Keeper Murray tipped to return

training52.jpegMick McCarthy has assured Wolves fans that luckless keeper Matt Murray is already coming to terms with making a full recovery from his latest knee operation.

Murray underwent surgery to repair a ruptured patella tendon in his right knee last Friday, after picking up the injury on loan at Hereford.

The 27-year-old’s latest of a catalogue of serious injuries is likely to keep him out for a year.

But the new injury on his right knee, as opposed to his left one, which has just recovered from cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Boss McCarthy said: “He’s come through it fine. I spoke to him on Monday and he’s had the operation and he’s as you’d expect. He’s got to let things take their course.

“They’re all pleased with the way the operation went and he’ll be fine.”

Murray has been told to rest at home for a month and McCarthy admits the mental battle will be as hard as ever for the one-time England hopeful.

But the Molineux chief believes Murray is coming to terms with yet more long term disruption to his career.

The boss said: “I’ve spoken to him a couple of times since and he was upset about it. He’d been on a downer. But he’s a top sportsman and he realises that by moaning about it, he’s not going to make it any better.

“He sees the positives and has gone and had it done – now he’s going to crack on and get himself fit again. He can look towards the long term.

“I instantly took the positive out of it,  it’s not the leg that he had the cruciate operation on. So he’ll probably be on crutches for I don’t know how long and the leg he had the cruciate on will be as strong as an ox.

“Just like mine. I’ll be going around in circles when I get back on my bike! My right leg will be twice as strong as my left. It gives him chance to heal and he will be fine.”
