Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service played host for a week to two Caribbean fire officers.

The officers – one from Trinidad and Tobago and the other from Jamaica – were in the UK studying at the International Fire Service College in Gloucestershire. 

As part of their course they visited Staffordshire to find out more about the service’s retained service, vehicle management, fire safety and fire investigations. 

During their stay they met with the Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford, visited fire stations in Codsall, Rugeley, Stafford and Hanley and spent time in the risk reduction department, emergency response department and in fire control. Head of risk eduction Ian Sloss, who looked after the guests, said: “The officers came to Staffordshire as we were identified to them as a service leading the way in the areas they were interested in. 

“They thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the service, despite feeling the cold,” he added. 

“They are now looking forward to taking some of what they have learned back to the Caribbean, so they can put it into practice.”
