Time to map out a plan for Villa's future
- Says blogger Matthew Turvey
Magpies plot Kightly swoop
Tuesday 30th December 2008, 12:10PM GMT.
Newcastle have launched a pre-transfer window enquiry for Wolves winger Michael Kightly – as Everton boss David Moyes made a personal check on Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.
Sources on Tyneside say the Magpies have tentatively put the feelers out for Kightly to the Molineux top brass and are awaiting an answer.
Moyes, who is without three injured strikers, was at Blackpool last night to see Ebanks-Blake score a penalty and set up Matt Jarvis for Wolves’ second in the 2-2 draw.
The Everton chief was a regular at Molineux last season.
But like any enquiry or bid coming Wolves’ way when the window opens in two days’ time, any interest will be met with a firm rejection with the promotion bid in full flow.
Kightly, who lost his ever-present record when he was suspended last night, signed a new four-year contract in June. That was seen as a statement of intent by player and club to ward off speculation in the summer linking him with Everton, Middlesbrough, West Ham and Blackburn.
Newcastle, where Joe Kinnear has the job for the rest of the season and funds to spend in January, have retained an interest in the 22-year-old however.
And the Geordies need a wide man after losing the versatile James Milner for £12m to Villa in the last window.
Kightly only recently clarified his position in declaring himself happy at Molineux after being linked with a £5m move to Bolton.
He said at the time: “It’s nice to be linked with Premier League clubs because it means I’m doing something right.
“But I’m focused on Wolves. I’ve said from Day One I’m happy here, I love the club. The boys are tremendous – unbelievable.
“So there’s no reason for me to look for a move because I’m happy here and hopefully I can get to the Premier League with Wolves.”
Kightly and Ebanks-Blake are the latest two players to become subject of Premier League interest. Keeper Wayne Hennesseywas watched by Arsenal in the 1-0 win at Doncaster.

DO WE? .. WE CAN PLAY JUST AS BAD WITHOUT HIM AS WE CAN WITH HIM.
HARDLY SETTING THE WORLD ON FIRE LATELY IS HE..IF THERE’S GOOD MONEY TO BE HAD FOR HIM..THEN GET IT.
Kights is one of the 3/4 players we need to keep if we do get to the Prem… if we sell him we might as well not bother with promotion as I would guarantee that we would be straight back down..
No.3 Joe, you’re spot on mate.
He didn’t play against Swansea away. Just another example of poor research by the Express and Star yet again.
I know this comment won’t make it through moderation, just like last year when I pointed out another mistake they’d made.
Anyway, Kightly going to Newcastle is a laughable proposition. In the summer if we fail to get promotion then maybe, but I’m sure someone bigger and better will come in for him.
I don’t think any of our stars will be going until the end of the season at the earliest and then only if we don’t get promoted.
We need players in mind! Central midfielder with a bit of clout and can pass, a winger (CEdwards, Sinclair,…) at least!
Get Mancienne for the season too!!!!!!!!! We need him!!!!!!!!11
Report abuse
Lol not good enought for the prem – non of your players!

E&S do your research. Kightly didn’t lose his ever present tag last night. He missed the Swansea away game through injury

Kites won’t leave, I think that he feels that MM gave hime a chance and he is willing to pay this back. I also agree with 6, Superstardjwolves, Newcastle will be down nand he won’t want to be playing football in the championship with them. Come on boys, lets do some good this year. We need to get a gap now from thrid place.

Moyes is definitely after SEB, he’s been in the stands quite a lot now.
Seriously they can naff off if they think they’re gonna be offering measly sums of 3mil or something like that.
These players are worth 10mil + to Wolves.

Need to be adding a third winger, Andy Driver please, not selling.
9 – you’re nearly right both newcastle and albion will be in the championship next year while kites will be flying high in the prem with wolves.
maybe they’ll sell you a shirt sponser
Report abuse
look what happened to Watford when they were top and sold the likes of King last year – dropped like a stone. No way can we sell any of Kightly, Ebanks-Blake, Jarvis, Stearman, Foley etc if we have any serious ambition. Especially when Reading and Birmingham are going to be chasing our tail all season… long way to go!
Sell him, get about 5 million and buy Scott Sinclair for 2 million. Make a profit and replace him with a better player.

Lets keep our heads here, and I hope MM is keeping the players focused as they must be thinking about all the attention.
We need a couple of back up players not sell anyone, and if Steve M backs us we do not need the money unless it will deliver as good as or better players and if they were there the Prem boys would be looking else where.
9.Correct, i think it will scare him off knowing Robbo is hungry and after more dingle blood aye
Kightly will go if he is offerd a 30k a week salary, Newcastle or Wolves?? Geordie boys for me….This also reminds me a little like pre season when Robbo was linked with Celtic.. See you soon Kightly (:

No chance!! wolves dont need to sell! players are happy, it would take crazy money for anyone to leave.
Why on earth would he want to go to Newcastle?
Why would Wolves want to sell him?
Only reason I would sell was if I got enought to buy a new stadium and buy a full premiership team.
Newcastle are NUTS.
We must keep him and the others, tell the vultures to clear off, we need our top players for the push into the prem.
We have no reason to sell any player and have the cash available to strengthen, not weaken !
Maybe suggest a silly amount so the can politely “go away”, but saying that they did buy Alan Smith !
Would seem insane to sell. though he will go for less if we fail to go up.
26 – you have never seen such rubbish in your life? and that comes from a Blues fan! Didn’t Blackpool beat you at St Andrews a month ago? Don’t worry about us we will take of ourselves, you should concern yourselves with your team. As for Sandwell fans and Robinson, thought yow played the beautiful game under Mowbray and would eschew the thuggery of a brute like Robinson. Ah well, same same old.
sorry to say in the end the owner will decide if Kites stays – does it make business sense to sell him now ?
obviously if we go up players like Kightly are needed, but football is all about the next and the last game, it will be an interesting month. I think we still need to strengthen midfield what ever happens.
wolves are a bigger club than sandwell tez boyyyyyy..Welcome back boys and will be nice to play a big club for a change in the local derbys..
terry baggie you only spout off when you win a game so we’ll hear from you again around the end of feb see you then
Report abuse
Same for all clubs. We’re getting it with Doyle, Hunt etc but in reality chances are they will all hang around until the end of the season and take it from there. If the club has gone up they will stay – if not then they will leave with a certain amount of ‘loyalty’ having been shown.
why are there so many baggie fans posting on wolves pages?? do you have nothing else to look at but our greatness?? and stop making stupid posts that make no sense – you have no idea what you’re talking about.

As an albion fan i’d just like to say that enough money will buy any of your players same as any club. however with your chairman and position in the league both these players wouldnt leave for less than 6 or 7 mil. and i dont think people will take a chance on unproven championship players for that price. Both are very good players but as yet unproven at top level. Lets hope all the midland clubs are prem next year.

Every player has his price, but in the current financial climate it’s unlikely any team will be offering high enough money to tempt us.
Everton need to save money for their new stadium, and Newcastle have been unable to find a new buyer to offer fresh investment.
I also doubt their fanbase will be happy to see them spend huge money on players who’ve never played above Championship level.
No.50 That’s a bit impolite isn’t it? Be gracious, and less unsophisticated. Regarding a shirt sponsor, probably before you were interested, and way before football became trendy and palatable, clubs didn’t have shirt sponsors, and the shirts looked a hell of a lot better, even the orange ones you wear to work/bed/weddings etc. As for selling the club, there’s a global financial crises currently, but it would take ages to explain that to you. In addition, wolves were sold for a tenner, so no big money changing hands there either.

A Cold night -Blackpool spurred on by the home crowd-Keeping warm was a problem for all and lets face it who wants to be in Blackpool when its 3 degrees below. ” Who wants to be there anyway”
Not a good performance by the team but lets face it it was like playing on ice-KH in goal needs to look at his style a stopper yes but no bottle when it comes to crosses.
Matt was the only threat but I think it took him ages to get the ball and after he scored he never got it back.
Defense- we are ill disciplined to many “Action Men” chasing the ball instead of the man. Foley was out of position but did his best-Difficult to be critical but-We did not look like a team that is Top of the Champ-But have we over the last three games looked any different.
BUT we are top at Xmas – MK must stay till we get up that should be certain already mentioned in the Blogg Newcastle could replace us -What does he gain.

if kites, seb or any of our players have got written in there contracts that they can leave for x ammount of pounds or talk to prem clubs then there is nothing jez, mick or mr morgan can do about it.
Just like we lost lescott.
I agree no.45, it is up to the ‘owners’, which is why he won’t be sold because with the promotion race, management understands we need players like kites, SEB, Iwelumo etc, and right now that’s priority and offers will be rejected, the premiership clubs need to accept that, other than showin an interest for perhaps puttin in an offer in the summer. Even then will only be considered if we don’t get promotion.
Terry Baggie has made more comments in 3 WOLVES blogs than he has on every Albion blog combined since the start of the season, you can’t blame him for wanting in on the limelight of a real club, not a bunch of tesco bags floating at the bottom of the league who actually think the great escape is on because they managed to fluke a win against 10 men Spurs, watch this space relegation is a dead cert. As for ‘scary Robbo’ lol – with that 10 game spell with no win i’d have though it was fairly obvious by now that no one so far has seemed to have a problem getting past him. BOING BOING

We should sell Kightly as Mick thinks Foley is a right winger, no wait he’s a left winger, hang on a minute he’s a left back.
Never mind, at least it means he could bring Ward on just so he can give away a stupid free kick for them to equalise.
And where was Collins all night? He is supposed to be there to win the ball in the air and he didn’t win anything!!
Shocking Mick, the slide to playoff defeat will begin if you think these players are good enough. The Blackpool draw was down to your poor team selection and poor substitutions.

It’s simple: Wolves won’t -and don’t have to- sell Kightly. If he wanted out by any chance, fine, bugga him off. I want nobody at the mighty Wolves who aint 100% committed to the cause because nobody’s bigger than WWFC. In fairness though, he’s never said he’s looking to leave.
As for the Sandwell muppets who post on here, you gotta laugh. A couple of wins and they’re invincible. Great Escape II? What a laugh. Keep dreaming, Swampies, it’ll only be even more painful when you finally get relegated. You lot have got two hopes: hope and no hope. Great fun, though, watching you lot THINK you’ve got a chance. Since i went to my very first Wolves match aged five in 1971/72 season(v Leeds,1.1)i can recall only a handful of true-TRUE heroes to Wolves fans,Derek ‘The Doog’ Dougan,KING John Richards,Kenny Hibbit and of course the ‘Hero of all Heroes’ Steve Bull.Yes theres been a few who’ve earned ‘cult’ status and a few who would of been right up there is they’d of stayed at the club(such as Robbie Keane).Michael Kightly became a fans favourite almost as soon as he signed for Wolves and the fact that the team totaly disintegrated when he was out for so long last season proved his worth to the club. The fans love him,hes the current idol in a young team devoid of real stars at the moment. We need to keep him and also SEB as those are the two players MM will be building a Premiership team around(IF we get there!).Personaly i think we should look at buying Carlos Edwards from Sunderland as he can fill in for either Kites or Jarvis and also look again at Arron Maclean,he looks to have a bit more power than SEB and i think the competition would push their games further.
As for the FA Cup-FORGET IT-play the reserves,we carnt risk injuries and dont need any distractions at this crucial time!!!
We’re ticking along just as we need to be at this stage of the season, a few blibs in selections but if you don’t play the players that we have how can they be assessed? So long as we don’t have too many injuries, this squad will do the job! At least we are not looking relegation in the face, AYE TERRY!! Boing Clunk!

74, Ward’s run and cross lead to our second goal, and apart from Jervis was our most creative player. You can’t go 90 minutes without conceding a few free kicks – you have to be able to defend set pieces! We need players to have the confidence to get tackles in, or the opposition will just walk it in!

Sell Collins and S.Ward? The same Collins, who before Monday, scored 2 in 2? And the same S.Ward that started the counter which lead to the second goal at Blackpool? Fair enough, they make mistakes, but by helping us bag more goals, are they not deserving of more chances?

The problem is not MM or the players….ITS STEVE MORGAN!
If North Wales papers are to be believed – and they carry a lot of news from the North West – not just North Wales – then Morgans Property based business empire is suffering BIG TIME from the recession…
The rumours re Everton and SEB and I’ve also seen Man City linked with Kightly and Hennessy – are NOT coming just from football people…
They are coming from BUSINESS ASSOCIATES of Morgan – aware that he has to liquidate some assets and quickly…
Sadly – the timing could NOT BE WORSE…The January window gives him that chance…
Right now what do you think is easier to sell…SEB and Kightly or a block of appartments that have sat empty for 12 months as no one is buying property….
I fear a firesale…..
anyone know anyone who wants some appartments….QUICK!

Cardiff Wolves – Whilst I understand what you are saying, I think if Morgan has any sense he will risk keeping the players; us getting promoted and then trouser the £30million Sky money. —:—:–October -31pts top of the league
