Hennessey recall for Blues clash

Friday 28th November 2008, 11:30AM GMT.

Goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has won a recall to the Wolves starting line-up for the Championship summit showdown with Birmingham.

Carl Ikeme’s bruised hip and gashed shin has ruled out the Castle Bromwich-born shot-stopper for the first versus second clash, leaving Cheltenham keeper Shane Higgs – signed on a month’s loan – on the bench.

Ikeme’s absence leaves Hennessey to return from the start for the first time in 11 games, since Reading at home on September 30, as they chase a club record equalling eighth successive win.

Wolves are boosted by the return of Michael Mancienne, after the on-loan Chelsea defender missed the last two games with flu.

Manager Mick McCarthy also has broken nose victim Michael Kightly and Dave Edwards fit, while fellow midfielder Dave Jones should also pass a fitness test on his calf.

But it’s the return from the start of Hennessey, who came off the bench against Sheffield United on Tuesday, that will provide one of the talking points.

McCarthy confirmed: “Unfortunately, Carl is injured and he’ll miss out.”

The Wolves boss expects Hennessey to grab his chance.

McCarthy added: “In terms of his training, he’s coped well. He’s been upset, disappointed and hurt that he lost his place. I wouldn’t have had it any other way, but he’s knuckled down.”

not really bothered about Hennessey, was more concerned with Mancienne and Kightly. So great news to have them two both back. We need our strongest team for this one. Mancienne MUST start with Stearman. End of.

Singh Wolf, you may not have noticed but we just won 7 straight, Ikeme was first choice, hes a first team player and was looking pretty solid in my view.
That said, Wayne is class and wont let us down tomorrow.

Biggest game of the season tomorrow, I’m happy to see that we will be close to full strength.
While I rate Ikeme over Hennessy I can’t say that the prospect of Hennessy starting worries me in the least.

On another note, Mark Davies has gone on loan to Leicester. Finally the lad is fit enough to get a bit of match time in. I’m sure everyone will join me in wishing him luck and success. If he can finally put the injuries behind him and regain match sharpness, then we’ll have potentially the best midfielder in the Championship for the second half of the season!

Sorry to hear about Stears talking about accepting a loss against the Blues.. I’d rather be more positive and talk about us giving them a bloody good thrashing than accepting a possible loss.

Hens a a bloody good keeper, glad to see him back and really hope we don’t lose him as we will need his quality if we go up.

Let’s hope the defence is on song tomorrow. The good news is we have goals in the team in a few positions, which is great!

There are some idiots on here. for starters Mick does not build a team of 20 year olds to get rid if and when we go up. Secondly, yes we will need pure quality coming in not quantity.Last point i know what you are saying Stears, believe me i want 3 points tomorrow as well.

Lets not talk about when we are up, lets concentrate on this season and take one game at a time, blues, tough match, but wolves should learn from the mistakes against reading, lets not have a gung ho attitude, let our pace up front trouble their back four, game will be won/loss in midfield

    21) Get off this page you clown. Obviously an Albion fan and if not your sort have no clue about football and are not wanted down the Wolves.
Of our current team there are many good enough for the Premiership – the goalkeepers, Stearman, Foley, Elokobi, Jarvis, Kites, Jones, Ebanks-Blake and possibly Henry.

Believe you me I dislike the Noses, the Vile and the Tesco’s but what Stears says is perfectly acceptable in my world. It is not going to happen but all he is saying is that he would take a defeat tomorrow if we went defeated thereonafter. On that basis we would go up automatically. That is the aim is it not?
Anyway Ebanks-Blake, Kites and Iwelumo for a 3-1 win!

Great news about the outfied players being available. Wayne is quality and will want to keep his place for the rest of the season. Will seem wierd wanting Leicester to do well (at least while Davis is there..)! We owe the Blues from the last time they visited. I just hope that we arn’t too tired from Tuesday night (hopefullf we’ll be a few up with 15 mins to go).
