Robbo says sorry after JJB bust-up
Friday 5th December 2008, 12:18PM GMT.
Albion hardman Paul Robinson today apologised to the fans he rowed with at Wigan and admitted they were right to vent their anger.
The Baggies left-back argued angrily with a section of supporters at the end of the cruel 2-1 defeat at the JJB Stadium on Saturday.
But he says he has no hard feelings towards the fans, who were frustrated by his error that gifted the Latics their equaliser.
“It was just a bit of passion between players and fans that showed we all care,” said Robinson.
“They gave me a bit of abuse and I gave them a bit of abuse back. I don’t think there was any malice in it. They were disappointed because we had lost the game and I was disappointed because of the goal I gave Wigan.
“The fans have been brilliant all year and this was just a small group who vented their anger.
“And too right. They pay good money to come and watch us.
“Hopefully they will be there at the weekend getting right behind us and cheering us on.
“They have been fully supportive of us and getting behind the players. If I upset a few of those fans then I apologise, but that’s just me.
“I am passionate and I know they are passionate too. Let’s hope they are behind me on Saturday.”
Robinson’s poor header towards Scott Carson handed Henri Camara the Wigan equaliser before Emmerson Boyce headed the Latics’ winner.
The long-serving defender admitted he was angered by his own mistakes but insisted it is now behind him ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Portsmouth.
“It was a bad mistake by me and I hold my hands up,” he said. “I hate making mistakes. If I do it in training I end up kicking a post or kicking a player.”
