Super Kev has Wolves in sights
Friday 28th November 2008, 12:38PM GMT.
Kevin Phillips has warned Wolves he has got his eyes on wreaking more derby havoc in the Molineux showdown.
Phillips was a regular thorn in Wolves’ side during his Black Country derby duties with Albion.
Although he returns in the blue of Birmingham City, nine goals in 18 Championship appearances for his new club shows he has lost none of the craft that has hurt Mick McCarthy’s men in the past couple of years.
The man Albion fans nicknamed ‘SuperKev’ said: “Wolves are one of those teams I’ve been lucky against. I can’t explain why, but I’ve always seemed to do well at Molineux and I always look forward to playing there.
“Wolves have good support, there’s always a good atmosphere and it’s a great place to go and play. It’s a big, open pitch and in my experience Wolves let you play.
“I expect the same and I think it could be a great game.”
The 35-year-old striker is likely to start among the substitutes if manager Alex McLeish goes for a five-man midfield, but Phillips reckons he is in prime form.
He said: “It’s nine goals in 11 League starts, that’s the way I look at it. It’s been frustrating not to make as many starts as I’d have liked, but I respect the manager’s decisions.”
One plaudit came from Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, who reckons Phillips is the ultimate role model for his strikers.
The Molineux manager said: “If you can aspire to be like anyone you want, you wouldn’t go far wrong to be like Kevin Phillips.
“I worked with him at Sunderland after he won the Golden Boot and he’s a top professional who trains hard. He really looks after himself.
“He’s Birmingham’s top scorer and he’s only had a few starts. That tells you all you need to know about him.”

Lets turn this on its head for a change, why is it always what we have to look out for, so, it’s not us that have got to look out for KP, its KP that will have to look out for our defenders.
can’t wait to get there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wolves have three of the top scorers in the division this year on SEB, Chris and Kites. I think Blues might have more to worry about than us!
You can’t underestimate the threat from KP, but for once we have more armoury than the opposition in a local derby!

YEAH BRING THE OLD GUY ON TO POSSIBLY SCORE THEM A CONSOLATION GOAL.
OH HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED..EVEN IN HIS PRIME PHILLIPS COULD ONLY DREAM OF BEING MENTIONED IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS SEB OR BIG CHRIS.
THIS WOLVES TEAM IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PROPOSITION TO ANY YOU FACED WITH ALBION..AND THIS TIME YOU’LL BE ON THE RECIEVING END.
LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

he will run collins off the park with his footballing brain! has to be Mancienne who starts as he will use pace to get himself out of trouble. Wouldnt suprise me if stearman went through phillips and puts him out of the game!!!

5.
woh woh, im a Wolves fan and im expecting us to beat the blues tomorrow, and think our partnership up front is the best in the league, but to say Phillips even in his prime (european golden boot winner) couldnt be mentioned in the same breath as SEB (only 22, and has only been making headlines in the past 2 years) or Iwelumo (rather nomadic before Wolves, has never played at the top despite being 30 and has said himself has never been in this kind of form before, which his record can vouch for) is just ridiculous!
I think SEB will be a good premiership striker one day, and Iwelumo is in phenominal form, but to say that is a bit daft dont you think?

Phillips is twice the striker SEB or Chris will ever be!!!! Legend……..

I cant believe the albion fans still talk him up. He left there club for more money after they were promoted. He hardly loved Albion they were just someone willing to pay him after he didnt cut it at villa. Soon left you for more money!

let them worry about us, every match in this division is tough and so it should be.
Its another match another three points to go for, win lose or draw we will still be top of the leagues and all to play for even if we lose.
If we lose lets go for another 7 wins on the trot.
WE ARE WOLVES AND WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE!!!!

We need to keep him quiet, super finisher and has done it for years.
However as mentioned we have not had the midfield and strikers that we have now for a good few seasons, so let them be worried about them.
