66 jobs going at Castings factory
Saturday 13th December 2008, 11:44AM GMT.
A Black Country supplier to the automotive industry is set to shed 66 jobs, according to a union official.
Castings PLC, which employs 400 at its Brownhills HQ, has announced it will make redundancies.
The announcement comes after the company, based in Lichfield Road, completed a 30-day consultation process with its unions.
Dave Corbett, GMB Works Convenor at Castings Ltd, said it was a blow to the workers at the company.
He said: “They have announced 66 redundancies. It’s due to the economic situation. Work’s on the downturn at the moment and doesn’t appear to be picking up any time soon.
“We are in talks with the company in an effort to save any more jobs.”
Last month David Gawthorpe, chief executive at Castings PLC, told the Express & Star that the firm was feeling the affects of a downturn in the car industry and the current economic climate. Bosses from Castings PLC were unavailable for comment.
