Jerome says Blues are team to beat

McCarthy’s side are six points clear at the top of the Championship, having gone into Saturday’s draw against Birmingham with more points (46) than any other team who have gone on to win the title after the same games since 2001.

Despite the statistics, Birmingham striker Cam-eron Jerome, who put Blues ahead at Molineux, believes Alex McLeish’s team are the side to beat.

“We’re the big fish in this league and teams want to show us what they can do,”said Jerome. “Most teams come out and want to beat us, Birmingham is a big scalp.

“Like when you play Manchester United and Chelsea, we’re like that in this division because we’ve just come down from the Premier League.

“We got at Wolves, other teams might be a bit wary of doing that.

“We looked at the video of their defence and noticed they were playing a bit flat and with a high line.

“There was a lot of space behind them and with my pace I’m always going to run away from them. That was the plan and it worked.”

Sheffield United defender Matthew Kilgallon, who was on the end of Wolves’ 3-1 victory last Tuesday, said: “If they are top and 10 points in front, we’ve nothing to fear.

“Even one of their strikers said to me when we were on the pitch when the second goal went in that we had them and that they were really worried.

“We were on top for 70 minutes and really looked good as we have against all the teams at the top ñ Reading, Birmingham and now Wolves. We’ve not deserved to lose in any of them.”
