Cech wins seal of approval

Albion boss Tony Mowbray today saluted summer signing Marek Cech for starring against Tottenham after a nightmare spell in training.
Mowbray revealed that Cech’s man-of-the-match display against Spurs followed the worst fortnight of his frustrating first season at The Hawthorns – including falling foul of the Baggies’ discipline policy.
Mowbray said: “It was a tough couple of weeks for him. Sometimes you feel the whole world is against you and everything goes wrong.
“He’s had a few issues disciplinary-wise – a bit of lateness, a bit of this and a bit of that. Everything mounts up. He probably felt as if I was only here to take money off him, which isn’t the case. But there needs to be a consistency, whether it’s the captain or one of the young lads.
“If there’s a breach of discipline then it needs to be dealt with. But Marek is generally a good lad and I’m glad he found a performance which endeared him to supporters and his team-mates.”
Cech produced an impressive display in the 2-0 win against Spurs after being handed a first start in his preferred position at left back.
And Mowbray admits the performance has handed him a potential selection headache with Paul Robinson now free from suspension.
But Mowbray is refusing to rule out the experienced Robinson regaining the full-back berth.
“There’s no disguising Marek played well and he is a player we brought in to compete with Paul Robinson,” said Mowbray.
“I don’t know how many man-of-the-match awards Paul Robinson has this season but his performance levels have been consistently high.
“Marek was frustrated, which I understand. But that’s football and I’m delighted Marek showed our fans what a good player he is. That’s why we paid £1.4m for.”
