A school is celebrating after it was rated as “outstanding” after an Ofsted inspection.

Windsor High School, Halesowen, got top marks in 19 categories. In the remaining six categories it was rated as “good”.

There are 1,376 pupils aged between 11 and 16 at Richmond Street school, which specialises in sport and science.

Inspector Paul Brooker, said: “The school meets the academic and personal development needs of individual pupils outstandingly well.”

Head Keith Sorrell said: “We are all delighted with the report. Students, staff, parents and governors have all worked hard to achieve this level of excellence.

“I am really pleased that our success as a school should be formally recognised and praised by Ofsted”. Inspectors visited 25 lessons, and met the head and nominated staff, governors and groups of pupils.

They observed work and looked at more than 300 questionnaires returned by staff and parents of pupils.

Mr Brooker said he was particularly impressed with the high standard of work and the good progress made in lessons and overtime.

He also said there was an “excellent range of opportunities” for the pupils provided by the school both through the curriculum and extra-curricular activities.

The “high quality of teaching” was praised as well as the “positive and wide-ranging contributions” made to the wider community. It was one of the first schools to be inspected under new regulations.
