (1st div / coca-cola etc..) 2 play-off near misses (semi-final & final). 3 full premiership campaigns (2 battling relegation and of course, The Great Escape)and all during his time at Albion! He has been instrumental in our most successful recent period (Megson-Robson-Mowbray)and all this after coming in on loan from Chelsea to save us, against the odds, from relegation to the 3rd tier of english football!

He’s certainly no stranger to drama!

All the best Neil, coming back from this should be a sroll in the park for you mate!!

Clem, we’re all thinking of you and hope you return to us IN THE PREM next season. Loyalty like yours is rare these days and that makes you a Baggy for life.

If it is the end of the road for Clem then the club should offer him a coaching role like appy

I can see Clem giving it one last go but only if
he`s still on course for pre-season,if he needs
another operation before hand then he could hang
    up his boots for good.

What short memories you have, it’s not that long ago he was giving it the “Big I am” and would have to move away from WBA if we didn’t get promotion (Megson era) he’s lucky the club are prepared to look after him like they have.

    Lets face it, he’s finished.
