Korean winger checks in for Albion trial

Korean winger Yeom Ki-hoon has joined Albion on trial – and Slovenian striker Zlatko Dedic was also linked with a move to The Hawthorns this afternoon.

Yeom, aged 25, has checked in at the Baggies for a week’s training as manager Tony Mowbray weighs up his January transfer options.

And the agent of Frosinone striker Dedic, 25, says Albion are among the clubs who are keen to bring him to England.

Ulsan Tigers midfielder Yeom picked up the K-League rookie of the year award in 2006 and has scored three goals in 20 games at full international level for Korea. Slovenia international Dedic, who has 13 caps and plays for Frosinone in Serie A, has also played for Parma and Empoli.

Agent Michele Palmisano told the Italian media: “Stoke City and West Bromwich from England and some German clubs including FC Koln have contacted me personally (about Dedic).”

The latest speculation came as Paul Robinson urged Albion to target ‘fighters’ in the crucial transfer window – and admitted they are short of ‘Great Escape’ characters.

But Robinson claimed the current Baggies team is better than the famous side of 2005 and insisted they can still pull their season from the fire.

And he said: “There probably aren’t the same characters now but we have got quality players this year to change a game. This squad is better footballing-wise and it’s got the ability to create chances and score goals.

“At that time the dressing room had a lot of characters who could deal with a lot of situations.

Robinson is keen that any new faces should pass the ‘loyalty test’. He said: “It’s about getting the right mixture to balance the squad off.

“We’ve got to be careful to get the right players. We need people who want to come here and play for this club and not just want to come because of where we are playing.

“That’s a decision that the gaffer and chairman have got to make.

“They have to get players who they believe can help us, but at the same time can fit in with the squad and the club and are willing to play for the club and fight from the position we’re in. It’s a tough job for the manager to make those decisions.”

No surprise to see Robbo making the usual fighting statements in the press as a way of deflecting attention from the fact that he himself is nowehere need good enough to play at this level & is very lucky indeed to have kept his place in the side over the last month or so. A great player at Championship level but not up to it in the Premiership. I wonder what Cech has done wrong ? Given that he previously played at a high level, surely it can’t be that he isn’t thought good enough?

Please please please, we need tried and tested battlers to get us up the table, with premiership experience, or quality rookies in need of 1st team experience from the “big 4″, look what Kieran Richardson did for us last time.

    Good morning everyone!!!

I’ve been away for a couple of days, then had a severe case of man flu, which I’m surprised I made it through!!

I watched the match in Amsterdam on Saturday on Dutch TV, how rubbish were we?! It’s a good job I was so drunk!!

I actually agree with Robbo, we need people with backbone at the minute because when we went 1 down against Sunderland, everyone’s head went down and we practically threw the towel in!!

We need to get behind the team as this is when real fans prove their worth! It’s much easier supporting a team when they’re winning!!

Well Terry, I’ve been stupid enough to love the Albion for as long as I can remember, so the fact that we’re not doing well at the minute isn’t gonna change that for me!!

If we fluke a couple of wins, all of a sudden we’ll be on a roll, the team with momentum, and looking at the transfer window with great hope and anticipation won’t we?!

Forget Christmas, it’s 2 weeks until January and the real fun begins in the transfer window!!

Been reading through Bombers blog and some other Albion stories I’ve missed over the last few days. I can’t believe the amount of people wanting to see the back of TM!!

This bloke bought fresh life and a brand of football we haven’t seen at the Hawthorns for years, and now things aren’t going right for us you want to get rid?! Give him chance to prove himself, and I think he’s deserved the opprtunity to do so with the way he’s bought us up.

We still have to play the following teams at home (amongst others)
Man City; Spurs; Boro; Newcastle; Bolton; Stoke; Sunderland and Wigan!!

There’s 8 winnable home matches. If we add a couple of strikers and the ball winning midfielder we need in Jan we have more than enough opportunity to stay up.

Come on my disillusioned fellow Baggies let’s get behind the team and get some points on the board!!

Been reading Robbo`s comments. He can see it 20,000 fans can see it so why can`t TM see that we DESPERATELY need someone with some bottle. We don`t even have an obvious choice as captain. People have compared our recent football to the exciting days of Ron Atkinson, but in those days we had battlers( Robson Cantello, Robertson) as well as clever footballers.
